Reading Valley of Vision has been a great help to me. The
content of these prayers reflect the spiritual hunger that
exists in all of our souls. The heart cries of saints who have
gone before us have often become my own and have given
me truths to meditate on throughout the day. -Pastor Andrew

In John 11:28-37 we learn how Jesus sees death. As we

enter a new year consider how you can grow in your
Christlikeness by 1) weeping with those who weep 2) hating sin that ultimately causes death. What does it look like
in your life to increase in these areas?

The Psalms are some of the oldest songs around. Psalm

98:1 says, Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has
done marvelous things. Notice the reasoning there. God
has done marvelous and not just a long time ago. God
has done marvelous things in your life, recently.Because
his mercies are new every morning, (Jer 3:23), we are
constantly searching for new ways to express our gratitude. Songs are one of those ways we express thanks
and praise. Let there be new melodies for new mercies.
We are reminded by the Psalmsto sing to him a new
song (Ps 33:3), and so we say to one another, Oh sing
to the Lord a new song (Ps 96:1) and we say to the Lord,
I will sing a new song to you, O God (Ps 144:9). Here in
the Psalms,we see a divine mandate, a command,that
we not onlysing songs, but that we should also seek to
sing new songs. May the marvelous things that he has
done constantly inspire in our hearts new and creative
chords and melodies and lyrics to sing to our God. He is
worthy.

Tuesday

Thursday

In James 1:1 we read that James, the half-brother of Jesus, calls himself a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus
Christ. This is also seen in Romans 1:1 where Paul writes
that he is a servant of Christ Jesus. In regards to servant John MacArthur writes:
Although in Greek culture it most often referred to the involuntary, permanent service of a slave, Paul elevates this
word by using it in its Hebrew sense to describe a servant
who willingly commits himself to serve a master he loves
and respects.
Pray and thank the Lord for a Master to whom the believer
can willingly commit themselves to as a servant of Jesus
Christ.

Even as Paul prayed for the Thessalonians, may we also

pray. Let his words to them help our meditations as we
think about New Years. To this end we always pray for
you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and
may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith
by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be
glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of
our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 1:1112) What resolves for good have you made recently? New
Years is a good opportunity for this biblical practice. How
will your resolves for good drive your work of faith in 2017?
And how will you pray, knowing that it is God who fulfills
those resolves by His power?
