Introduction

1 Introduction
The creation of predictions and analysis arrays can be one of the most time consuming parts of RF
Planning. ARRAYWIZARD eliminates the need to create arrays manually. Using the filters you
have created in ENTERPRISE and the data in your database, ARRAYWIZARD automatically
generates arrays for you. You can also use it to populate your ENTERPRISE Site Database with
location-related planning data for GSM and UMTS networks. ARRAYWIZARD enables you to
process your data throughout a distributed PC based network.
You can use ARRAYWIZARD to:

Create, maintain and monitor the ARRAYWIZARD Agents which handle distributed
workload

Create and maintain parameter sets to control the generation of predictions, arrays, and
location-related planning data

Adjust the production of predictions and arrays using network parameters

Produce statistics reports

To view the arrays that have been created by ARRAYWIZARD you use the Map View window in
ENTERPRISE as described in the ASSET User Reference Guide.

Setting Up Agents

3 Setting Up Agents
ARRAYWIZARD can distribute the processing load across multiple PCs to achieve greater speeds
and to accomplish large tasks. In the context of ARRAYWIZARD, "agents" are applications that
generate predictions and arrays based on parameter sets. ARRAYWIZARD defines eight types of
agent:

2g

3g

LAC & RAC

Location Based Services

Polygon Assignment

Prediction

Interference

LTE

Each type of agent has a connection to the central ENTERPRISE database. A single PC can run
multiple instances of such agents.
You can choose to run agents on separate machines in your network, for distributed processing.
These can predict and re-predict out-of-date sites at defined intervals. Intervals can be set in the
scheduler or you can manually start and stop parameter sets.
The following table shows the associations between agents and parameter sets:

Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related Planning Data

4 Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related

Planning Data
Predictions and arrays are generated from network information stored in your database. You can
configure parameter sets to extract this information from your database and create your arrays. You
can schedule the interval for this extraction to ensure that your predictions and arrays are up to
date. If they are found to be out of date, they are updated during the predictions process.
Important: Before you create coverage analysis arrays, ensure you have created filters and
coverage schemas in ENTERPRISE and ASSET. For more information see the ENTERPRISE and
ASSET User Reference Guides.
ARRAYWIZARD uses the same system to create its Pathloss Predictions and Coverage Arrays as
ASSET. It can create:

GSM coverage analysis arrays such as Best Server and Service Area (block or contour)

3g coverage analysis arrays such as Pilot Strength, Ec/Io, Pilot Polluters and Handover
Type for UMTS and CDMA2000 networks

Location-related planning data associated with polygon assignment planning, LAC and
RAC assignment planning, and location based services

LTE coverage analysis arrays

Interference analysis arrays

ARRAYWIZARD uses tiling as a way of breaking down the region of interest into more manageable
portions which require fewer resources and can also be distributed for processing. By decreasing
the tile size, you can create more tiles which require less memory and processing, but
consequently decrease the speed of the calculations. The tile size defines the distance in km that
each array file is created for. For example, a tile size of 30 will create array tiles of 30 x 30 square
km for the entire area of the network you are using for your predictions.
Having created arrays in ARRAYWIZARD, you can view them in ENTERPRISE by loading the
ARRAYWIZARD index.txt file into ENTERPRISE. For more information, see "Loading Arrays
generated by ARRAYWIZARD" in the ENTERPRISE User Reference Guide.

Opening and Closing Projects

In ARRAYWIZARD you can configure coverage and prediction settings for several projects stored
in the same database.
The multi-project support that ARRAYWIZARD provides enables you to perform the following
functions on parameter sets without having to open the projects with which they are associated:

21

ARRAYWIZARD 9.0 User Reference Guide

Adding 2g Coverage/Interference Analysis Parameter Sets

2g coverage/interference analysis parameter sets are used to retrieve information from your
database which is needed to create 2g coverage/interference analysis arrays. For more information
on planner prerequisites and the setting of specific parameters see the ASSET User Reference
Guide.
Note: Before creating 2g coverage/interference analysis parameter sets, ensure that you have
added an agent. For information on how to do this, see Adding Agents on page 14.
To create a 2g coverage/interference analysis parameter set:
1. In the left hand pane of the main window select 2g Analysis. Right-click and from the menu
that appears, select Add 2g Coverage/Interference Analysis.
Note: If you have not yet opened a project, a message appears, asking if you wish to open
one. Click Yes and in the Start Project window, select the required project and click Start.
2. On the Select View page that appears, enter in the co-ordinates for the area of your
network view containing the sites you wish to predict.
- or
If you are displaying the sites in the Map View window, click Select View to use the view
currently selected.
3. Click Next.
4. Select the filters you wish to use and click Next.
5. Select the types of arrays you wish to create. If you wish to display a particular Nth best
server, type a value for N next to the option:

Note: The default setting of 1 is equivalent to the best server, 2 represents the second
best server and so on.
6. In the Resolution field, select a resolution for the array.
7. In the Tile Size field, select a tile size.
This size defines the distance in km that each array file is created for. For example, a tile
size of 30 will create array tiles of 30 x 30 square km for the entire area of the network you
are using for your predictions.
The number of tiles that will be generated by your choice of tile size and region is shown
below the Tile Size field after you have made an entry in it:

