B. Acceptance criteria
The use of the recognized types of piles for building works shall
comply with the Buildings Ordinance and subsidiary regulations
and the requirements of relevant Practice Notes for Authorized
Persons and Registered Structural Engineers and Practice Notes
for Registered Contractors.
The structural details and calculations for the piling plans shall be
prepared and signed by a Registered Structural Engineer who
shall also supervise the installation of the piles.
The Registered Structural Engineer shall consider the applicability
of the proposed piling system to a building site according to the
ground conditions and environs.
The foundation capacity of the pile shall be determined by
recognized foundation engineering principles with an adequate
factor of safety appropriate to the type of pile, taking into account
the nature of ground and probable differential and total settlement
effects.
Buildings Department may impose requirements on test
installation, proof tests and quality assurance on materials and
workmanship when giving approval to the piling plans.
