Editorial
By the time this issue reaches the hands of our esteemed readers, the festival of
lights will have gone by and the ring of New Year bells would be in the breeze. In
terms of thought, action and spirituality this is perhaps, the most blessed time
of the year, soaked in hope and high spirits. The celebration of Diwali is an
expression of the innate human desire for progress and prosperity with a strong
belief in divine intervention for success.
On this note, the editorial team of Hamara EIL wishes every member of the EIL
Parivaar a very bright and joyful journey along with the organization, illuminated
with the shining luster of brilliance, all reflected from the sheer hard work of its
dedicated officers.
Looking back at the quarter that was, we have definitely inched forward, as is
evident from the sections on New Beginnings ,the Taste of Success and special
features in this issue. This cup is brimming with news on awards, individual
achievements, training & development and Company representation in a vibrant
spectrum of events. Our dynamic leadership has steered us well in the sea of
business tumult we could all, but manage to confine the magnanimous essence
of that motivational leadership in a few words.
Assertively, inches do need to be converted to miles today. Let us hope to grow by
leaps and bounds in the present quarter and those to come. As the year draws to
a close, it is time to ponder and evaluate our progress, resolving to scale greater
heights tomorrow.

Dear Shareholders,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend a warm welcome to all of the you
on this proud milestone- The 50 Annual General Meeting of your Company. It is
my pleasure and privilege to address you for the first time since taking over as the C&MD of EIL in June this
year and share with you the highlights of the previous year's performance, strategic outlook and future
roadmap of your company.
With your kind permission, I take the Annual Report containing the Audited Accounts, the Directors' Report
and the Auditors' Report which has already been circulated to you, as read.
Your company's formidable track record of five decades across the hydrocarbon value chain continues to
inspire its workforce to deliver excellence and to work towards long term sustainable growth of your
company. To commemorate the golden journey of your company's glorious achievements
a'Commemorative Postage Stamp' and 'Coffee Table Book' were released by Shri Narendra Modi, the
Hon'ble Prime Minister of India during Urja Sangam - an International Energy Summit, which was organized
in New Delhi on March 27, 2015 under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. During this
financial year, your company was also accorded the coveted 'Navratna' status by the Government of India.
Economic Environment and Outlook
It was a very challenging year for the world
economy. Geo-political tensions in Ukraine and the
Middle East and the debt-repayment crisis in
Greece dominated the world economic climate. In
spite of these adverse conditions, according to the
World Economic Outlook, the global economy
maintained its growth rate of 3.4% in 2014. The
year also saw the Chinese economy slowing to its
lowest growth rate in the last 30 years to 7.4 per
cent. According to IMF, the global economy is
projected to grow at 3.5% and 3.8% in 2015 and
2016, respectively.
In India, 2014 was a year that saw the new
government take bold and directional steps by way
of major structural reforms. The economy is now
getting back on a growth track. Country's GDP as
per Central Statistics Organization, grew at 7.3 % in
FY2015 compared to 6.9 % in FY 2014. For the first
time, the Indian economy crossed the threshold
US$ 2 trillion mark in FY 2015.

Looking ahead, the Indian economy is set for a


sustained and steady growth. World Bank as well
as IMF have forecast the Indian economy to grow at
more than 7.5 % during the next two years. With
initiatives like MAKE IN INDIA and DIGITAL INDIA,
the government has signaled its intent to place
India back on the global manufacturing and digital
map.

The Board of Directors have recommended a


final dividend of ` 2/- per share (of face value of
` 5/- per share) for the year 2014-15. This is in
addition to the interim dividend of ` 3/- per
share already paid during the year. This amounts
to a total dividend of ` 5/- per share for the year
2014-15. The payment of the final dividend is,
however, subject to approval of the shareholders.

your Company secured a total of ` 2305 crore worth
of new business in the year 2014-15. Of this,
business worth ` 610 crore has been from domestic

