Thank you for your thorough and useful explanation. Your is the only technical
support voice that provides a complete and workable solution. Even if messing with
the Registry is not for regular non-techies, this is still doable for most folks who can
get their hands a little dirty with Windows innards. My only concern is that you
assume everyone knows how to add a few lines to the Registry without--possibly-turning the computer into a paperweight. More detailed steps would be appreciated.

That's why I have the ready-to-use reg files. :) I have a 'how to' published on
one of my sites, will find it and link to the pages with reg edits.

I have similar problem on the iPhone, however, it is difficult to ascertain which

account is in focus. When starting the e-mail, the correct sender is shown, however,
on sending it changes to the other profile "on random". It seems to disregard the
default account settings. Unfortunately, there is no registry to edit?

Sorry, I don't know what could be wrong on the phone side. Is the other
profile the default account? Are you using the Outlook for iOS app or the
native apple app?

By the way, I like the one to make it always ask which account to use. Too bad that
one doesn't work for replies and forwards either!

do you always want to use one account or will you be choosing the account?
If you always want to use one account and use imap or pop3, you can
configure a different smtp server while keeping the original pop3 - the
instructions are here - http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/config/create-receivepop3-account/

Diane you pointed me to this page from another post and I tried your fix. It does
make it use the default account as desired, this is helpful thanks. Note that it does
not present all the day/date flags, I only get the option to flag the message for
tomorrow. Also is there a way to force the default account if replying or forwarding?
The fix doesn't make the default account be used. I still can't figure out how MS can
give you an option to only use the default account, yet you still have to do all this

That is normal for IMAP or EAS accounts. They only support flag on/ flag off.
Replies & forwards always use the account they came in on. If all replies will
use the default account, you can change the smtp server settings.

Have a different issue. Have been working with multiple imap accounts in Outlook
2013 with no issues. Then I had to add an MS exchange account, and that seems
to have changed everything. If forced the exchange account to become the default
account, instead of the primary imap account. This also seems to have caused my
default calendar, (for this computer only), to disappear, and now places my
appointments on the exchange calendar. I do not want this as the exchange
account is not my primary account, nor do I want others seeing my appointments,
etc. When I try to Read more

Yeah, exchange always likes to be the default account. You can set other
data files as default - see http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/changethe-default-data-file-from-exchange-to-another-account/ for the steps to get
past the error.
I don't recommend using the 'this computer only folders' (they don't get
backed up), use a pst if you don't want to use the exchange folders. But,
FWIW, no one will see your appointments if you don't share the exchange
calendar - if you need to share it, you can mark appointments private.