8. Click Next.
22

Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related Planning Data

9. Choose whether cell layers will be considered during the creation of coverage arrays and
select the layers whose contribution you want to include. You can do this for both the
serving and interfering signal.
10. To override the best server selection algorithm and ignore the contribution of higher priority
cell layers without any carrier assignments, select the Consider only sub-cells that have
carrier layers with assigned carriers option. This prevents holes in the interference array
from appearing when a sub-cell theoretically provides coverage but has not yet been
assigned any carriers.
11. In the Thresholds pane, specify the values for Signal Threshold and TA (Timing Advance)
Threshold.
These thresholds restrict the extent of coverage provided by the sub-cell to either of these
thresholds, whichever is reached first.
(Within ENTERPRISE these thresholds are set on the Coverage/Interference tab of the
Array Settings dialog box which you open by selecting Array Settings from the Arrays
menu).
12. In the Cell Parameters pane, select to use sub-cell specific or global values.
To use values that you have entered in the Thresholds pane as described above, you
must select sub-cell specific.
If you select Global Values, the values set on the General tab for each sub-cell in the
ENTERPRISE Site Database are used.
13. Click Next.
14. In the Channel Selection pane, select what type of interference you want to be considered
for the interference arrays:
o

Co-Channel Only

Adjacent Channel Only

Co-Channel and Adjacent Channel

If you select Adjacent Channel Only or Co-Channel and Adjacent Channel, the value in
the Adjacent Channel Offset pane is used to produce the adjacent channel arrays. You
can edit this value if you wish. It is also used to produce the adjacent channel curve used in
calculating interference.
15. In the Interference Options pane you can:
Select

To

Use Frequency
Hopping

Use Frequency Hopping information when creating arrays.

If you have selected Use Frequency Hopping, you can also choose to use
Frequency diversity information when generating arrays. This adds a gain to the
serving cell signal to simulate the improvement in C/I that frequency diversity
provides. The gain applied depends upon the number of hopping frequencies. For
more information on the frequency hopping diversity gain value, see the ASSET
User Reference Guide.
The interference array calculations also use a BER to/from C/I conversion when
frequency hopping is used. For more information on using frequency hopping, see
the ASSET User Reference Guide.

Use DTX

Use DTX information when creating arrays. This means ASSET will scale down
the power of the transmitter based on the activity factor of the terminal. Using
DTX then helps to reduce interference between different cells and to increase the
capacity of the system.

23

ARRAYWIZARD 9.0 User Reference Guide

Select

To

Use Traffic

Scale the interference arrays if the traffic load of a subcell is smaller than the
potential capacity of the carriers allocated to that subcell.
By comparing the channels allocated to a subcell with the number of channels
required by the traffic load, the proportion of channels in use can be calculated
and interference reduced accordingly.

Use Antenna Hopping Use the antenna hopping gain in the array calculations. Antenna hopping is a
transmit diversity scheme in which consecutive bursts of information are
transmitted on different antennas. When antennas are exposed to different
multipath fading, a diversity gain is achieved. For information on how this gain is
calculated, see the ASSET User Reference Guide.

16. In the Erlang Table type pane, select a blocking percentage and select to use either the
Erlang B or Erlang C blocking formula. These blocking formulas are described in the
ASSET User Reference Guide.
17. Click Next.
18. On the Prediction Parameters page, select Use network element settings or Use
overridden settings.
If you choose Use network element settings, the creation of arrays is based on the
model, resolution and radius settings on the ENTERPRISE Site Database Antennas tab.
If you choose Use overridden settings, the creation of arrays is based on your override
settings. For more information on these options, see the ASSET User Reference Guide.
19. On the Select Schedule page, indicate whether you wish to run your parameter set
manually or every:
o

specified number of minutes

specified number of days at a specified time

specified weekday or number of weekdays at a specified time

specified day of a specified month or number of months at a specified time

Note: The ARRAYWIZARD Administrator must be running for scheduled parameter sets to
run.
You can change the schedule later if you want to. For information on how to do this see
Changing Parameter Set Schedules on page 64.
20. Click Next.
21. Select the Apply smoothing when loading predictions option if you want bilinear
smoothing to be performed on prediction (pathloss) data when it is used. This helps to

24

Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related Planning Data

27. If you have selected an output file format of DAT, you can choose to generate statistics
reports by selecting the Generate array stats option in the Array statistics reports pane.
To determine which details are included in the report:
o

