Job Description
Big Data Architect
We are seeking a senior level Big Data Architect to work in a team focused on de
signing and implementing big data insights and data products on Move websites an
d mobile applications. The successful candidate will be skilled in the collectio
n of massive volumes of data, implementing data science algorithms into producti
on services and developing the data integration flows into different systems.

Our ideal candidate is someone with a passion for building data pipelines and a
hacker at heart.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead architecture/design, technology selection and implementation of a data plat

form over Big Data for delivering data science powered data products on realtor.
com
Define technical requirements, technical and data architecture for big data proc
essing and building highly available and scalable services to personalize experi
ence for millions of users on realtor.com website and mobile platforms
Implement data processing in a variety of ways; including map reduce, pig and hi
ve scripts, hadoop streaming, scala, spark, and cascading/scalding jobs
Design, implement and deploy custom cloud based applications using AWS infrastru
cture and services
Performance tuning of a EMR/NoSQL environments
Ability to drive technical discussions and implementation decision process
Provide technical mentorship for junior engineers on new technologies and develo
pment techniques
Effectively work with our data science team on development of data products and

transition machine learning algorithms to production applications

Review the deliverables throughout development to ensure quality to requirements
and adherence to all quality management plans and standards
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a data-related field. Advanced degree i

n Computer Science, Information Systems preferred
Minimum 8 years experience with 3+ years as big data architect on large datasets
using distributed computing tools (Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, etc.)
Demonstrated expertise with software architecture & design, data structures and
algorithms
Demonstrated expertise designing and coding high performance big data applicatio
ns and services
Experience with NoSQL KV stores like redis, spark, HDFS, Mongo DB
Experience in big data databases like hbase or Cassandra
Experience with Hadoop ecosystem or big data programming experience required
Experience in JVM languages (java, scala, clojure) and scripting languages like
python and ruby
Experience developing REST web services
Experience building and deploying on cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. Amazon
Web Services EC2, Elastic Map Reduce)
Significant skill in source data discovery
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Quick learner, eager to leverage new technologies in a dynamic team environment
Able to balance and prioritize multiple concurrent projects effectively

data product team, you will be responsible for the ideation, research, predicti
ve modeling, and machine learning algorithms for data products to delight and in

or for the junior data scientists on the team and provide oversight on their ind

Responsibilities:

Perform exploratory analysis on Move s wealth of data including consumer web and m
obile behavior and North America s most comprehensive listing and properties data
set.
Effectively partner with product management and the data product team on buildin
g new data driven features for personalization, targeting, recommendations, and
market insights for a great consumer experience
Drive A/B, multivariate tests and design of experiments to facilitate testing of
new product and design features, with focus on improving engagement, retention,
and conversion.
Select, apply, and tune a diverse set of tools to coherently solve challenging b
usiness goals
Create automated learning systems that gracefully scale to increasing complexity
and expectation
Develop predictive, explanatory models and machine learning algorithms
Generate descriptive visualizations and presentations to communicate insights
Mentor a team of data scientists on data exploration, machine learning and deve
loping data based products
Work with a sense of ownership and urgency, advocate for experimentation based,
agile culture.
Requirements:

MS or PhD in statistics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative analysis, e

conomics or related field is required.
7+ years of relevant experience in data science, data analytics, or applied stat
istics,

5+ years experience with machine learning, data mining, statistical modeling too
ls and underlying algorithms
5+ years experience in R, Perl, Python, spark, or other languages and frameworks
appropriate for large scale analysis of numerical and textual data
Working experience with relational databases and SQL
Experience with experiment design and A/B and multivariate tests
Experience and proven track record developing data products for internet industr
y
Strong creative thinking and problem solving skills
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
