Gary Young developed the Neuro Auricular ‘Technique, NAT, which integrates the use of thera- peutic-grade essential oils with acupressure by using a small, pen-shaped instrument with a rounded end to apply the oils to the acupressure meridians or Vita Flex points on the cars. He discovered that using essential oils in conjunction ‘with acupressure was extremely beneficial. Interestingly, he found that acupressure stimulation on specific neurological points with the essential oils evoked a quicker response to specific conditions. The combination of acupressure with essential oils seemed to substantially increase benefits in targeted areas. “The Neuro Auricular Technique has shown remarkable benefits in both the emotional and physical realm, When Emotional Ear Chart Self Pity Rejection Vision Heart — Open Ts working on a physical need, an emotional release is often experienced that can bring about a positive atieude of hope and renewed vitality. In relationship to the spine and dealing with neuro- logical problems that exist because of spinal cord injury, the Neuro Auricular Technique has been extremely ben- ficial in delivering the oils to the exact location of the neurological damage. ‘The Neuro Auricular Technique is a program that Gary continues to research, develop, and teach worldwide to doctors and other health practitioners. Ie has proven to have tremendous results and has the potential to be a well-known modality inthe fucure. It is a very important technique that can facilitate the relief of pain and suffering quickly as well as improving physical and emotional well-being. Ithelps identify different structural and health needs of the body and together with the Raindrop Technique increases the opportunity for healing and rejuvenation. Vita Flex isa specialized form of hand and foot massage that is exceptionally effective in delivering the benefits ‘of essential oils throughout the body. Ic is said to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago and was perfected in the 1960s by Stanley Burroughs long before acupuncture was popular in Western medicine. It is based on a complete network of reflex points that stimulate all the internal body systems. When the fingertips connect to specific reflex points with «essential oils using the special Vita Flex application, an clectrical charge is released that sends energy through the neuroelectrical pathways. This electrical charge follows the pathways of the nervous system to where there isa break in the electrical circuit, usually related to an energy block caused by toxins, damaged tissues, or loss of oxygen. “There are more than 1,500 Vita Flex points through- ‘out the body in comparison to only 365 acupuncture points used in reflexology. Vita Flexis similar to but dif ferent from reflexology. As itis used today, reflexology has a tendency to ground out the electrical charge from constant compression and rotation pressure that causes cell separation and loss of oxygen to subdermal tissues, causing further injury In contrast to the steady stimulation of reflexology, Vita Flex uses a rolling and releasing motion that involves placing the fingers flat on the skin, rolling up onto the fingertips, and continuing over onto the fingernails, using medium pressure, and then sliding the hand forward about % inch, continually repeating this rolling and releasing technique until che specific Vita Flex area is covered. This rolling motion is repeated over the area three times, Vita Flex corrects weakened or injured areas through the electrical reflex points, preventing further injury and less stress and allowing for quicker, more eff healing. Combining the electrical frequency of the oils and that of the person receiving the application creates rapid and phenomenal results. This ancient technique has brought healing of a greater dimension to our modern world with its complete, scientific, workable system of controls that releases the unlimited healing power within the human body. ‘The diagram of the nervous system shows the points con the spine and their electrical connection to specific areas throughout the entire body. Vita Flex on the Hands ‘The hands also have specific reflex points that correspond to different organs and systems of the body. Although the hands are smaller and perhaps not as comfortable to work on, if you are in a hurry or are tunable co get o the feet, there are still definite benefits in using the Vita Flex technique on the hands. v5.0 | © Copyignt 2011 Fitth Edition | Ee lal Olls Desk Ret Essential Oils Desk Reference | Filth Edition Vita Flex Foot Chart outside of foot men's + women's reproductive organs 3.8 | Chapter 16 | Techniques for Essential Ol! Anyone who has experienced Raindrop ‘Technique is very quick to get on the massage table again to enjoy and discover new benefits of this most remarkable application of essential ols Raindrop Technique is one of the safest, non-inva- sive regimens available for spinal health. It is also an in- valuable method to promote healing from within using ‘opically applied essential oils. The Development of the Raindrop Technique D, Gary Young developed the Raindrop Technique based on his research of essential oils and