Click the Configure button

Indicate your choices in the Statistics dialog box

Because ARRAYWIZARD uses distributed processing, you will need to add a valid network
path in the Raster file(.tri) field of the Statistics dialog box. For further information on the
parameters in the Statistics dialog box, see the Generating Reports and Statistics
chapter of the ASSET User Reference Guide.
28. If you have chosen to generate statistics reports you must also select the statistics file type
that you require: XLS, text or CSL. The statistics file type that you choose will apply to all
array types.
29. If more than one tile results from your settings in the Tile Size field as described earlier in
this procedure, and you have chosen to generate statistics reports, a merged file based on
the tiles is created for the purpose of generating the statistics.
Tip: You can keep this merged file for use in ENTERPRISE by selecting the Save
resultant merged file option.
30. The file names for your array output files will comprise a data related element and a text
element. You can choose the order in which these elements appear. The data element can
be created from the region and resolution, an incrementing number (that is, a number which
increases with each file created), or an incrementing number and the resolution. In the
Naming convention for file name data pane, select the type of data element and the
order of text and data that you require.
31. You may want to use a post processing application to handle your output files. To open
such an application automatically once your output files have been produced, select the
'Run an executable when the parameter set has completed' option.
You can then click the browse button and locate the required executable, or drag the
executable into the specification field. You can also select the 'Only run if no errors were
encountered' option if applicable, and type any parameters applicable to the executable
into the Optional command line argument field.
32. To run the program using the Windows account details that you have specified using the
Scheduler Control dialog box (for more information, see Controlling the Scheduler on
page 86), select the 'Use scheduler Postprocess Account' option. No user need be
logged on, but if one is, no desktop interaction occurs and the task is only visible in
Windows Task Manager.
Warning: A program that stops to await user input will not work.
- or To run the program using the Windows account details that you logged on to this machine
with, select the 'Use Interactive user logon account' option. The log on is displayed on
the desktop. If no user is logged on, the scheduler does not run the program.
33. To have all the files in your coverage folder deleted before your arrays are created, select
the appropriate option.
34. Click Finish. Your parameter set is listed in the right hand pane of the main window and is
ready to be run manually or when specified by the scheduler:

Adding 2g Signal Coverage Analysis Parameter Sets

2g signal coverage analysis parameter sets are used to retrieve information from your database
which is needed to create 2g signal coverage analysis arrays. For more information on planner
prerequisites and the setting of specific parameters see the ASSET User Reference Guide.
Note: Before creating 2g signal coverage analysis parameter sets, ensure that you have added an
agent. For information on how to do this, see Adding Agents on page 14.
To create a 2g signal coverage analysis parameter set:
1. In the left hand pane of the main window select 2g Analysis. Right-click and from the menu
that appears, select Add 2g Signal Coverage Analysis
Note: If you have not yet opened a project, a message appears, asking if you wish to open
one. Click Yes and in the Start Project window, select the required project and click Start.
2. On the Select View page that appears, enter in the co-ordinates for the area of your
network view containing the sites you wish to predict.
- or
If you are displaying the sites in the Map View window, click Select View to use the view
currently selected.
3. Click Next.
4. Select the filters you wish to use and click Next.
5. Where applicable use any available options to indicate the terminal types that you wish to
include in your 3g analysis.
6. Click Next.
7. Select the cell layer that you want to include in the array. Only this one is generated.
- or Select All to get combined and every individual cell layer.
8. Select which array to display by default (Best Server by RSS or RSS, the others can be
displayed later).
9. Specify the resolution of the array. You can specify any resolution. The output arrays will be
generated at that requested resolution, using the prediction files at the resolutions specified
for the corresponding network elements in the Site Database (or from the Override option in
the Array Settings dialog box). A deterministic conversion process is used where
necessary.
10. Specify the 'Max Nth Required' value according to the number of server layers you want to
display.
Note: Do not set this value to a greater number than the Nth layer that you wish to see
(there is no need for any 'extra margin').
11. If you want to restrict the coverage arrays to one or more vectors, select the Use Vectors
checkbox, then click Select Vectors, and in the Select Vectors dialog box, select the
required vector(s), and click OK.
26

Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related Planning Data

12. Select whether or not to output the DL Loss or Indoor arrays (if not needed, they should be
excluded).
13. Select to 'Use Offsets, SS Mode', if you want the signal offsets to be considered in order to
determine the better serving sub-cells. If this option is not selected, then the sub-cells are
compared on their achieved signal strength only.
Note: This option is only applicable if sub-cells are set to SS mode in the Site Database.
14. If required, select Over-ride the Sub-cell Specific Values for Signal Threshold and TA
Threshold, (these are stored in the Site Database), and specify generic values.
15. If required, select Only consider sub-cells with allocated carriers and optionally specify a
'per carrier' analysis by selecting a particular carrier.
16. Choose whether you want to generate arrays for all the cells at the same time, or per-cell
(each cell in isolation). You can limit per-cell arrays to the extents of the specified region.
Note: If you select all carriers with per-cell arrays, All_Cell_Layers directories are
generated, containing only cells that are configured for multiple cell layers.
17. On the Prediction Parameters page, select Use network element settings or Use
Global Override settings.
If you choose Use network element settings, the creation of arrays is based on the
model, resolution and radius settings on the ENTERPRISE Site Database Antennas tab.
You can choose to use both primary and secondary predictions, specify a resolution at
which the secondary prediction is overlaid, or use the primary prediction only.
If you choose Use Global Override settings, the creation of arrays is based on your
override settings. For more information on these options, see the ASSET User Reference
Guide.
18. Select Allow Radius Truncation, if required. This uses a truncated version of a prediction
file of greater radius, if available, to save processing time.
19. Select Allow Resolution Resampling, if required. This uses a resampled version of a
prediction file of greater resolution, if available, to save processing time.
20. Select the 'Apply smoothing when loading predictions' option if you want bilinear
smoothing to be performed on prediction (pathloss) data when it is used. This helps to
minimise edge effects between a primary and secondary prediction.
21. Click Next.
22. On the Select Tile Parameters page, in the Tile Size field of the Raster Parameters pane,
select a tile size.
This size defines the distance in km that each array file is created for. For example, a tile
size of 30 will create array tiles of 30 x 30 square kms for the entire area of the network you
are using for your predictions.
The number of tiles that will be generated by your choice of tile size and region is shown
below the Tile Size field after you have made an entry in it.
Notes:
o