In the upstream segment your company secured
Project Management consultancy for Mangala
Phase II EOR, Project and FEED for Bhagyam Polymer
EOR Project for Cairn India Limited.
In the midstream segment, your company secured
PMC Services for Assessment of Health / Integrity
of GAIL's Pipeline System, EPCM Services for rerouting
of Mumbai-Manmad Pipeline for BPCL.
In downstream refining & petrochemical segment
major orders secured by your Company were
DHDT Unit of BPCL Mumbai; Consultancy services
for IOCL's Delayed Coker Unit & allied facilities at
Haldia. Your Company further augmented its foray
into the LNG sector with the award of FEED for LNG
Terminal at Village Chhara, Dist. Gir, Somnath,
Gujarat for HPCL Shapoorji Energy Limited (HSEL).
In the Infrastructure field, your Company was
awarded Projects from Indian Rare Earths Limited
(IREL), Orissa for consultancy services for 5.0 MLD
Sea Water Desalination Plant and DPR for
Abatement of pollution in Buddha Nala in
Ludhiana City from Punjab Water Supply &
Sewerage Board. Your Company also secured
business in the new diversified areas including a
Pre-Feasibility Study for Coal to Poly Generation
Project at Mundra; Petcoke Gasification Feasibility
Study report for NFL- Nangal.
In LSTK domain, your Company was successful in
securing an OBE assignment from ONGC in Hazira
under their Daman Development Project.
Overseas Business

The year 2014-15 saw a considerable increase in


overseas order booking which touched ` 1253
crores. EPCM/PMC assignment for a Grassroot
460,000 BPD Refinery and 600,000 TPA
Polypropylene Plant for M/s Dangote Oil Refining
Company in Nigeria is, as on date, the largest value
consultancy order received by your Company.
Your Company also secured Consultancy Services
assignment for Lobito Refinery Project of
Sonangol E.P. in Angola and PMC assignment for a
Fertilizer Project of M/s Brass in Nigeria. In Oman
your Company was appointed PMC by ORPIC for
an Integrated Petrochemical Complex near Sohar
Refinery and for RFCC Revamp and various units
Improvement works at Sohar Refinery. UAE has
been a very consistent market for your Company.
To expand its business prospects in UAE, your
company has expanded its existing engineering
office there. This has started yielding positive results.

The year saw a number of critical projects


commissioned and good progress achieved on
other ongoing projects. In the Refinery Segment,
EIL successfully completed Mangalore Refinery
Phase-III Expansion by commissioning the PFCC,
Polypropylene, Sulphur Recovery and Delayed
Coker Units. EIL also successfully commissioned
the largest WAX unit of the country (~50 TMTPA) at
Numaligarh Refinery of NRL. Integrated Refinery
Expansion Project of BPCL Kochi Refinery, Residue
Upgradation Project at CPCL Refinery, CDU 4 unit
of BPCL and other projects are also progressing well.
In Petrochemical sector, your company achieved
Mechanical completion of GAIL's Petrochemical
Expansion Projects at Pata & Vijaipur. Both
complexes are under commissioning. During the
year, Your Company also achieved mechanical
completion of Assam Gas Cracker Project of BCPL.
Pre-commissioning activities are also under
progress at OPAL's grass root mega Petrochemical
Project at Dahej. Your Company also successfully
commissioned Butene-1 unit of IOCL Panipat Refinery,
executed on Open Book Estimate (OBE) Basis.

In Upstream sector, GSPC's Offshore Gas Platform


at Deen Dayal field in the Krishna-Godavari basin
as well as connecting Onshore Gas Terminal
achieved Mechanical completion. Major facilities
in OGT were also commissioned during the year.
In Fertilizer segment, EIL is executing three major
international projects in Nigeria, Indonesia and
Bangladesh. All these assignments achieved
encouraging progress during the year. Your
Company is also undertaking a strategic investment
in the form of equity participation in Revival of
Ramagundam Fertilizer Project along with NFL and
FCIL . A joint venture company (M/s Ramagundam
Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited) has been
formed to pilot this project. Your Company will
also provide EPCM services for this project.
In Infrastructure segment, Delhi Jal Board's
Yamuna River Pollution abatement project
achieved readiness of various interceptor
stretches and work is in full swing to make the
project operational at the earliest. Your Company
also achieved mechanical completion of Strategic
Crude Storage Caverns at Vizag, Mangalore and
Padur. 1st Crude-In for Vizag is also accomplished.
Research & Development
Being a primarily technology driven organization,
your Company maintains its competitive edge by
remaining at the forefront of latest technology
advances and developments. The R&D division
plays a critical role in ensuring this. Your
Company's R&D centre in Gurgaon has been

