V. Use PERFECT TENSES (PRESENT PERFECT, and FUTURE PERFECT) to write

about your experiences with orphan children (200 words).

6TA20162DUED

A lot happens within our environment. It may be hard to believe but yet true that
the life orphan children live is of big challenge. These children suffer a lot, to the
extent of missing out schooling because no one is willing to pay their school
dues. What is more hurting is that even the little the parents leave for their
children, the relatives (uncles and aunties) start sharing them among
themselves in equal ratios. Children are exposed to child labor; young girls are
forced to get in marriages, taken like they are not humans, which make them
live unhappy.
In your own way, just imagine a situation where you can pass through a day
with nothing for your stomach. This is what the orphan child experiences as
most of them take days only getting one meal a day and at times move out with
totally nothing to eat. They are expected to work a lot throughout the day,
mistreated and at the end of the day when time for sharing benefits comes they
are considered last. This result into poor performance at school, most of them
end up dropping out of school. Others decide to leave home and go to streets
thus become street kids whereas some end up losing their lives for they feel no
body is there to stand on their side for support, hence yielding a negative feeling
in the life of orphans regretting as to why they were born.

VII. Write a text about the topic you like most in psychology. Use MODALS,
CONJUNCTIONS and PHRASAL VERBS.

RESILENCE

The resilence is that ineffable quality that allows some people to be knocked
down by life and come back stronger than ever. Rather than letting failure
overcome them and drain their resolve, they find a way to rise from the
8TA20162DUED

ashes. Psychologists have identified some of the factors that make someone
resilient, among them a positive attitude, optimism, the ability to regulate
emotions, and the ability to see failure as a form of helpful feedback. Even after
misfortune, resilient people are blessed with such an outlook that they are able
to change course and soldier on.
The resilence is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma,
tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress, such as family and relationship
problems, serious health problems or workplace and financial stressors. It
means "bouncing back" from difficult experiences.
Research has shown that resilience is ordinary, not extraordinary. People
commonly demonstrate resilience. One example is the response of many
Americans to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and individuals' efforts to
rebuild their lives.
Being resilient does not mean that a person doesn't experience difficulty or
distress. Emotional pain and sadness are common in people who have suffered
major adversity or trauma in their lives. In fact, the road to resilience is likely to
involve considerable emotional distress.
Resilience is not a trait that people either have or do not have. It involves
behaviors, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed in anyone.

Social psychologists cannot rely on common sense because they must base
their conclusions on evidence that is achieved through careful and deliberate
study. In these studies, social psychologists form theories that predict behavior
before it occurs. Avoiding relying on common sense helps researchers, while
psychology is the study of an individual's behavior, and sociology is the study of
cultural behaviors, social psychology combines the two. Social psychology
approaches discussing individual behaviors within the context of the individuals
environment and culture, as well as many other factors. Concepts that are
10TA20162DUED

integral to the study of social psychology include social perception, social

influence, and social interaction.
Social psychology is the scientific study of how people's thoughts, feelings, and
behaviors are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others.
The terms thoughts, feelings, and behaviors include all of the psychological
variables that are measurable in a human being. The reference to imagined or
implied others suggests that we are prone to social influence even when no
other people are present, such as when watching television, or following
internalized cultural norms.
