3. Measure the area between the top of the doors opening to the
ceiling; this measurement, called head room, determines
whether or not a garage door has adequate space to store in
the up position. At least 4" is required, and 12" is the
minimum amount of space necessary for a standard residential
installation.
4. Measure the distance between back and front walls of the
garage. Door height plus 18" is required to correctly raise a
garage door. If obstructions exist within the travel path of a
door moving upward, relocation of the obstructions will be
necessary to allow the door to properly rest in the up position.
Special modifications may be available to accommodate odd
dimensions; take great care in making these measurements so
your needs can be accurately determined.
