Israel was pre-conditioned by God to expect the supernatural as an indication of
Gods presence.
I. God gave Israel a sign the Lord Himself will give you a sign.
A. King Ahaz needed to know that God would protect Judah from her enemies.
1. To confirm this prophecy God invited Ahaz to ask for a sign (v. 1011).
2. Like some other OT prophecies, this one had two fulfillments.
B. God wants us to know certain things...thats why we have the Bible. The
central message is expressed in John 3:16.
II. God gave Israel a Son Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a
Son.
A. The birth of Jesus was miraculous; Mary was a virgin when Jesus was born.
The virgin birth was actually predicted right from the very
beginning (Genesis 3:15).
B. The virgin birth is an important doctrine; it serves as a sign of ones
beliefs. Some people deny that God does signs.
True Christians will be known by their firm belief that the Bible is
the true and infallible Word of God.
III. God gave Israel Himself shall call His name Immanuel.
A. Hebrew names were way of expressing their faith.
The name Immanuel was meant to prepare them for God coming to
live in their midst.
B. The Great Commission ends with this promise: lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.