successful in commercializing a technology for


Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) Preheat Train
Optimization using Pinch technology at
Numaligarh Refinery. Various technology
development programs that were completed
during the year include Development of Process
for Treatment of Naphtha Stream to eliminate
Mercaptan by CFC Process, Regeneration of Glycol
by Extractive Distillation and Solvent development
for CO2 removal from sour gases to name a few.
Based on innovative work done during the year,
two patents have been filed; High pressure
fluidized bed gasifier and gasification process
thereof and An absorbent liquid and a process
for removal of acid gases using the same.
Two other patents filed earlier have been granted
this year. One is for an Apparatus for Separation
of C2/C3 and LPG from LNG Cold Stream and
another one for A Method for the Recovery
thereof and a Steam Trap Device . Your company
now has 16 'live' patents.
Human Capital

The year focused on strengthening HR's resolve in


creating a more transparent, performance driven
and nurturing environment for its workforce. The
HR Agenda drawn for the year 2014-15 facilitated
in prioritizing key action areas and synergized the
HR teams to work in unison towards achievement
of the Organizational Goals.
To create a robust system of performance
assessment in line with Industry best practices,
the performance appraisal process and promotion
policy for officers was reviewed and significant
changes were brought about to promote higher
engagement.
The EIL family (as of March 31 2015) consists of
3,192 dedicated and committed members and
include 2,821 technically and professionally
qualified experts.
Sharper Competitive Edge

The Company constantly sharpens its market


advantage by enhancing and improving its
systems and processes. The tremendous
advantages of IT and digital transformation are
adapted and adopted to further fillip automation,
efficiency and transparency throughout the
Company. ITS division of your company continued
to provide state-of-the-art IT enabled services to
EIL's main stream activities by developing /
implementing leading IT solutions with an aim to
deliver better quality services with increased
efficiency at reduced costs. The division along with

Responsible Corporate Citizen

Your company has always accorded highest


priority to Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) in
all aspects of its operations. During the year, your
company's Health, Safety and Environmental
(HSE) Management System was certified by an
accredited Certification Body to OHSAS 18001
(Occupational Health and Safety Assessment
Series) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management
system). These certifications will enhance your
company's evaluation scores while bidding for
overseas jobs particularly in the Middle East Oil &
Gas market.

Your Company is not only a leader in providing


its services across the hydrocarbon value chain,
but is also at the forefront of making a difference
to the society with its CSR initiatives. Major
CSR initiatives undertaken by your Company
during the year include renovation/ up gradation
of infrastructure in various educational institutes
for underprivileged children in Assam, construction
of auditorium for girl students and support for
setting up of a Digital Library in Andhra Pradesh,
classroom and toilet facilities (for girls) in
Coimbatore and many such initiatives. Your
Company also supports value based educational
programs in various schools of Uttarakhand and
free education to underprivileged children from
the slums of Delhi/NCR.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Sustainability

Corporate Governance

The concept of sustainability in your Company is


comprehensive, covering all the stakeholders
from environment to employees to investors. Your
company's Environment Division over the years
has executed projects in diversified fields of water
& waste water treatment; effluent recycle and
zero discharge projects; Environmental Impact
Assessment studies; environmental audits etc.
During the year, the division with its in-house
strength of EIA Coordinators and Functional Area
Experts, was re-accredited by Quality Council of
India (QCI) for carrying out EIA studies in India
across eleven sectors.
Focus on quality

Responding to the Hon'ble Prime Minister's clarion


call for a 'Swachh Bharat', your Company undertook
number of initiatives during the year including
providing basic amenity of safe and clean toilets to
a large segment of the Indian population
especially the girl students under Swachh
Vidyalaya Program. Your Company is constructing/
renovating 509 school toilets for girls and boys in
the states of Bihar, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and Assam.
Your Company shall also be adopting a heritage city
in Northern India to set up a Waste to Fuel
conversion facility as part of the cleanliness
campaign under Swachh Bharat campaign.