their antimicrobial properties, his knowledge of the Vita Flex technique and its reflex points on the feet, and fascinating information on the light stroking called effleurage and its effect on the muscles and the nervous system, Lakota Indians While visting with the Lakota people, Gary learned that for several generations before the U.S/Canadian border was established, the Lakota Indians migrated across the Canadian border into the northern regions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. There, they often ‘witnessed the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. ‘Those who were ill or had complicated health problems would stand facing the Aurora Borealis, hold their hands toward the lights, and inhale deeply “The Lakota believed chat when the Aurora Borealis was visible, the air was charged with healing energy. They would mentally “inhale” this energy, allowing it to pass through their spine and on to other afflicted areas of the body through neurological pathways. Many experienced dramatic healing effects through this practice. Eventually, after the border divided the U.S. from ‘Canada, making migrations to the north impossible, the Lakota began practicing this energy process mentally coupled with light stcoking to facilitate the spreading of energy through the body. Effleurage Gary has said that he does not know if this is where the effleurage he teaches (feathered finger-sttoking) first originated, but it has become associated with this healing technique. Its believed that the Lakota people continued their practice of mentally processing energy, coupled with effleurage, co distribute healing energy throughout the body. Gary found that when this practice of effleurage ‘was coupled with the therapeutic power of essential oils and the stimulation of Vita Flex, its effects were greatly heightened. Since this therapeutic practice was adopted in 1989, Raindrop Technique has been embraced by massage therapists, chiropractors, and other medical professionals around the world forits help with relaxation, correcting spinal misalignments, and antiviral effets Statistical Validation In 2001, David Stewart, PhD, circulated a question- naire to over 2,000 health practitioners, massage thera- pists, aromatherapists, and their clients to gain insight on the results that were accruing from Raindrop Technique. He received 422 responses summarizing the experi- ences of some 14,000 Raindrop sessions. His findings are summarized in his booklet, A Staistical Validation of Raindrop Technique (available through Life Science Publishing; order online at wwwlfesciencepublishers, com or by caling toll-free 800-336-6308). Overall, the 416 respondents who had received a Raindrop Technique rated it positive (97 percent), pleasant (98 percent), resulted in improved health (89 percent), resulted in an improved emotional state (86 percent), and would choose to receive Raindrop Technique again (99.9 percent). 16 | Techniques for Essential Oil Application Techniques for Essential Oil Application | Chapter 16 Consistent with the French Model “The use of undiluted essential oils in Raindrop Technique is consistent with the French model for aromatherapy—which is che most extensively practiced and studied model in the world. With over 40 years of experience using essential oils clinically, the French. hhave consistently recommended neat (undiluted) use of essential oils. Anillustrious roster of 20th century French physicians provides convincing evidence that undiluted essential oils have a valuable place in the therapeutic arsenal of clinical professionals. René Gattefossé, PhD; Jean Valnet, MD; Jean-Claude Lapraz, MD; Daniel Pénoal, MD; and many others have long attested to the safe and effective use of undiluted essential oils and the dramatic and powerful benefits they can impart, ‘Skin Warming or Reddening In the case of Raindrop Technique, the use of certain undiluted essential oils typically causes minor reddening and “heat” in the tissues. Normally, this is perfectly safe and not something to be overly concerned. about. Individuals who have fair skin such as blondes and redheads or those persons whose systems are toxic are more susceptible to this temporary reddening. Should the reddening or heat become excessive, it can be remedied within a minute or two by immediately applying several drops of V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex or pure, high quality vegetable oil like jojoba, almond, or coconut oil on the affected area. This effectively dilutes the oils and che warming effect. ‘Temporary, mild warming is normal for Raindrop ‘Technique. Typically, it is even milder than that of many capsicum creams or sports ointments. Indeed, rather than being a cause of concer, this warming indicates that positive benefits are being received. In cases where the warmth or heat excceds che comfort zone of the recipient, as mentioned before, the facilicaror can apply any pure vegetable oil to the area until the comfort level is regained and reddening, dissipates (usually within 2-5 minutes). Note: I rash should appeas ic isan indication of a chemical reaction berween the oils and synthetic com- pounds in the skin cells and che