Democracies are now moving towards nationalism and regionalism.

India should
understand that now foreign policy cannot work only on free flow of goods and people as
democracies are moving towards Deglobalisation and Brexit is the best example. The
addressing of press conferences by Mr. Trump regarding, Immigration and Job issues,
and other Geopolitical issue like, pivot to china, and reassessment of Obamas foreign
and defence policy are clear indications and messages for India to re calibrate its foreign
policy and bilateral strategic relation with US.
1. Trade tariff - Trump is a businessman and his logic and reasoning will be based on
give and take policy which can be positive as well as a negative aspect for India
2. IT sector - the IT sectors will be affected by the trump policy in a negative way as he
wants to bring back all the jobs to USA so outsourcing jobs like BPO ((which
compromises of 51% in India) will be affected.
3. NSG BID-India has great interest in becoming part of NSG group so that it could
enrich the overall benefit of processed fuel for domestic purpose parallel relying on
international environment protocols.
4. INDIAN DIASPORA-regarding h1b visa for IT professional which is a major concern
for Indian government and businessmen. -The issue of H-1B visas will have an
adverse impact because of native politics so far, Trumps approach regarding this is
yet to be unveiled, but his saying that Skills will be rewarded is a relaxation to India.
Further positive impact is related to pharmaceuticals & generic medicines,
entrepreneurship, student visa, laissez-faire attitude of Republicans, Trump's hard
stance on terrorism could also result into deeper Indo-US defence and strategic ties.
5. TERRORISM-As trump is staunch opponent of terrorism, and it is clear from how he
made a perfect balance between India and Pak relation vis-a-vis its own commercial
policies as its greatest GDP comes through arms trade.
6. Defence-So far, less than expected progress has been made in the area of defence
manufacturing under the so-called Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI).
During Obamas visit to India, four pathfinder projects under the DTTI rubric
involving relatively minor technologies was announced. Contacts between the two
sides under this U.S. initiative will continue. Two other projects of note, one on
aircraft carrier technology and the other on jet engine technology, coal gasification
technologies, and the issuance of a non FTA country waiver in order for India to gain
access to U.S. fossil fuel reserves
INVESTMENT-progress in bilateral economic relations between the two countries has been
mixed. U.S. businesses remain reluctant to invest in India because of their beliefs that the
Indian government has not yet delivered on promises of ease doing business in India
including taxation issues, and implement general economic reforms in the country.

Ways Ahead: Agricultural technology, the civil aviation sector, life sciences, infrastructure
financing, and green financing, focus on exporting synergies in the biotech and
pharmaceutical sectors, and find means to support university and other skill development
exchanges.
