1.A NEW
COLLECTION
SURFACES
THE SEAMASTER PLANET OCEAN 600M
MASTER CHRONOMETER
Within the deep blue waters of Earth, OMEGA has always
found both inspiration and opportunity. In 2005, after
decades of experience above and below the waves, we
looked to the true legends of ocean exploration to help
us create the Planet Ocean collection. This original line of
diving timepieces was made in the spirit of pioneers such
as William Beebe, Jacques Cousteau and Jacques Mayol,
who all sported an OMEGA divers watch on their wrist.

Already a highly functional and stylish tool on land and at

sea, OMEGA is proud to now introduce the next generation
of this popular collection. In these 38 new models, you will
see that we have used all of our most innovative materials
and production processes to completely revolutionise the
design. Even more impressive is the Master Chronometer
rating that now accompanies every model. Certified at
the industrys highest level for precision and performance,
todays Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer is
navigating new waters in watchmaking excellence.

However, the Planet Ocean watches go much deeper

than inspiration.

2.OMEGAS
OCEAN
HERITAGE
The Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master
Chronometer is a watch that is backed by
OMEGAs credible history at sea. In fact, our
watches have been worn by some of the boldest
adventurers and explorers of the modern age.
In these 10 highlights throughout time, you can
begin to understand the foundation on which
the Planet Ocean has been built.

1936
THE CHOICE OF
WILLIAM BEEBE
Charles William Beebe was the American naturalist,
zoologist and explorer who conceived and created
the bathysphere, a spherical diving vessel that
could transport humans to the depths of the ocean.
He was also a great believer in his OMEGA Marine.
In 1936, after successfully taking it to a depth of 14
m in the Pacific Ocean, Beebe remarked that the
watch represented a true progress for watchmaking
science.

1932
THE OMEGA
MARINE
The OMEGA Marine became the first commerciallyavailable divers watch in the world. The design
was characterised by its removable double case in
stainless steel or gold and was considered at the time
to be one of the best water-resistant wristwatches
ever produced. The watch was tested by OMEGA in
Lake Geneva at a depth of 73 m and then again by
the Swiss Laboratory of Watchmaking Research at
an artificial depth of 135 m. On both occasions, the
Marine emerged triumphant and perfectly intact.

1957
THE BIRTH OF THE
OMEGA SEAMASTER
The OMEGA Seamaster 300, a watch designed
especially for professional and amateur divers, was
launched in 1957. Those who wore it underwater
enthusiastically remarked on its robustness, precision
and reliability. These traits would also become useful
for the divers of the British Royal Navy who chose the
Seamaster 300 as their preferred watch.

1968
OMEGA
AND COMEX

1970
THE PLOPROF AND
JACQUES COUSTEAU

OMEGA teamed up with COMEX in 1968, a French

underwater research company that aimed to solve the
problems that occurred when diving at great depths.
From their experimentation centre, two COMEX
divers, each wearing Seamaster 300s, established
a world record of simulated diving at 365 m. The
two organisations continued to work together for a
number of years.

Carved from one block of steel, equipped with

immensely strong tempered glass and built with a
twin-locking crown, the OMEGA Seamaster 600
was released in 1970 to withstand the extreme
pressures of the ocean. Nicknamed the Ploprof, the
watch was immediately used by the famous French
oceanographer Jacques Cousteau during a series
of experiments in the Red Sea to test mans physical
and psychological capacities when working at great
depths.

1993
THE SEAMASTER
PROFESSIONAL 300M
OMEGA made a strong return to divers watches in
1993 with the release of the Seamaster Professional
300M a series that contained the worlds first
mechanical chronograph-chronometer with pushers
that remained operational to a depth of 300 m. With
its timeless and sporty look, the Seamaster Diver 300M
became a true diving classic which complements any
wardrobe - or wet suit.

1981
DOLPHIN
MAN
The OMEGA Seamaster 120M was on the wrist of
Jacques Mayol when he set a new world record free
dive of 101 m in 1981. The ultra-flat deluxe divers
watch was the perfect tool for the man nicknamed
Dolphin Man, who later spoke about the vital
importance of having precise timing instruments in
such critically dangerous conditions.

2005
CREATING THE
PLANET OCEAN
The first Planet Ocean 600M models were released in
2005, all equipped with OMEGAs revolutionary CoAxial movements. The watches blurred the boundaries
between fashion and functionality while also making
use of OMEGAs vast experience in divers watch
technology.

1995
A PARTNERSHIP WITH
SIR PETER BLAKE
Round-the-world skipper and legend of Team New
Zealands Americas Cup campaigns, Sir Peter
Blake became an OMEGA ambassador in 1995.
Along with his racing prowess, he was also deeply
committed to the protection of the sea. Blake later
established an environmental organisation called
Blakexpeditions and acquired a rugged 36 m / 120
ft. expedition-style boat which he called Seamaster.

2011
OMEGA AND
GOODPLANET
OMEGAs connection to the sea has made the
brand acutely aware of how fragile our planet is.
To help protect our oceans for the future, OMEGA
joined with the GoodPlanet Foundation in 2011
and immediately began taking action. The awardwinning Planet Ocean documentary was released
in 2012 followed by two Time for the Planet
projects in Indonesia the following year.

3.ESSENTIAL
FEATURES OF A
DIVERS WATCH
WATER RESISTANT
For a divers watch to remain water resistant at depth, it must survive crushing pressures.
At OMEGA, we test our divers watches in water at a minimum depth of 30 bar (300 m/
1000 ft) depending on the model. However, the Planet Ocean is water resistant up to 60 bar
(600 m/2000 ft).