interstitial fluid of the body (usually from conventional personal care products) Some misconstrue this as an allergic reaction, when in face the problem is not caused by an allergy but rather by foreign chemicals already imbedded in the tissues. Essential oils are known to digest toxic waste, chemicals, and other unwanted toxins in the body, and sometimes that process starts to work very quickly. Medical Professionals A number of medical professionals throughout the United States have adopted Raindrop Technique in their clinical practice and have found it to be an outstanding. ‘method to relieve the problems associated with sciatica, scoliosis, kyphosis, and chronic back pain. Ken Krieger, DC, a chiropractor practicing in Scottsdale, Arizona, states, “As a chiropractor, I believe that the dramatic results of Raindrop Technique are enough for me to rewrite the books on scaios Similarly, Terry Friedmann, MD, of Westminster, Colorado, stated that “these essential ols truly represent anew frontier of medicine; they have resolved cases that ‘many professionals had regarded as hopeless. Microorganisms May Cause Scoliosis and Sciatica A growing amount of scientific research shows that certain microorganisms lodge near the spinal cord and contribute to deformities. These pathogens create inflammation, which, in turn, contorts and disfigures the spinal column. Raindrop ‘Technique uses a sequence of highly antimicrobial essential oils dropped on the back as a non-invasive therapy for fighting against pathogens ying. dormant against the spine, which alleviates symptoms of scoliosis, kyphosis, and other back ailments while screngchening the immune system. Studies at Western General Hospital in. Edinbu Scotland linked virus-like particles to idiopathic scolisi Researchers at the University of Bonn have also found that the varicella zoster virus can lodge in the spinal ganglia throughout life.” Research in 2001 further corroborated the existence of infectious microorganisms sa cause of spine pain and inflammation. Alistair Stirling and his colleagues at the Royal Orthopedic Hospital in Birmingham, England, found that 53 percent of patients with severe sciatica v5.0 | © Copyignt 2011 Filth Eation | Essential Oils Desk Reference | 2.13 Essential Oils Desk Reference | fith Edition tested positive for chronic, low-grade infection by gram-negative bacteria (particularly Propionibacterium ‘acncs), which criggered inflammation near the spine. Stirling suggested that the reason these bacteria had not been identified earlier was because of the extended time required to incubate dise material (7 days). The tuberculosis mycobacterium has also been shown to contribute to spinal disease and possibly deformations. Research at the Pasteur Institute in France, published in The New Englond Journal of Medicine, documented increasing numbers of patients showing evidence of spinal disease (Pott's disease) caused by tuberculosis." In addition, vaccines made from live viruses have been linked to spinal problems. A 1982 study by Pincott and Taff found a connection between oral poliomyelitis vaccines and scoliosis” drop Technique is a powerful, noninvasive tech- nique utilizing the antiviral, antibacterial, and am flammatory action of several key essential oils 0 a the body in maintaining or retraining the spinal column's natural curvature. During the past 18 years, this technique has helped alleviate of resolve many cases of scoliosis, kyphosis, and chronic back pain and has eliminated the need for back surgery for hundreds of people. Powerful Antibacterial Agents Essential oilsaresome ofthe most powerful inhibitors of microbes known, and as such are an important, new \weapon in combating many types of tissue infections. A 1999 study by Marilena Marino and colleagues found that thyme oil exhibited strong action against stubborn gram-negative bacteria." Similarly, basil essential oil also demonstrated strong bactericidal action against microorganisms Aeromonas Iydrophila and Pseudomonas fluorescens. A study at che Central Food Technological Institute Mysore, India, found that a large number of essential oil components had tremendous germ-killing effects, inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus, Micrococcus, Bacillus, and Enterobacter strains of bacteria. ‘These compounds included menthol (found in pep- petmint), eucalyptol (found in rosemary, eucalyptus (E, radiata), and geranium), linalool (found in marjoram), and cital (found in lemongrass)" ‘A 2001 study conducted by D. Gary Young, Diane Horne, Sue Chao, and colleagues at Weber State ‘University in Ogden, Utah, found that oregano, thyme, peppermint, and basil exhibited very strong antimicrobial cffects against pathogens such as Steprococcus pneumoniae, a major cause of illness in young children and death in elderly and immune-weakened patients.” Many other studies confirm these findings.'