The Quality Management System of your


company continues to confirm to ISO 9001:2008.
During the year, your company was conferred with
the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National Quality
Award (RGNQA) Commendation Certificate 2012
in Large Scale Service Industry Category instituted
by Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS).
Accolades and Awards

Make in India
Make in India is another global initiative
launched by the Hon'ble Prime Minister which will
give huge boost to indigenous manufacturing.
Your Company being an integral part of
development of hydrocarbon sector in the country
has taken up this campaign in the true spirit and
has been pursuing several initiatives. EIL is piloting

Best Green Process- Petrochemicals. While our


efforts are selfless and authentic in spirit, these
recognitions from external Boards of eminent
judges confirm that our progress is in the right
direction.

Your Company continues to win prestigious


awards at various national and international
forums. This year saw the company being
bestowed with number of prestigious awards,
prominent being India Today PSUs Award 2014 in
the category of Best Global Presence, Golden
Peacock Award for Corporate Governance for the
year 2014 instituted by Institute of Directors (IOD),
FICCI Chemical and Petrochemical Awards 2014 in
the categories of Process Innovator of the YearPetrochemicals and Sustainability Award for

Your Company has always endeavored for


pursuing and maintaining the highest levels of
corporate governance. It believes that good
governance is what differentiates good companies,
and sets them apart with as respectable and
reliable organizations. Your Company is
committed to good Corporate Governance and
ethical practices as per the requirements of Clause
49 of the Listing Agreement and DPE Guidelines on
Corporate Governance.

Corporate News
EIL organizes 50th Annual General Meeting

EIL organised its 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in New Delhi on August 25, 2015. The AGM was presided over by Shri Sanjay
Gupta, C&MD in presence of other members of the Board. The meeting conducted by the Company Secretary was well attended by
the Companys shareholders, investors and other key stakeholders.

EIL pays Final Dividend to Govt. of India


EIL paid ` 46.74 crore as Final Dividend to
Government of India for the Financial Year
2014-15. The cheque for the same was
presented to Shri Dharmendra Pradhan,
Honble Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of
Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) by Shri
Sanjay Gupta, C&MD, EIL on September
2, 2015. Shri K.D. Tripathi, Secretary, senior
officials of MoP&NG, Functional Directors on
the EIL Board and Company Secretary, EIL
were also present on this occasion.

New Beginnings
EIL signs contract with NRL for DHDT Project
EIL signed the contract for providing Engineering, Procurement
& Construction Management Consultant (EPCM Services) for
implementation of the new green field 0.7 MMTPA Diesel Hydro
Treater Unit (DHDT) and other associated units & utilities for
production of BS IV / BS V grade HSD within the existing refinery
complex located at Numaligarh, Dist. Golaghat, Assam with
NRL on August 19, 2015. The contract was signed by Shri
D. Choudhury, GM (C&L), NRL and Shri V. Aggarwal, GM
(Marketing), EIL. Amongst others, Director (T) NRL, Sr. GM (P)
NRL, senior dignitaries from NRL and RCM EIL, Wax project
NRL were also present.

Successful production of Polypropylene in PPU at BCPL, Lepetkata


It was a matter of great pride when production of polypropylene
powder commenced with the start-up of the 60 KTPA
Polypropylene unit of BCPL, Lepetkata early in the morning of
July 3, 2015. During the event, Shri Manoj Jain, COO, BCPL,
Shri R. Ganesh, RCM, EIL, Shri M.V. Marak, AGM(C) and Shri
P.K. Agrawal, AGM(C) congratulated the team of EIL/ BCPL for
its determination and perseverance throughout the construction,
pre-commissioning and commissioning phases. Shri T.K.
Sen, GM (Const- In Charge), EIL-ND also extended heartiest
congratulations to the teams from EIL, BCPL and the licensor on
achieving the significant milestone.

First Shipment of Wax Slabs Flagged off from NRL Marketing Terminal
July17, 2015 was a momentous day for Wax Project at NRL as
the first shipment of Paraffin wax slabs (approx. 40 MT)
produced from the newly commissioned Wax Plant was
despatched from NRL Marketing Terminal. The first shipment of
wax cartons was flagged off by Shri S.R. Medhi, Director
(Technical), NRL along with other senior NRL personnel and the
EIL Wax Team.

