Pronouns

A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.

example: John is a mail carrier. John carries a blue bag.
To make the second sentence sound better, you can change
the word John to he.
new sentence: John is a mail carrier. He carries a blue bag.
The word he is a pronoun that takes the place of the word John.
Some common pronouns include:
I, you, he, she, it, we, they, you, him, her, them, it, us
Rewrite each sentence. Change the underlined word or words
to a pronoun.

Pronouns
Possessive pronouns are used to show that something or
someone belongs to someone else.
example: Tim bought a new laptop computer.
The computer is his.
The possessive pronoun his is referring to a laptop computer that
belongs to Tim.
Use a possessive pronoun from the box below to complete each

Pronouns I and Me
The word I is used in the subject of a sentence. The word me is used in
the predicate of the sentence.
examples: Kim and I walked to the deli.
The pronoun I is used because it falls in the subject of
the sentence.
Kim went to the deli with me.
The pronoun me is used because it falls in the predicate
of the sentence.
Write I or me on the blank line for each sentence.

Singular and Plural Pronouns

A singular pronoun takes the place of a singular noun.
The girl went to the store.
Girl is a singular noun.
She went to the store.
The pronoun she takes the place of the noun, girl.
She is a singular pronoun.
A plural pronoun takes the place of a plural noun or more than one
noun.
The cats played with the yarn.
Cats is a plural noun.
They played with the yarn.
The pronoun they takes the place of the noun cats.
They is a plural pronoun.

These, Those, This, and That

These and those are plural words. They refer to more than one
thing.
example: These flowers are pretty.
The word these refers to more than one flower.
This and that are singular words. They refer to only one thing.
example: That plant needs water.
The pronoun that refers to only one plant.