* “The ability of essential oils to penetrate the skin quickly and passinto body tissues to produce therapeutic effects has also. been studied, Hoshi University researchers in Japan found that cyclic monoterpenes (including menthol, which is found in peppermint) are so effective in penetrating the skin that they can actually enhance the absorption of water-soluble drugs." North Dakota State University researchers have similarly found that cyclic monoterpenes such as limonene and other terpenoids such as menthone and eugenol easily pass through the dermis, magnifying the penetration of pharmaceutical drugs such as tamoxifen." Ingesting Essential Oils Ieis interesting to note that many essential oils used in Raindrop Technique—in addition to being highly antimicrobial—are also among those classified as GRAS, (Generally Regarded As Safe) for internal use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. These include basil, marjoram, peppermint, oregano, and thyme. These and many other essential oils on the GRAS list have had a long history for decades as foods or Aavorings with virtually no adverse reactions. It is interesting how the people of the world were ingesting essential oils long before the FDA determined they were safe. In sum, Raindrop Technique is a safe, noninvasive ‘way to achieve spinal health. It is an invaluable method ‘to promote healing from within using topically applied essential ols. The Raindrop Technique Experience Most people would agree that massage is soothing, relaxing, and pleasurable. But Raindrop Technique is ‘unquestionably far superior as it combines essential oils with special massage techniques to add greater therapeutic benefits to a pleasurable massage. 3.14 | Chapt 10 | Techniques (or Essential Ol Application Techniques for Essential Oil Application | Chapter 16 ‘Anyone who has experienced Raindrop Technique is very quick to get on the massage table again to enjoy and discover new benefits of this most remarkable application of essential oils Physical Relief and Emotional Release ‘When D. Gary Young developed Raindrop Technique in 1991, he firs chose nine therapeutic-grade essential oils that would synergistically combine to kill viral and bacte- rial pathogens, reduce inflammation, support the immune system, ease respiratory discomfort, relax stressed muscles, and relieve the body of bone and joint discomfort. He fele this combination of oils would also balance the energy, lift the spirit by reducing stress, and calm a troubled and confused mind, This began a new realm of healing that emerged from within the confines of ‘emotional bondage. In the cerebral cortex is a structure called the amygdala that is affected only by scent. Ic is here that the emotions and memories of life are stored. Since essential oils have the ability to cross the blood barrier and stimulate the amygdala, buried feelings of past trauma, emotional upset, and unhappy memories are ofien released to the cognizant mind, bringing those feelings and consequences to the surface of awareness. Many physical and emotional problems become dim or completely disappear as the foundation of the emotion is discovered and released. Raindrop ‘Technique has vast benefits only to be realized by the individual receiving the application, It is different for cach individual, unlike anyone else, and is very personal and specific to each person's needs. Children tend to respond even faster than adults because they do not have any preconceived ideas about what they want to have happen or experience. ‘They just love it and often fall asleep while the essential oils and the touch of massage fill them with peace and contentment as body systems harmonize together. Raindrop Technique is an experience for everyone at any age for whatever the need or desire may be, and pethapsitis usta time of quiet relaxation and enjoyment. Raindrop Technique and Essential Oils Raindrop ‘Technique is one of the safest, most noninvasive regimens available for spinal health. Starting from the low back, the oils are feathered with the back of the fingers up along the vertebrae, out over the back muscles, and ‘over the shoulders to the neck. Although the entire technique takes from 30-45 minutes to complete, the oils continue to work for several days as the healing and realignment process takes place. Many recipients feel the benefits of the oils for several days afterwards, as they recognize thac the pain has decreased or is completely gone, there is no fever, they have more mobility, and they have an overall feeling of peace and a renewed rest for life Experiencing the wonderful results of a first-time Raindrop application does not mean that all the desired benefits will be realized. Play soft, relaxing music if desired by recipient. + ‘The room temperature should be cool enough to prevent sweating but warm enough to be comfortable, as the back and legs will be exposed. + Remove al jewelry including watches, pendants, chains, rings, bracelets, belts, earrings, and eyeglasses. They are often irritating to the skin and may interfere with the electrical energy of the oils as they move through the body. The facilitator may wear his or her glasses, if necessary. Cell phones are very disruptive and should be turned off ‘A facilitator should only work if feeling calm and peaceful in order to focus and be in harmony with the application. If the receiver has been exposed to chemicals, leaving a residue in the body, there could be a reaction to the oils. If this isa possibilty, reduce the