Structural Erection at NHT/ISOM Project site of BPCL Mumbai


EIL team achieved a milestone at Mumbai Refinery of
BPCL on July 24, 2015, NHT/ISOM Project with the
commencement of structural erection of Main Pipe
Rack which was formally inaugurated by Shri Rajneesh
Mahajan, Executive Director (Projects), EIL accompanied by
Shri Manoj Ojha, DGM (Projects), EIL and other officials of
BPCL & EIL.

Substation Building & Heater Revamp


begins at Coker-A of Barauni Refinery

Erection of Coke Drums commences


at DCU of IREP

A major milestone has been achieved at Coker-A of IOCL


Barauni Refinery with the commencement of Heater Revamp
and Substation Building work. A formal inauguration was done
by Shri V.K. Shukla, ED-Barauni Refinery and Shri A.K. Jha,
GM (P) EIL accompanied by Shri S.K. Mishra, RCM EIL and
officials from IOCL on July 27, 2015. Client officials expressed
their satisfaction over progress achieved at site and encouraged
EIL to keep the momentum for completion of the job in
scheduled time. Inauguration of Heater revamp job for Coker-A.

On Sunday, August 2, 2015, the 3.84 MMTPA Delayed Coker


Unit of IREP realized a key milestone with the successful
erection of the first (out of four) coke drum with dimensions of
9.5 m diameter, 43 m length and 560MT weight.
Due to the challenges associated with the transportation of
these gigantic vessels, the coke drums were completely
fabricated within a distance of 0.7 km from the erection site.
The main structures of the coke drum were assembled as
modules at ground level and erected atop a 31.45 m coke drum
foundation slab. The drum was hoisted with PTC35 2000MT
Ringer type crane as the main crane and Demag CC 2400
450MT crane in super lift configuration as the tailing crane. It
was lowered meticulously through the erected structure and
seated accurately at a height of 31.45m from the FGL.

Start-Up of C2+ Recovery Unit

The start-up of C2+ Recovery Unit and production of C2+
Liquid was achieved at 0900 HRS on July 3, 2015 at BCPL,
Lepetkata complex. Gas sweetening unit was earlier
commissioned on June 4, 2015. During the event, Shri Manoj
Jain, COO, BCPL, Shri M.V. Marak, AGM(C), Shri P.K. Agrawal,
AGM(C) and other officials from EIL/BCPL congratulated the
entire team for its determination and perseverance. Shri
R. Ganesh, RCM, EIL and Shri T.K. Sen, GM (Const-In-Charge),
EIL-HO also extended their heartiest congratulations to the
entire team members of EIL and BCPL on achieving this milestone.

Mechanical erection commences at


NBPS Project
Mechanical erection for NBPS project commenced with the
erection of 3 Crude storage vessels at Noonmati Pump Station
(PS-05) on August 14, 2015. Major Civil works for Substation,
Control buildings, Pump houses and equipment foundations
have been completed already while steps are being taken to
erect the equipment immediately on arrival.

Knowledge sharing on Process Technology initiated for Dangote Refinery


The Process 1 group has initiated a presentation series of
Process Technology Familiarization to share knowledge of
Process Unit design. The Phase-I of the initiative
commenced with presentations on major Process
Units of Dangote Refinery & Petrochemical Complex
during August 7-17, 2015. The presentation series
was inaugurated by Shri S.K. Handa, ED (Technical)
and Shri S. Singh, ED (Projects). The presentations
were attended by members of Dangote Project Task
Force and members of Process 1 team. Process 1
team was ably supported by team members of Fired
Equipment Division and Instrumentation Group in
specific areas. The sessions were well attended
(on an average by 75-80 engineers each day) and

saw many lively moments of deliberations and questionsanswer sessions.