The number of tiles generated is determined by a complex algorithm which takes into
account the relationships between overlapping cells. This means that the actual tile
size may be greater than the size you specify, which is taken as a starting point. If your
choice of size will produce tiles that are not optimal, such that for example duplicate or
empty tiles will result, a warning message appears.

If you wish to use Distributed Arrays, configure a single ARRAYWIZARD tile.

array type.
31. In the File Name Text field, type the required text component of the file name for output
files from the selected array type. The full file name is made up of the text component
specified here and a data component specified subsequently.
32. If you have selected an output file format of 3GA, you can choose to generate statistics
reports by selecting the Generate array stats option in the Array statistics reports pane.
To determine which details are included in the report:
o

Click the Configure button

Indicate your choices in the resultant Statistics dialog box

Because ARRAYWIZARD uses distributed processing, you will need to add a valid network
path in the Raster file(.tri) field of the Statistics dialog box. For further information on the
parameters in the Statistics dialog box, see the Generating Reports and Statistics chapter
of the ASSET User Reference Guide.
33. If you have chosen to generate statistics reports you must also select the statistics file type
that you require from XLS, text or CSL. The statistics file type that you choose will apply to
all array types.

Adding 2g Simulator Analysis Parameter Sets

2g simulator analysis parameter sets are used to retrieve information from your database which is
needed to create 2g simulator analysis arrays. For more information on planner prerequisites and
the setting of specific parameters see the ASSET User Reference Guide.
Note: Before creating 2g simulator analysis parameter sets, ensure that you have added an agent.
For information on how to do this, see Adding Agents on page 14.
To create a 2g simulator analysis parameter set:
1. In the left hand pane of the main window select 2g Analysis. Right-click and from the menu
that appears, select Add 2g Simulator Analysis.
3. Click Next.
4. Specify the Simulation Resolution, that is, the pixel size at which the simulation will be
performed. You can specify any resolution. The output arrays will be generated at that
requested resolution, using the prediction files at the resolutions specified for the
corresponding network elements in the Site Database (or from the Override option on the
Prediction Parameters page as described later in this procedure). Where the requested
resolution is different, a deterministic conversion process is used.
5. Specify the Number of Covering Cells. This is the number of cells that are considered as
primary covering cells, and interferers. This also enables you to view the corresponding
'Nth Best' array outputs. The recommended minimum is 6, because this provides a high
degree of confidence in the determination of the 'best' serving cell; this has particular
significance at the cell edge. You can specify a lower number if you are prepared to accept
a lower degree of accuracy (lower confidence) in exchange benefits in speed and memory.
Note: You can click the Default button to enable you to select the Allow Terminal Info
Arrays option and to reset the Simulation Resolution and Number of Covering Cells fields
to the defaults of 100 and 6 respectively.
6. Click Next.
7. Select 'Use Priorities & Offsets, SS Mode' if you want the results to take into account any
priorities that have been set in the Cell Layers dialog box, and any signal offsets in the Site
Database, when determining the better serving subcells. If unselected, the best server
results are based on signal strength alone. This option is only applicable when the sub-cells
in the Site Database have been set to SS (Signal Strength) mode, and has no effect for
sub-cells set to PL (Pathloss) mode.
8. Override, if required, the sub-cell specific coverage (TA and Signal) thresholds that are
stored in the Site Database.
9. If required, specify a 'per carrier' analysis by selecting a particular carrier.

30

For more information on the frequency hopping diversity gain value, see the
ASSET User Reference Guide.
The interference array calculations also use a BER to/from C/I conversion when
frequency hopping is used. For more information on using frequency hopping,
see the ASSET User Reference Guide.

Use Frequency
Diversity

You can add a gain to the serving cell signal to simulate the diversity
improvement in C/I, related
to the number of hopping frequencies.

Use DTX

Use DTX information when creating arrays. This means ASSET will scale down
the power of the transmitter based on the activity factor of the terminal. Using
DTX then helps to reduce interference between different cells and to increase
the capacity of the system.