number of drops used. The receiver needs to wear clothing that flly exposes the back. A hospital gown works extremely wel. As in massage, a large towel can be used for covering. The facilitator’ fingernails need to be clipped short and filed to prevent scratching, particulaely when performing the Vita Flex technique. In addition, essential ils will quickly remove nail polish and could leave a residue on the recipients skin while the facilitator is feathering the oils. Prior to beginning the Raindrop Technique, ask the receiver to le the facilitator know ifat any time he or she is feling uncomfortable during the session. Periodically ask the receiver how he or she is doing, for comfort with position, and heat of the oils. Often the receiver will fall asleep because of the relaxing and calming effects of the essential oil ‘The facilitator should always maintain physical contact, with one hand always on the receiver to provide security and comfort. Otherwise, there may bea disconnected feeling and an interruption of the flow of energy. I is possible that the Raindrop Technique will create structural change in the body, but allow the body to do this naturally. Do not apply any pressure to the spine or try to force any movement. ‘Make sure the receiver drinks plenty of pure water when finished. If the recipient does have an emotional release, have the individual stay in a quiet space for a couple of hours to allow completion of the process. Make sure the recipient is steady on his or her feet before walking after the Raindrop Technique is finished. Different constituents ii oil can exert different effects. For example, German chamomile contains azulene, a dark blue compound that has powerful anti-inflammatory compounds. It also contains bisobolol, a compound studied for its sedative and mood-balancing properties. Phenols found in thyme, melaleuca, and marjoram and eugenol found in clove and basil are antiseptic, antibacterial, and support the immune system. Ethers found in lavender are balancing, calming, help release emotions, and have an antidepressant effect. ‘Aldehydes found in cassia, cinnamon bark, and lemongrass are antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and calming, ‘Coumarins have the fragrance of freshly cut hay for grass and are found in conyza and cassia and have antiviral, anibacterial, and antifungal properties. Bring the legs rogether and set them back down on the table; measure the difference in distance from heel co hee, if cher is any. STEP 2: Balancing Energy Using Valor on Feet and Shoulders ‘Once the facilitator has made connection with the receiver with the Valor essential oil blend, itis important to stay in contact until the Raindrop Technique is completed, Apply Valor to the feet and to the shoulders at the same time, if there is a second facilitator (o} Valor is important fora successful Raindrop apy because it works on the physica, elecerical, spiritual, and emotional levels, supporting the physical and energy alignment of the body. ‘When using Valor to balance energies, itisimportant to hold the feet for 3-5 minutes until you feel the heart beat pulsating in your hands. The facilitator will have to cross arms, as shown in Figure 1. “The palms of the hands will be underneath each foot, in the arch area. ‘The facilitator needs to focus while holding this ition for up to 5 minutes, feeling for subtle changes such as increased warmth, smooth pulsing sensations, or vibrations. Once the facilitator senses the energy in both hands, he or she can recheck the length of the legs and proceed to the next step. Shoulder Application—Facilitator(s)—Valor A second facilitator ideally performs this step with the application of the Valor essential oil blend at the same time the other facilitator is holding the feet ofthe receiver “The facilitator stands at the receiver's head and puts 3 drops of Valor in cach hand. Then with palms down, he or she places his or her right hand on che center spot berween the neck and the shoulder with the right palm placed on the right shoulder area and the left palm placed. on the left shoulder area of the recipient. The facilitator holds the shoulders while the other facilitator holds the fect until the balancing with Valor has completed. If there is only one facilitator doing the application, the facilitator will put Valor on the shoulders first and then go tothe fee, pur che olson the feet, and hold, This ‘way, when finished with Valor on the feet, the facilitator can proceed to the Vita Flex technique on the feet. Figure 3 — Vita Flex along the spinal reflex point, step 1 (Side view and bottom view) STEP 3: Vita Flex on the Spinal Reflex Area of the Feet ‘The seven essential oils in application sequence are ‘oregano, thyme, basil, cypress, wintergreen, marjoram, and peppermint. Repeat this same sequence with each of the seven oils, starting on the right foot, and completing the left foot before going on to the next oil. STEP 4: The 5-Step Feathering ‘Technique on the Back Have the receiver turn over, face down. Be sure the receiver is comfortable and his or her modesty is respected. “The receiver should place arms comfortably along the sides of the body. The entire back needs