COMMUNITY HEALTH ACTIVITY

Activity: Cough and Colds Lecture


Venue: Barangay Subabasbas, Lower Panas, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu
Date: January 6, 2016
Number of Participants: 29

General Objectives:
By the end of the activities, the medical interns will be able to impart to the community
the important facts and knowledge about cough and colds lecture.

Specific Objectives:

Promote awareness of the community regarding cough and colds, its causes,
management, and prevention. This will be discussed and be imparted to the community
through proper lectures.

Encourage the residents to have basic understanding on the mode of transmission of the
disease and to prevent it through teaching proper personal hygiene, such as proper
handwashing, cleaning their surroundings, and proper waste disposal.

Encourage lifestyle modification (e.g. smoking and drinking cessation) through lectures.
Also encourage the community to have adequate rest, regular exercise, eat healthy foods,
drink plenty of water to strengthen their immunity, and have a yearly flu vaccination.

Provide information on the transmission of the infection by suggesting courses of actions


with emphasis on proper cough decorum such as covering mouth when sneezing or

coughing, frequent handwashing, proper disposal of nasal/oral discharges to prevent the


occurrence of the infections

Activity Proper:

The activity started by introducing ourselves and what are the things we are going to do.

Followed by an opening prayer conducted by a fellow intern.

URTI discussion with emphasis on eatiology, signs and symptoms, complications, and
treatment

Question and Answer portion where meical interns provided prizes for the residents who
were able to answer

Activity: Hypertension Awareness


Venue: Baranggay Subabasbas Lower Panas, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu

General Objectives:
By the end of the activities, the medical interns will be able to impart to the community
the important facts and knowledge about hypertension.

Spercific Objectives:

To measure respondents blood pressure

To distinguish patients with high blood pressure.

To classify the degree of hypertension according to INC 7

To give knowledge about hyertension through focus group discussion

To provide first line treatment for hypertension to identified patients

Preparations:

Research regarding informations about hypertension

Prepare visual aids and prizes to enhance active participation of the residents

Invite all the residents of the community

Activity Proper:

The activity was started by introducing ourselves and a prayer

Health teaching was started by emphasizing the present status of the community
regarding hypertension

Emphasis on eatiology, signs and symptoms, complications, and management

Question and Answer portion and giving of prizes

Feeding program was done

Activity: Diabetes Mellitus Lecture


Venue: Barangay Subabasbas Basketball court, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu

General Objectives:
By the end of the activities, the medical interns will be able to relay to the community the
essential facts about Diabetes Mellitus.

Specific Objectives:

To measure respondents' blood sugar level thru RBS measurement

To distinguish patients with blood sugar

To give knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus through a focus group discussion

To provide first line treatment for Diabetes Mellitus to identified patients

To provide information on how to help control the level of sugar in the blood

ADA Recommendation:
-Screen individuals >45 years old every 3 years
-Screen individuals at an early age if they are overweight (BMI >25 kg/m2) and with
additional risk factor for DM

Preparations:

Research regarding information about Diabetes Mellitus

Prepare Visual aids and prizes to encourage participation

General Objectives:

By the end of the activities, the medical interns will be able to impart the important facts
and knowledge about diarrhea to the community

Specific Objectives:

Promote awareness of the community regarding diarrhea, its causes, management, and
prevention. This will be discuss and imparted to the community through a lecture

Encourage residents to have basic understanding on the mode of transmission of the


disease and to prevent it through teaching proper personal hygiene such as proper
handwashing, cleaning their sorroundings, and proper waste disposal

Encourage use of mineral water or heated water for consumption, proper cleaning of
utensils for eating, and handwashing before and after eating

Provide information on the transmission of the infection by suggesting courses of action


which will prevent or minimize transmission of disease

Activity proper:

The activity started by introducing ourselves and an opening prayer

Diarrhea was discussed with emphasis on eatiology, signs and symptoms, complications,
and management

Question and Answer portion and giving of prizes for those who can answer correctly