Naphtha Unloading commences at BCPL, Lepetkata


A major milestone was achieved at the Gas Cracker Project of
M/s BCPL with the pumping of Naphtha from Railway Siding
Facility to the Storage tanks inside BCPL Complex. The unloading
of Naphtha from 50 wagons of the Rail Rake was completed on
August 31, 2015. The Naphtha liquid for the Ethylene Cracker

Unit, was pumped through a newly laid underground pipeline.

things changed there was competition, less vegetation and even
lesser tranquillity. The caterpillar thought and thought, and one fine day
it tore apart its cocoon to spread out its wings, fluttering in the sky
as a colourful butterfly ready to hover on new flowers and explore
virgin territories.

made by the Hub - especially, some of its laudable achievements which
the entire EIL fraternity should know about. In the past, EIL was more
focused on refineries within the country and the overseas business
model was still in nascent stages. Bidding was done from the office in
India and personnel were mobilised overseas after securing jobs.

United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven Emirates viz. Abu Dhabi,
Ajman, Al Fujairah, Dubai, Ras al- Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm alQuwain. An OPEC member since 1967, UAE is one of the most
significant oil producers in the world. According to Oil & Gas Journal
2012 estimates, UAE ranks as the seventh-largest oil producer in the
world with proven reserves of approx. 97.8 billion barrels. A majority
(approximately 94 percent) of these reserves are located in the
Emirates of Abu Dhabi. Beyond its vast oil reserves, UAE also boasts of
sizeable natural gas reserves. According to CEDIGAZ, UAE ranks
seventeenth in the world with proven reserves of 215 Tcf.

Hence, the EIL Management deliberated and decided to set up a hub at
Abu Dhabi to address the entire Middle East Market. The objective of
this hub is having a self-sustaining entity at Abu Dhabi to identify and
secure business opportunities, serving customers in areas such as
FEED, PMC and other specialised engineering services.

The state owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was
established in 1971 and since then it has steadily broadened its activity
by establishing companies/ subsidiaries and creating an integrated oil
and gas industry in Abu Dhabi. Today, the company manages and
oversees oil production of more than 2.7 million barrels per day and
ranks among the top ten Oil & Gas companies in the world.

In line with the Management objectives, Abu Dhabi hub was


established in mid-December 2014 where from EIL intends to build on
its experience in the Middle East and continue to focus on projects in
United Arab Emirates (U.A.E), Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi
Arabia and other countries in the region based on various project
opportunities. The new EIL hub office was officially inaugurated by the
present C&MD on January 17, 2015.
The EIL Hub is situated in the prime location of Abu Dhabi which
neighbors Oil & Gas Majors and leading contractors/ consultants. The
office has been created with modern furnishing and facilities having a
seating arrangement for about 100 personnel and is being
equipped with state of the art IT infrastructure, software, videoconferencing, communication systems etc. It is projected to deploy
more than 200 personnel in UAE including 100 in EIL Abu Dhabi Hub
by December 2015.

It is also noteworthy that EIL Abu Dhabi has obtained ISO 9001:2008
certifications independently and has been HSE certified (ISO
14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:2007) as well.

Today, a major portion of the revenue from EILs overseas business is
secured from UAE and to further realize the vision and growth plans of
EIL, it becomes necessary to develop a long term sustainable business
model for increasing the contribution from overseas markets, especially
the Middle East. Considering the drop in crude oil prices and slowdown
in major CAPEX projects, EIL Abu Dhabi is also exploring the possibility

C&MD, EIL during his last visit inspired all personnel at EIL Abu Dhabi
to impart their best and work dedicatedly to procure a major share of
business from the overseas markets. Events have unfolded favorably so
far after the hub got established and it would not be far when the
Managements vision would be realized in totality.

Special Feature
Successful Commissioning of 42 inch re- routed SBHT line
It was a moment of joy, relief and sense of achievement when
EIL/ONGC team achieved the commissioning of 42 re-routed
South Bassein Hazira Trunk line at Umbharat, Surat of ONGC
well within contractual completion period with a new SV station
approx 1 Km from sea shore on July 31, 2015.
ONGC has been operating this 220 km long 42 SBHT gas
pipeline since 1995 which originates from BCPA-2 offshore
platform and terminates at Hazira Plant. This pipeline is the
lifeline of northern and western India since it feeds the HBJ
(Hazira Bijaipur Jagdishpur) Pipeline network of GAIL. Over the
years, section of pipeline of approx length of 2 km was washed
off into the sea from the shore and was exposed at Umbharat
beach (public beach) near Surat. The exposed pipeline hence
was facing direct stresses of tidal influence, harsh cyclonic
storms and high water currents. Catastrophic risks were
involved due to the possibility of bursting or leakage of pipeline especially at IJ location - during harsh spring tides when the line
was submerged in tidal waters and was oscillating with waves
during the high tides cycle which repeats every 12 hours.