12. Click Next.

13. Select the filters you wish to use and click Next.
14. On the Select Terminal Types page, select the required terminal type(s) and click Next.
Tip: To select all available terminal types, click the Select All button. To deselect them,
click Deselect all.
15. If required, select the Save simulation every option and specify a time interval.
16. Set the Max. Power Change (%) convergence parameter to set the 'stabilisation' target for
each snapshot. This effectively limits the number of iterations per snapshot. If the
percentage change in traffic load (summed over all cells) changes by an amount smaller
than this target value for 15 consecutive iterations, then the iterations are deemed to have
converged
17. Choose to only scan pixels containing traffic, if a valid traffic raster is in memory.
18. If you want to restrict the simulation arrays to one or more vectors, select Use Vectors,
then click Select Vectors, and in the Select Vectors dialog box, select the required
vector(s), and click OK.

Name. To specify details for another array type, pick one from the drop-down list.
22. In the Folder Name field, type your required folder name for output files from the selected
array type.
23. In the File Name Text field, type the required text component of the file name for output
files from the selected array type. The full file name is made up of the text component
specified here and a data component specified subsequently.

36

Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related Planning Data

25. If you have chosen to generate statistics reports you must also select the statistics file type
that you require from XLS, text or CSL. The statistics file type that you choose will apply to
all array types.
28. You may want to use a post processing application to handle your output files. To open
such an application automatically once your output files have been produced, select the
'Run an executable when the parameter set has completed' option.
You can then click the browse button and locate the required executable, or drag the
executable into the specification field. You can also select the 'Only run if no errors were
encountered' option if applicable, and type any parameters applicable to the executable
into the 'Optional command line argument' field.
- or To run the program using the Windows account details that you logged on to this machine
with, select the "Use Interactive user logon account" option. The log on is displayed on
the desktop. If no user is logged on, the scheduler does not run the program.
30. To have all the files in your coverage folder deleted before your arrays are created, select
the appropriate option.
31. Click Next.
32. The Summary page shows the input parameters that you have set and the amount of
memory needed to generate your arrays. If you wish to change any of these you can use
the Back button to access the appropriate page.
33. Click on the Auto Setup Configuration button, and in the dialog box that appears, select
the Array Parameters and Array Types that you want to exclude from your arrays.
Notes:
o

It is important that you do this, because the default settings will produce a lot of arrays
and may take a very long time.

For an array to be generated, you must include the relevant array dependencies from
this dialog box. For more information, see "Static Simulation Documents" in the ASSET
User Reference Guide.

You can make selections from both the Array Parameters and Array Types lists and
the filters will act in combination.

35. Click Finish. Your parameter set is listed in the right hand pane of the main window and is
ready to be run manually or when specified by the scheduler:

To run a parameter set manually see Starting and Stopping Parameter Sets on page 62.

Adding 3g Signal Coverage Analysis Parameter Sets

3g signal coverage analysis parameter sets are used to retrieve information from your database
which is needed to create 3g signal coverage analysis arrays. You can create 3g signal coverage
analysis arrays for UMTS and for CDMA2000. For more information on planner prerequisites and
the setting of specific parameters see the ASSET User Reference Guide.
Note: Before creating 3g signal coverage analysis parameter sets, ensure you have added an
agent. For information on how to do this, see Adding Agents on page 14.
To create a 3g signal coverage analysis parameter set:
1. In the left hand pane of the main window select 3g Analysis. Right-click and from the menu
that appears, point to Add 3g Signal Coverage Analysis and then click either UMTS or
CDMA2000.
Note: If you have not yet opened a project, a message appears, asking if you wish to open
one. Click Yes and in the Start Project window, select the required project and click Start.
2. On the Select View page that appears, type in the co-ordinates for the area of your
network view containing the sites you wish to predict.
- or
If you are displaying the sites in the Map View window, click Select View to use the view
currently selected.
3. Click Next.
4. Select the filters you wish to use and click Next.
5. Where applicable use any available options to indicate the terminal types that you wish to
include in your analysis.
6. Click Next.
7. Select the carrier to be displayed.
8. Select whether or not to output the DL Loss or Indoor arrays (if not needed, they should be
excluded).
9. Select which array to display (Best DL Cell by RSCP or Best RSCP.
10. Specify the resolution of the array. You can specify any resolution. The output arrays will be
generated at that requested resolution, using the prediction files at the resolutions specified
for the corresponding network elements in the Site Database (or from the Override option in
the Array Settings dialog box). A deterministic conversion process is used where
necessary.

38

Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related Planning Data

11. Specify the 'Max Nth Required' value according to the number of server layers you want to
display.
Note: Do not set this value to a greater number than the Nth layer that you wish to see
(there is no need for any 'extra margin').
12. If you want to restrict the coverage arrays to one or more vectors, select the Use Vectors
checkbox, then click Select Vectors, and in the Select Vectors dialog box, select the
required vector(s), and click OK.
13. Choose whether you want to generate arrays for all the cells at the same time, or per-cell
(each cell in isolation). You can limit per-cell arrays to the extents of the specified region.
Note: No all carrier folder is generated for 3g per-cell arrays.
Guide.
15. Select Allow Radius Truncation, if required. This uses a truncated version of a prediction
file of greater radius, if available, to save processing time.
16. Select Allow Resolution Resampling, if required. This uses a resampled version of a
prediction file of greater resolution, if available, to save processing time.
17. Select the 'Apply smoothing when loading predictions' option if you want bilinear
smoothing to be performed on prediction (pathloss) data when it is used. This helps to
minimise edge effects between a primary and secondary prediction.
18. Click Next.