HELIUM ESCAPE VALVE

When working at great depths, professional divers stay in a diving bell and breathe a
mixture of gases containing a high proportion of Helium (He). The escape valve prevents
helium molecules, which expand during decompression, from popping the crystal face and
caseback of the watch. On the Planet Ocean, the He escape valve, located at 10 oclock,
is operated manually.

11

THE UNIDIRECTIONAL
ROTATING BEZEL
The Planet Oceans unidirectional 60min diving bezel makes it easy for a diver to measure
elapsed time, while preventing them from accidentally rotating it the wrong way and
miscalculating their dive time.

LUMINESCENT HANDS,
INDEXES AND DOT
Underwater, it can go from daylight to dark in an instant, so the different hands on the
watch must be clearly distinguishable and the display uncomplicated and easy-to-read.
With its green luminescent dot on the bezel and matching minute hand, the Planet Ocean
allows the diver to check the time at a glance. To make the reading even clearer, all other
hands and indexes are in contrasting luminescent blue.

SHOCK & SCRATCH RESISTANT

Diving is filled with unforeseen hazards, especially when exploring caves, shipwrecks
and reefs. OMEGAs NIVACHOC system protects the watchs regulatory organ, so that
it remains functional even if knocked against hard surfaces. Protecting the dial is the
scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. On Planet Ocean diving watches, bezels are now made
of robust ceramic.

12

EXTENDABLE METAL BRACELET

A divers watch must fit tightly around the wrist, so its crucial that the bracelet extends to
make extra room for the thickness of the diving suit. On the Planet Ocean this flexibility is
made possible by the patented rack-and-pusher with extra diver extension.

ANTIMAGNETIC
Magnetic forces in electronic devices used on land, on deck and even under the sea,
can throw a divers timepiece out of synch. Whats more, diving equipment often includes
magnetic devices. So it is a force that must be resisted. The Planet Ocean is resistant to
forces of 15.000 gauss, substantially greater than the industry minimum, which is 60 gauss.

PUSHERS THAT WORK PERFECTLY

UNDERWATER
A pusher needs to work perfectly at depth, without letting water into the watch.
This technological challenge has been met head-on by OMEGA.
All pushers on our divers chronographs are completely functional underwater.

4.THE NEW
PLANET OCEAN
600M MASTER
CHRONOMETER
For the new generation of Planet Ocean models, OMEGA
has used many of its most innovative modern materials.
Firstly, ceramic has been used to create the dials and
bezels of almost all models. Liquidmetal has been used
for enduring strength and beauty for the diving scales,
while 18K Sedna gold, used for the first time in the
Planet Ocean collection, delivers a long-lasting reddish
tone. Finally, OMEGA Ceragold allows the blending of
the ceramic bezels with 18K gold numbers and scaling.
Attached to these new cases, the straps and bracelets
have also been redesigned. The traditional metal bracelet
has been integrated slightly differently to the case so that
it sits and looks better on the wrist. There are also new

14

rubber straps that have been designed to look like fabric.

They have been given an anti-bacterial treatment and
are perfect for taking underwater. Similarly, the waterresistant leather straps of the collection have an antibacterial rubber underside for comfort and functionality.
Other subtle differences include new Arabic numerals, a
new alveol screw-in caseback, a new transferred minutes
track, and the Master Chronometer certification that
accompanies every model. To achieve this high standard
of precision, performance and magnetic resistance, the
watches have all passed the 8 rigorous tests set by the
Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

THE PLANET OCEAN

45.5MM CHRONOGRAPH
The bold Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer
Chronographs have been built to truly stand out. The
polished ceramic dials are black or blue and the cases
make use of stainless steel and 18K Sedna gold. On
the inside, the watches are powered by the new Master
Chronometer calibre 9900 / 9901.
On several models, rubber has also been blended
with ceramic for the first time to create a unique and
captivating bezel. This colourful innovation can be seen
covering the first 15 minutes. For divers sinking below the
waves, it is a helpful safety tool.
Finally, there is also a model created with a grade 5
titanium case, a grey silicon nitride-rubber ring and a
sand-blasted grade 5 titanium dial.

THE PLANET OCEAN

43.5MM GMT
This timepiece, with its black ceramic dial, features the
worlds premiere polished bi-ceramic black and white
bezel ring. The bezel of this model is also bidirectional.
The numerals and scaling have been produced in
contrasting colours to separate night from day, while
the Master Chronometer calibre 8906 drives the watch.

THE PLANET OCEAN

43.5MM GENTS
COLLECTION
The gents models offer ceramic dials in black or blue.
Most cases are built from stainless steel, however one
version with a blue dial has been crafted in 18K Sedna
gold.
Similar to the chronograph models, the gents collection
also includes several new models that feature the
innovative ceramic and rubber bezel ring. There is also
a grade 5 titanium model that features the same rubber
technology on its grey silicon nitride bezel ring. For this
version, the dial is sand-blasted grade 5 titanium.

and 37.5 mm versions. The dials and bezels are offered
in black, blue or white ceramic, and each watch is
powered by the OMEGA Master Chronometer calibre
8800 / 8801.
For most models, the cases are crafted from stainless
steel, although one version with its white ceramic dial
also includes the use of 18K Sedna gold.
Finally, there is a unique 18K Sedna gold model that
features a chocolate brown ceramic bezel and dial.
