SPELLBOUND is a word game for 2 to 6 players.

The play consists of forming words, using the cards

with various score values. Each player competes for

high score by using his cords in combinations that

take best advantage of letter values. The combined

total score for a game may range from 100 points

to 300 points, depending on the skill of the players.

S TA RT o r O A M B :

Decks of cards are placed face down In the center

of the table. Players cut for deal. The one cutting
the letter nearest the beginning of the alphabet deals.

Each player is then dealt ten cards which are held

in his hand.
T H E P L AY:

1. The player to the left of the dealer starts by com

bining two or more of his cards to form q word
and places them on the table face up.

2. A player completes his turn by forming or modify

ing one word then counting and announcing his
score for the turn. This amount is then recorded
in his score column. Player then draws as many
new cords ds he has played, thus always keeping
10 cards in his hand.

3. Play passes to the left. The second player, and

then each in turn, forms a new word or adds one
or more letters to those already played so as to
form new words. All cards played must form one

complete word. The player gets full credit for any

word formed or modified by his play.

EXAMPLE: If John has the word RUG on the table,

Mary may modify John's word by using the letters
"D" and "S" to form the word DRUGS.

4. Once a word is played it may not be recon

structed to form another word by re-arranging
the letters.

5. The two cords marked SPELLBOUND may be

used as any letter desired. When playing a SPELL
BOUND card, the player must state what letter
it represents, after which it cannot be changed
during that game. When a SPELLBOUND card

is played a player may take it by replacing the

letter it represents from his hand. He does so
during his turn before he melds.

6. Any player may use his turn to replace any or

all of the cards in his hand. He does so by placing

them face down in the deck, then drawing the

same number of new cards. He then awaits his
next turn to play.

7. A player unable or not wishing to make a play

at his turn may pass.

8. Any wards found in a standard dictionary are

permitted except those capitalized, those desig

nated as foreign words, abbreviations and words

requiring apostrophes or hyphens. Players con

sult a dictionary only to check spelling or usage.

Any word may be challenged before the next
player starts his turn. If the word challenged is
unacceptable, the player takes back his cards
and loses his turn.

9. Play continues until all cards have been drawn

or one of the players has used all of the cards

in his hand or until all possible ploys have been

made.
