Standard 5.b: Professional Development, Partnerships and Advocacy;
Principle #9 Reflective Practitioner, Continued Professional Growth; Principle #10 Fostering Collaborative Relationships to Support Student Learning The artifact I have chosen for standard 5.b, professional growth is my resume. My resume reflects all the years I have been working professionally as a teacher. I graduated from City College with a bachelor degree in Childhood Education in 2012 and a Bilingual Extension in 2014. As soon as I graduated, I was fortunate to find a job as a leadteacher for a Pre-K classroom. This was an amazing first teaching setting because I was able to work with a small group of ten students. I also had an experienced director, who was a teacher for fifteen years in the public school system. She was very dedicated in helping me plan daily for each of my students needs and gave me multiple opportunities to observe other teachers teach at the school. Before I graduated City College, I was placed in C.S. 200 Public School as a student teacher in 1st grade and 5th grade. Throughout, the semester I was able to assist and learn how to grade papers (learn the mathematics), develop lesson plans and implement them, work in small groups that focused in an academic area, observed student growth, and learned about different teaching methods.
Lastly, in 2014 I received my Bilingual Extension from Lehman
College. This opened the opportunity for me to become the second grade dual language teacher at P.S. 96, where Im currently still at. In these three years as a second grade dual language teacher I have grown professionally in many different ways. Some of these ways are, differentiating instruction, aligning lesson plans to the common core standards, creating rigorous student work, etc. Im still working hard in growing professionally. Im looking forward to complete my tenure this year and join the National Board Certification next school year. I believe joining the Nation Board Certification will help me gain additional knowledge and techniques on how to reach each domain from the framework, in which teachers are graded from.