20. In the Cell Identifier for Reports and Exports pane, select the elements that will comprise
the identity.
21. In the Thresholds pane, select a percentage value above which you deem the coverage
reliability to be adequate. You can also set a cut-off distance if required.

24. Click Next.
25. On the Select Outputs page, select the file format(s) that your arrays will be saved in. If
you select 3GA, the DAT option is selected automatically. This is because when loading the
ARRAYWIZARD index file into ASSET, DAT files are required.
26. In the Array specific pane you can specify the folder name and file name text for each
array type. The name of the currently selected array type is displayed above the Folder
Name. To specify details for another array type, pick one from the drop-down list.
27. In the Folder Name field, type your required folder name for output files from the selected
array type.
28. In the File Name Text field, type the required text component of the file name for output
files from the selected array type. The full file name is made up of the text component
specified here and a data component specified subsequently.

30. If you have chosen to generate statistics reports you must also select the statistics file type
that you require from XLS, text or CSL. The statistics file type that you choose will apply to
all array types.
31. If more than one tile results from your settings in the Tile Size field as described earlier in
this procedure, and you have chosen to generate statistics reports, a merged file based on
the tiles is created for the purpose of generating the statistics.
Select the Save resultant merged file option to keep this merged file for use in
ENTERPRISE.
32. The file names for your array output files will comprise a data related element and a text
element. You can choose the order in which these elements appear. The data element can
be created from the region and resolution, an incrementing number (that is, a number which
increases with each file created), or an incrementing number and the resolution. In the
Naming convention for file name data pane, select the type of data element and the
order of text and data that you require.

override settings. For more information on these options, see the ASSET User Reference
Guide.
There are two extra 'time-saving' options, regarding the radius and resolution of the
predictions:
o

Allow Radius Truncation

Allow Resolution Re-sampling

These options are available whether you have chosen Use network element settings or
Use Global Override Settings. They offer the chance to reinterpret existing prediction files
to save time on the prediction calculation. For more information on these options, see the
ASSET User Reference Guide.
5. Select the Apply smoothing when loading Predictions option if you want bilinear
smoothing to be performed on prediction (pathloss) data when it is used. This helps to
minimise edge effects between a primary and secondary prediction.
6. Use the option provided to indicate whether or not you wish to force reprediction. In most
situations, due to the recognition capabilities of the prediction system, this is unnecessary.
However there may be a situation where you know that the predictions are out-of-date, but
the prediction system considers them to be up-to-date. Such a circumstance might be, for
example, when you know that changes have been made to the underlying map data used
by the project.
7. Click Next.
8. On the Select Schedule page, indicate whether you wish to run your parameter set
manually or every:
o

so many minutes

so many days at a specified time

Creating Interference Analysis Parameter Sets

Interference analysis parameter sets are used to retrieve information from your database, which is
needed to create interference analysis arrays. For more information on the setting and use of
specific parameters see the ASSET User Reference Guide.
Note: Before creating interference analysis parameter sets, ensure you have added an agent. For
more information see Adding Agents on page 14.
To create an interference analysis parameter set:
1. In the left hand pane of the main window right-click on Interference Analysis and from the
menu that appears, select Add Interference Analysis.
Note: If you have not yet opened a project, a message appears, asking if you wish to open
one. Click Yes and in the Start Project window, select the required project and click Start.
2. On the Select Filters page, choose the filters you wish to use.
3. Click Next.
4. On the Interference Parameters page, on the Best Server Parameters tab, in the Select
a Technology pane, select the technology type that you require such as GSM, LTE,or
Mobile WiMAX. The technology types available depend on what you are licensed to use.
5. On the Interference Parameters page, on the Best Server Parameters tab, in the Best
Server Options pane, set the:
o

Reference LTE Carrier (if you have selected LTE as the technology type).

RSRP Threshold or Preamble RSS Threshold (if you have selected LTE or Mobile
WiMAX as the technology type, respectively).

Best Server Margin. This enables you to extend the potential best server area, by
allowing pixels where the victim cell's carrier is not the 'best server' to be considered
as such (provided that it is within the specified margin).

Maximum Number of Potential Best Servers. This limits the number of cells which can
be considered as best servers at each pixel, and can save processing time.

Resolution. If you are including traffic data, you must have at least one traffic array file
and its resolution must be the same as the resolution that you specify here. The traffic
array can be the same size or larger (but not smaller) than the region you have
selected.

6. On the Interference Parameters tab you can:

52

Set an Adjacent Channel Offset.

Set a Maximum Relative RX Level Margin. A cell can only be considered as an

interferer if the signal difference is less than or equal to this value.

Select 'Use traffic files', if required, and choose which traffic arrays to include (this
option is only active if one or more array files is in use).

Select the Interference Probability method.