to be exposed for application of the Raindrop oils, which are applied from the very base of the spine (sacrum) ¢o the base of the neck (atlas). “The oils used in the next several steps mirror those used in the Vita Flex foot application and are applied in the same sequence. Before beginning to apply the oils to the back, observe the receiver's spine. Look for areas of discoloration or distortion. Variations of the spine may indicate regions of structural compromise. Visually divide the entire back into three equal regions: bottom (sacrum), middle (lumbar), and top (thorax). “The feathering technique is performed by brushing the backs of the fingertips, very lightly, going up the spine so that they are barely felt. This creates a tingling effect for the recipient, giving him or her what is commonly known as goose bumps. The purpose of this feathering isto stimulace energy centers and awaken the receptors along the spine. STEP 5: Feathering Application 1. Using strokes that go up the same line along the center of the spine, brush the bottom (sacrum) segment 3 times using 6-8 inch strokes, alternating hands (right, left, right, left, et.) (See Figure 7). Continuing the feather stroking in a fluid motion, ‘move up to the middle (lumbar) region and perform the same process of 3 alternating strokes (lef, right, Figure 8 — 12.15 inch Feather Strokes up the spine Figure 9 — 12-15 inch Feather Strokes up the spine left, ete). Finally; move up tothe top (thorax) region and perform the same process of 3 alternating strokes (sight, left, right, left, ete) 2. Start feathering again with longer strokes, this ime feathering in 3 alternating strokes up the length of both the bottom and middle regions of the back, directly up and along the center of the spine. These strokes will be 12-15 inches long (See Figure 8). ‘Afier completing 3 longer strokes on the combined bottom and middle regions, in a fluid motion, move to the middle and top regions and perform 3 alternating longer strokes there (See Figure 9). 3. Complete this series by feathering up the entire length of the back in 3 long strokes, from sacrum to atlas alternating hands. Remember: Feather strokes should be very light, ‘using only the very tips of the fingers. A good sign that this is happening is the appearance of goose bumps on the receiver's back. 4, Start fan feather strokes at the very base of the bottom region (sacrum) of the spine by placing both hands side-by-side, backs of the fingertips facing down. Center the hands on the spine, over the spinal muscles, left hand on the left side of the spine and right hand on the right of the spine. Feather up 6-8 inches, moving both hands together up the spine, chen fan each hand off in a perpendicular direction to the spine, the right hand flaring to the far right side of che back and the lefe hand flaring to the far left sie of the back. Repeat these simultaneous strokes 2 more times, making a coral of 3 fan strokes for this region. ‘Then, in a continuous motion, move to the middle Figure 12— Applying oregano up the spine (lumbar) region of the back and do the same process, moving both hands together up the spine, flaring them to either side 3 times (See Figure 10). Complete this step by doing the same 3 fan strokes oon the top (thorax) region of the back 5. Finally, complete the fan feather stroke process with set of 3 simultancous, full-length strokes from the base of the spine to the base of the neck, fanning at the top across the shoulders, the right hand flaring to the right and the lefe hand flaring to the lefe, then off the shoulders (See Figure 11). “This completes the feathering technique, and all five steps of the technique are used in every step of Raindrop ‘Technique after cach application of the specified oil Apply the drops of oregano along the spine by holding the bottle 6 inches above the back and evenly spacing 3-5 drops directly over the middle of the back from the bottom (sacrum) to the top of the shoulder area of spine (Figure 12). This oil may feel warm, especially around the neck area, so do not drop the oregano directly on the neck area. Immediately after applying, feather stroke the oil into the skin. Apply thyme oil by holding the bottle 6 inches above the back and evenly spacing 3-5 drops up the middle of the back, starting from bottom of the spine going up to the top of the shoulder area of the spine (Figure 12). This oil may feel warm, especially around the neck area, so do not drop the thyme oil directly on the neck. Feather stroke the oil along the spine immediately after applying. If the oils are too “hot” or burn, simply dilute them with V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex. Within just a few moments, the burning sensation will dissipate. Straddle the base of the spine with the index and middle fingers of the left hand. Do not raise the left hand too high. The heel of the left hand should be no more than a finger’s width above the back. The full pads of the straddling fingers above the first knuckle should be in contact with the back. Place the bottom edge of the right hand, pinky side down, just below the middle joints of the two straddling fingers (See Figure 16). Simultaneously, perform