Product Overview

BETACARE 200 hand cleaner is a colorless liquid with a characteristic odor. The active
1
ingredient is propylene carbonate, which is present at less than 10%. For further details, see
Product Description.
This product is distributed within the automotive aftermarket industry in Europe as a handcleaning solution. For further details, see Product Uses.
BETACARE 200 hand cleaner is distributed to automotive aftermarket industry professionals
only. Consumer exposure is unlikely. For further details, see Exposure Potential.
Eye contact may cause slight temporary irritation. Brief skin contact is practically nonirritating.
Prolonged skin contact is unlikely to result in irritation or absorption of harmful amounts. At
room temperature, inhalation exposure is minimal due to low volatility; a single exposure is
2,3
unlikely to be hazardous. For further details, see Health Information.
Propylene carbonate, the active ingredient in BETACARE 200 hand cleaner, is readily
biodegradable, unlikely to accumulate in the food chain (low bioconcentration potential), and
4,5
is practically non-toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. For further details, see Environmental
Information.
BETACARE 200 hand cleaner is stable under recommended storage and use conditions, but
can decompose at elevated temperatures. Avoid contact with acids, bases, oxidizers, and
6
reducing agents. For further details, see Physical Hazard Information.

Product Uses
BETACARE 200 hand cleaner is distributed in small tubes within the automotive aftermarket
industry in Europe as a hand-cleaning solution.

Exposure Potential9,10,11
BETACARE 200 hand cleaner is distributed only to automotive aftermarket industry
professionals. Consumer exposure is unlikely. Based on the uses for this product, the public
could be exposed through:
Workplace exposure Exposure can occur either in facilities that manufacture or use
BETACARE 200 hand cleaner. The intended use of the product is to clean hands so
exposure will occur when the product is applied to hands . See Health Information.
Consumer exposure to BETACARE 200 hand cleaner This product is not distributed to
the general public, so consumer exposure is unlikely. See Health Information.
Environmental releases Small quantities may be released into the environment if this
product is discarded. Propylene carbonate is very soluble in water, and when introduced, will
have a tendency to remain in water. Because the compound is readily biodegradable, it will
be removed from water and soil environments, including sewage treatment plants. In the
event of a spill, the focus is on containing the spill to prevent contamination of soil and
surface or ground water. Small spills can be absorbed with sand. See Environmental, Health,
and Physical Hazard Information.
Large release Industrial spills or releases are infrequent and generally contained. If a large
spill does occur, the material should be captured, collected, and reprocessed or disposed of
according to applicable governmental requirements. See Environmental, Health, and Physical
Hazard Information.
In case of fire Deny any unnecessary entry into the area and consider the use of
unmanned hose holders. Use water spray or fog, carbon-dioxide or dry-chemical
extinguishers, or foam to fight the fire. Use of a direct water stream or foam may cause
frothing. Firefighters should wear positive-pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus
(SCBA) and protective firefighting clothing. Follow emergency procedures carefully. See
Environmental, Health, and Physical Hazard Information.
For more information, see the relevant Safety Data Sheet.

Health Information12,13,14
Eye contact Contact may cause slight temporary eye irritation.
Skin contact Brief contact is practically nonirritating. Prolonged contact is unlikely to result in
irritation or absorption of harmful amounts.
Inhalation At room temperature, exposure to vapor is minimal due to low volatility. With good
ventilation, a single exposure is unlikely to be hazardous.
Ingestion Low toxicity if ingested in small amounts. Small amounts swallowed incidental to
normal handling operations are unlikely to cause injury; however swallowing larger amounts may
cause injury.
Repeated exposure Repeated exposure has been reported to affect the lungs of laboratory
animals.
Other Animal studies have demonstrated that the active ingredient is not toxic to the fetus and
did not cause birth defects. If handled in accordance with proper industrial procedures, exposure
should not pose a carcinogenic risk. Cellulose, an inert ingredient in the hand cleaner, has been
shown to interfere with fertility and reproduction.
For more information, see the relevant Safety Data Sheet.

Environmental Information15,16,17
Propylene carbonate, the active ingredient in BETACARE 200 hand cleaner, has low volatility,
and may slowly evaporate from products containing it. The substance is very soluble in water,
and when introduced, will have the tendency to remain in water. It has minimal tendency to bind
to soil or sediment.
Propylene carbonate is unlikely to persist in the environment. The substance is readily
biodegradable, which suggests the chemical will be removed from water and soil environments,
including biological wastewater treatment plants.
Propylene carbonate is not likely to accumulate in the food chain (bioconcentration potential is
low) and is practically non-toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms on an acute basis.
For more information, see the relevant Safety Data Sheet.
