System Replication

System Replication is the process of setting up a new PC-PRO+ Advanced system on another PC using the same system defaults and options as the original system. You can also use the System Replication feature to set up an optional Shop-Pro client system or Field-Pro client system.

The System Manager application facilitates the process of setting up a new system by creating a replica file which can be loaded to the new system to set up system defaults and options and copy device program files to the new system.

Creating a Replica File

Follow the steps below to create a replica file.

1. Close all PC-PRO+ Advanced applications. For example, close the Program Editor, TOU Calendar Editor, Display Editor, Schedule Editor, and Protocol Editor.

2. Open the System Manager (Programs | PC-PRO+ Advanced | System Manager). Select the Replica File Settings.

3. Define and save the system settings you want to include in the replica file (at least one setting). For example, define system default values, DST dates, programming options, and so forth.

4. Select File | Create Replica File or click the button on the System Manager Toolbar. The Create Replica File dialog is displayed.

Navigate to the folder where you want to store the replica file, enter a name for the replica file, and click Save. A progress indicator is displayed and the file is saved with the default file name extension .REPLICA. A results dialog is displayed.

System Replication

Creating and Loading Replica Files Using the Command Line

Creating Replica Files

Replica Files can be created using a command prompt (Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt). This allows replica files to be created and distributed via user created scripts to automate their meter program distribution processes.

"System Manager.exe" -create "C:\Path\ReplicaName.replica"

Notes:

-create tells it to create a Replica file

The second parameter is a fully qualified path including the name of the new replica file.

The "System Manager.exe" is located in the following directory by default:

C:\Program Files\Itron\PC-PRO+ Advanced\PCPROP)

Loading Replica Files

Replica Files can be loaded automatically at a command prompt (Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt).

1. Go to the c:\Program Files\Common Files\Itron\Metering\LoadReplica directory.

2. Type the following in order to load the replica file (be sure to include the quote around "Load Replica File" as it is the name of the executable):

"Load Replica File" <Full path to Replica File>\Replica Name.Replica