the following motions: Pall the straddling fingers slowly to the top of the spine, applying downward pressure, as in a sawing motion, with the right hand using short, rapid, 1 inch back-and- forth motions. The right hand should NOT slip or slide over the left hand but should create a rocking motion to the bottom hand. This rocking motion is pulled che full length of the back by moving the bortom hand. ar Figure 18 — Thumb Roll up spine, step 2 Upon reaching the neck, atthe very base of the skull (occiput) with the two hands still in place, gently push 3 times with the right hand, pushing the straddling. fingers toward the head. This stretches the muscles at the top of the spine, which helps loosen them and facilitates better penetration to the brain stem. Repeat this entire process 2 more times for a total of 3 times. STEP 8: Apply 5-8 drops of wintergreen oil by holding the bottle 6 inches above the back and evenly spacing the drops along the spine, starting from the bottom of the spine going up to the top of the spine. Feather stroke the drops into the back immediately after applying the oil, as described in the 5-step feathering technique. Begin the Vita Flex Thumb Roll by placing both thumbs, 1 inch apart, on cither side of the spine at the base, with one thumb slightly higher than the other to avoid bumping thumbs on the inward roll. Scart the Thumb Roll by rolling both thumbs inward, in a quick motion, over the edge of the thumbs to the side of the thumb nail; then roll back to the starting position. Apply constant, mild pressure with the thumbs and do not break contact with the skin between rolls or when changing hand position. Continue this rolling motion, back and forth, working up along the spine in 1 inch increments from the bottom to the top (See Figures 17 and 18). The facilitator’s thumbnails must be filed down as short as possible, with no sharp edges, so as not to cause discomfort to the receiver during this step. Use free-form feather strokes as needed to distribute the oil evenly. Feather stroke the oil into the spine immediately after applying the oil, as described in the 5-step feathering technique. Begin the Circular Hand Massage by standing on the receiver’ right side and placing the palms of both hands, side-by-side, thumbs overlapped, on the lower right side of the back. The palms should be flat so that the hands “cup” che receiver's back on the right side of the spine, The massage should be firm co access the deeper tissues, but not jerky. Rorate the hands in 3 large (4-6 inch diameter), clockwise circles. Then move the hands up one hand width and do the 3 clockwise circles again, as shown in Figure 19. Continue this process, moving up to the base of the neck. This massaging motion should include areas along the outer edges of the rib cage and shoulders that have not been previously worked. Maintaining body contact, move to the lefe side of the receiver and repeat the same process, moving up the left side of the back. Repeat this cycle 2 more times, alternating sides, for a total of 3 times. Note: if che skin absorbs che marjoram oil and becomes dry, additional drops may be added as needed to maintain a reasonable level of lubrication. Figure 21 — Palm rub massage on the back, step 2 STEP 10: Palm Slide—Aroma Siez Let 8-10 drops of Aroma Siez fall over the entire back, holding the bottle 6 inches above the back. Use free-form feather stroking to distribute the oil evenly. Feather stroke the oil along the spine immediately after applying it. Begin the Palm Slide by placing both hands at the base of the receiver's back, palms down, with one hand. lose to you and one hand on the far side of the back. “Then slide the palms using mild, downward pressure, in ‘opposite directions, from one side of the rib cage to the other side, working slowly up the back, toward the neck (See Figures 20 and 21). STEP 12: Feathering Technique—Valor Apply 8-10 drops of Valor, holding the bortle 6 inches above the back and dropping the oil over the entire back. Use free-form feather strokes to distribute the oil evenly. Feather stroke the oil into the skin along the spine immediately after applying the oil, as described in the 5-step feathering technique. Gently have the recipient roll over onto his or her back, staying modest and appropriately covered. STEP 13: Brain Stem Pump Technique “The facilitator sits at the receivers head, resting the forearms on the table. Cup the hands under the base of the skull with the palms up and the fingers curving around the bottom of the occipital region of the skull so thac the fingertips touch the very base of the skull. ‘The index fingers should be positioned just underneath the mastoid process. Make sure the fingertips are atthe bottom of the ‘occipital bone, and not farther down on the neck muscles, in order to achieve good movement. The fingers of each hand should be touching each other. The forearms placed ‘on the table should not move (See Figure 22). ‘Now pull with the fingers of both hands cowards the facilitator to create a gentle, rocking motion. (The movements of the fingers are like when you are using. your index finger to motion to someone to come to you, except in this application