Creating Predictions, Arrays, and Location-Related Planning Data

are using for your predictions.
The number of tiles that will be generated by your choice of tile size and region is shown
below the Tile Size field after you have made an entry in it.
Note: The number of tiles generated is determined by a complex algorithm which takes
into account the relationships between overlapping cells. This means that the actual tile
size may be greater than the size you specify, which is taken as a starting point. If your
choice of size will produce tiles that are not optimal, such that for example duplicate or
empty tiles will result, a warning message appears.
19. In the Naming convention pane, select the elements that will comprise the file name.

4. On the Simulation Parameters page edit the defaults as required. This table describes the
LTE simulation parameters:
Simulation
Parameter

Description

Comment

Identifies the user who created this LTE simulation and the host it was
created on.

Simulation Resolution

The pixel size at which the simulation will be performed.

You can specify any resolution. The output arrays will be generated at that
requested resolution, using the prediction files at the resolutions specified
for the corresponding network elements in the Site Database (or from the
Override option on the Prediction Parameters page - see step 12).
Where the requested resolution is different, a deterministic conversion
process is used.

Number of Covering
Cells

The number of cells that are considered as primary covering cells, and
interferers. This also enables you to view the corresponding 'Nth Best' array
outputs.
The recommended minimum is 6, because this provides a high degree of
confidence in the determination of the 'best' serving cell; this has particular
significance at the cell edge. You can specify a lower number if you are
prepared to accept a lower degree of accuracy (lower confidence) in
exchange benefits in speed and memory.

Interference Threshold

The simulation outputs an array that shows the average number of cell
interferers at any location. This is determined by this threshold (xdB).
The exact definition of cell interferers for LTE in ASSET is:
The number of servers with an RSRP value within xdB of the RSRP value
of the Best Server. The threshold is relative. The default value is 6dB.

Intra-Site Correlation
Coefficient

The correlation between fades (for a terminal) to cells on the same site.

Setting UTM Borders

Best server files are generated for tiles even when the tiles overlap a UTM border. When the Best
Server data is merged in a tool such as MapInfo, the merged data contains overlapping best server
data sets from each UTM zone. Consequently some areas appear to have more than one Best
Serving Cell.
To prevent this you can specify the westmost and the eastmost longitude bounds of a project. This
ensures that each tile generated in a UTM zone that overlaps a UTM border is reduced so that only
the portion of the tile within the UTM zone has a best server file calculated. All tiles will then contain
best server data only for the UTM zone in which they were calculated.
To set UTM Borders:
1. From the Project Settings menu, click UTM Borders.
2. Select the Use UTM border settings option.
3. Enter West Meridian and East Meridian values in degrees to define your UTM border:

Configuring Measurement Based Prediction and Interpolation

If you have generated measurement-based pathloss files from your own drive test data (or other
area and cell-specific data), you can use these files to influence your normal pathloss predictions.
The amount of influence they have depends primarily on the percentage weightings that you
specify in the Measurements dialog box.

Representative illustration of Combining Predicted Data with Measured Data

To influence the normal pathloss predictions:

1. From the Project Settings menu, select Measurements Settings. The Measurements
dialog box appears.
2. Select the Use Measurements in Pathloss Predictions option
3. Enter appropriate percentage weightings, as in this example:

The resulting pathloss value for each pixel that contains measurement-based data would be a new
combined value derived from the Measured value and the Predicted value, according to the
weightings you specify.
So, for each pixel, the resulting pathloss value is:
w% of Measurement value + (100-w)% of Prediction value
Important: These weightings (and any changes to them) will be automatically invoked whenever
you create a coverage/interference array, or when you run the Simulator, or when you use the
Pathloss Prediction Generator.
Note: If weightings are selected without interpolation, the weightings will only be used at pixels for
which measurement data exists. The pathloss value for any pixels where this is not the case will be
calculated using 100% pathloss prediction.
80

Configuring Settings In ARRAYWIZARD

If you have selected to use measurements to influence pathloss predictions, you can also choose
to use interpolation to influence surrounding pixels that do not contain measurement-based data.

Representative illustration of Combining Predicted Data with Measured Data using Interpolation

To do this:
1. Select the Interpolate option.
2. Enter your preferred Roll-off Factor.
The difference ( ) between the Measurement value and Prediction value is used to influence the
surrounding pixels. The Roll-off factor, which must be greater than 1, determines the rate at which
the value of reduces as it moves from directly adjacent pixels to more distant pixels. The pixels
which already contain measurement data are not affected by this interpolation.
The resulting pathloss value for each surrounding pixel is:
w% of Measurement value + (100-w)% of Prediction value
where the interpolated Measurement value is derived from an adjusted , derived from the
formula:

adjacentpixel

1 n

n i 1 i

Where:

n = Number of adjacent pixels that contain measurement data (between 1 and 4)

= Difference between the Measurement value* and Prediction value

* (real or interpolated)

= Count of each adjacent pixel (up to maximum of 4)

= Roll-Off Factor specified (must be greater than 1)

These weightings (and any changes to them) will be automatically invoked whenever you create a
coverage/interference array, or when you run the Simulator, or when you use the Pathloss
Prediction Generator.
Note: If weightings AND interpolation are selected, the weightings and roll-off factor will be invoked
at all pixels within the predicted region, including those that do not contain a pathloss prediction
value. However, the pixels which already contain measurement data are not affected by
interpolation.

2. In the Configure ARRAYWIZARD Agents dialog box, click Apply.

Controlling the Scheduler

The ARRAYWIZARD Scheduler runs as a Windows service called
ARRAYWIZARD_Scheduler_Service_9.0 which starts automatically once ARRAYWIZARD has
been installed. The ENTERPRISE Super User can:

View the scheduler log

Add and drop user schemas to and from the database to which ARRAYWIZARD is
connected

Stop and start the scheduler

Change the password for the Scheduler internal account

Specify a user account against which to run a post parameter set processing executable or
a batch file

For more information on ENTERPRISE user types, see the ENTERPRISE Installation and
Administration Guide.
To open the Scheduler Control dialog box:
From the Tools menu, click Scheduler Control.
To display the scheduler log:
In the Scheduler Control dialog box, click View Log. When the log file reaches a size of
100Mb or an age of 168 hours (that is, one week) it is backed up to a file with the suffix .lo_
and a new log file is started. The .lo_ file is overwritten whenever a backup takes place.

Configuring Settings In ARRAYWIZARD

The ENTERPRISE Super User can allow more than one administrator (Regional Super User or
Power User) to schedule jobs in the same database by creating a user schema for each
administrator. When this is done:

The default ARRAYWIZARD schema can be used by any administrator whereas a user
schema can only be used by the administrator for whom it was created.

Any parameter sets that are stored in a user schema will only be visible to that
administrator and the Super User.

There can only ever be one default schema but there can be multiple user schemas.

Each agent machine can only work with one schema. If you are using two user schemas
then you will need at least two agent machines available.

To add a user schema, having logged in as the Super User:

1. In the Scheduler Control dialog box, click Schemas.
2. In the New Schema field, type the name of an existing administrator user that you have
created in ENTERPRISE Administrator.
3. Click Create Schema. The new schema name is added to the Active Schemas panel:

It also becomes available for selection in the Filter Schema drop-down list:

When the relevant administrator next logs in to ARRAYWIZARD, the user schema will be
available for selection.
To drop a user schema, having logged in as the Super User:
1. In the Scheduler Control dialog box, click Schemas.
2. In the Active Schemas panel, select the schema to be dropped.
3. Click Drop Schema. The schema is removed from the Active Schemas panel and from
the Filter Schema drop-down list. It will not subsequently be available to the administrator
for whom it was created.
To start scheduling on all active schemas, having logged in as the Super User:
In the Scheduler Control dialog box, click Start Scheduling.
To stop scheduling on all active schemas, having logged in as the Super User:
In the Scheduler Control dialog box, click Stop Scheduling.
Important: If you are unable to start scheduling, this may be because Oracle 11g has expired the
Scheduler internal account. To remedy this, you can change the password, but you should only do
so if absolutely necessary.

To change the password, having logged in as the Super User and stopped scheduling:
1. In the Scheduler Control dialog box, click Change Password. The Change Scheduler
Password dialog box appears.
2. Type and confirm the new password, then click OK. You can revert to the default password
by clicking the Reset to default button.
3. When you have finished using the Scheduler Control dialog box, click OK to close it.
4. Shut down and re-start all administrator, agent and relevant windows services to make the
password change effective.
To specify a user account against which to run a post parameter set processing executable
or a batch file:
1. In the Scheduler Control dialog box, click Postprocess Account.
2. In the Specify account details dialog box, type the Windows Domain Name, Windows
User Name and Password of the user account for which the post processing is required.
3. Click OK.
To close the Scheduler Control dialog box when you have finished with it:
Click OK.

Optimizing Performance
If you create and run a large number of different parameter sets (rather than the same ones
repeatedly), the index.txt file in the coverage array folder may become large and slow
ARRAYWIZARD down. Consequently you may want to delete the file occasionally when
ARRAYWIZARD is not running.
To find the location of your coverage array folder:
1. If you have a project open, close it.
2. From the File menu, select Open Project.
3. In the Start Project dialog box, select the required project and click the Info button.
4. Click the User data directories tab and look in the Coverage Array directory field:

Troubleshooting Message Logs

ARRAYWIZARD 9.0 is UAC (User Access Control) compliant and you should ensure that log files
are saved to the default location specified in the Current Logs folder field of the Configure
ARRAYWIZARD Agents dialog box. For more information, see Configuring Agents on page 17. If
log files are saved to a different location, errors may result.
If you are using Windows 7, set the User Account Control slider to 'Never notify'.
To do this:
1. From your Windows Control Panel, select User Accounts.
2. Click Change User Account Control settings.
3. Move the slider to the bottom.
If you are using Windows server 2012 or Windows 8.1 you must also make a change to the
Windows Registry.
To do this:
1. Using Regedit, find location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\syste
m.
2. Change the value of EnableLUA from 1 to 0 as shown in this example:

3. Click OK
4. Restart your machine.