use all four fingers. ‘Now with just your fingers flexing back and forth, rock them back and forth to create a rocking motion so that the feet move with each gentle, rocking motion. Do this pro- cess for 1 minute so that it becomes a flowing movement of pull-elax-pull-relax. When this movement is performed correctly, you will se the receiver's toes rock forward 1-2 inches with each pull. After 1 minute of rocking and pull- ing, rest for 1 minute, repeat for another minute, then rest ‘once more for 1 minute. This step is done 3 times. ‘While this isa firm movement, it should not cause discomfort for the receiver. This movement provides an excellent lymphatic pump effec. For optimum results, the receiver should drink extra water for the first few days following Raindrop ‘Technique. This will aid the body in flushing toxins from the tis Ifyou are not a chiropractor, MD, licensed massage therapist, or qualified health professional, do not do this ifthe recipient has had any neck or back injuries STEP 14: Stretch and Relax Pull Sitso that your shoulders are parallel to the receiver's shoulders. Hold the receiver's head, using the cranial hold, with the less dominant hand under the base of the head and the dominant hand cradling the chin, Make sure the recipient's teeth are together. Place together the pointer finger and middle finger, cradling the chin just above the Adam’ apple, keeping the ring and pinky finger from touching the throat. This placement of the fingers isto stabilize the head. Gently pull straight back toward you, with your hand under the base of the skull and the other hand on the chin, gently supporting it while you pull. Hold for 3-5 seconds and gently release. Repeat for a total of 3 times. Another facilitator may assist with this process by standing at the feet and holding the ankles, with the right hand under the left ankle and the left hand under right ankle. When the gentle pulling is being done at the head, the facilitator at the feet holds the ankles, gently pulls straight back, and then releases at the same time as the facilitator who is at the head. STEP 15: Protection—White Angelica Rub 2-3 drops of White Angelica on the recipient's shoulders, back of the neck, and thymus. This increases the aura around the body to bring ita sense of strength and protection, Customizing Raindrop Technique Raindrop Technique may be customized to address different health issues that are not directly related to back problems. Lung infections, digestive complaints, hormonal problems, liver insuffciencies, and other problems can all be dealt with by substituting standard Raindrop Technique essential oils wich other oils that ae specifically targeted for that body system. Asarule, when customizing, start with Valor, oregano, and thyme. For extra antiviral effect, add. mountain savory. The other essential ols such as basil, wintergreen, marjoram, thyme, or eypress can be omitted or replaced by essential oils specific for the condition being targeted. For example, if targeting a lung infection, replace basil and wintergreen with ravintsara. Cypress is replaced with ceucalypeus (E. radiata), and marjoram, replaced with R.C. Use Chapter 21, The Personal Usage Guide, to see other essentials oils that would be applicable for what the individual needs are. ‘There are several va ns co the basic Raindrop “Technique. These variations are not easy to explain and requite class instruction and demonstration. Tewould beinformative ro attend a Raindrop Technique ‘Training with D. Gary Young or one of his trainers and learn the Raindrop Technique from someone who has the knowledge of essential oils and theit application. Raindrop Technique has assisted both professionals and lay people to achieve true balance in the body. ur of the thousands of Raindrop Technique sessions that have been performed, there have been hundreds of instances where the results were amazingly profound and immediate. Here ae just a few examples: A young man from Denver, Colorado, who suffered from chronic scoliosis, was able—for the first eight years—to fully bend over after the appli of Raindrop Technique. With an overhead camera televising an image of his spine as he bent over, an audience of over 400 watched the vertebrae in his spine literally move into place. When he stood up, he was measured and had gained an inch in height. Another instance involved a professional model, in her early 40s, who had developed early adult-onset scoliosis. She had to alter clothing so that it would fi properly for modeling sessions. She was not able to sit still for any length of time. After a Raindrop session, her spine straightened to such a degree that she, too, gained an inch in height. She followed up with more sessions, and in the next few months reported that all discomfort ‘was gone, She now dances and rides horses pain free. It is quite common that individuals with scoliosis who receive Raindrop Technique will gain 1/2 inch or ‘more in stature from a single application. ‘Many others have reported pain relief, congestion relief, and cold and flu relief as a result of Raindrop: ‘Technique, which is why it has captured so much incerest among those involved in the healing arts.