Hydrocarbon engineering group ) along with their other group


agencies like LNT Geo structure ( for coffer Dam ) , LNT HCP ( for
pipeline work ) and sub agencies such as M/s TDW ( for Hot
tapping and Stoppling ) , M/s Trenchless ( for 1.1 Km HDD in
forest area ) executed the job. Considering delivery of long lead
42 inch NACE pipes / LR bends etc and 16 inch NACE valves ,
the completion of line independently was scheduled by July 05,
2015 and Shutdown requirement of 25 days was envisaged in
July 2015 for tie-ins and commissioning.

Even though various temporary remedial measure were


undertaken by M/s ONGC for protection of exposed pipeline in
the past, but due to harsh environmental conditions the same
did not sustain and the situation worsened and became
alarming in August, 2014.

However this challenging job including stoppling, depressurisation / de-commissioning of the portion to de discarded
and commissioning of the re-routed line of 2 kms with Golden
tie- in was completed on July 31, 2015 as schedule but with a
reduced shut down period of 20 days which was taken by ONGC
on July 11, 2015. The work was challenging considering rough
high tides and the intervening monsoon period.

ONGC sought EILs expertise in dealing with the situation & EIL
was awarded Project Management Consultancy Job. Though
temporary remedial measures were explored, in view of high risk
involvement, life threat, and inventory loss and environmental
effects due to sour gas service- , EIL team - after the site visit in
August 14 - suggested that permanent re-routing of the exposed
section of SBHT pipeline will be the lasting solution.

Special Construction Techniques followed to Mitigate


Challenges in this project:

The schematic basically engineered by EIL is depicted below.

Coffer Dam:

Broadly it consists of creating one tie- in point in offshore ( HK 01 ) before the LFP and another in on shore ( HK -02 ) after the
existing SV station. The re-routed new 42 inch line was
approx 1.9 kms and envisaged initial 400 mtrs pipeline laying
through open cut method in the intertidal zone + 1.1 Kms of
HDD to avoid forest land in between and balance 400 mtrs
open cut pipeline with New SV station before the on shore hook
up point. Subsequently LTHE was appointed by ONGC as the
LSTK contractor on October 08, 2014 for detailed engineering
and execution of the permanent re-routing of the exposed 42
SBHT pipeline in line with the above scheme. The completion
date for re-routing and commissioning was scheduled on July
31, 2015 as per the awarded contract. M/s LTHE (M/s L&T

Hook up point 1(HK-01) was a challenge, as this location was


under tidal influence and at elevation below Chart datum. As a
construction technique - to perform work on round the clock
basis, a double layer coffer dam, 25 mtrs x 25 mtrs, with sand
in between using sheet piles was created at this location.
Approximately 400 mtrs. Of sheet piling from this offshore area
was also done in the intertidal zone to enable pipeline laying
upto HDD entry. Waller beams and strut were constructed
throughout the length of the coffer dam to achieve stability. Each
sheet pile was 14 mtr long and 0.6 mtrs wide and which were
driven to a depth of approx 10 mtrs on land side ( to enable
gradual slope towards the HDD entry point ) and about 4 mtrs
on the sea side so that that high tide waves could be restricted .

Around 2200 nos of sheet piles were used to create this coffer
dam. About 15 nos of Diesel engine driven Dewatering pumps
were continuously deployed for dewatering - using well point
methods and to remove water accumulations / seepages /
splashes within coffer dam area thus making work inside
coffer dam for hot tapping , stoppling and golden tie- ins etc
possible even during tidal variations during the day / night .

Stopple plug was inserted at 2 points in offshore side (for safety


reasons and to hold up inventory in the subsea section intact),
and at 1 point in onshore ( to retain hold up from Hazira plant in
tact), thus isolating the section from process system and release
it for de-commissioning, tie- in and further commissioning.
Mobile Flaring Unit:
After the exiting line was isolated by the above stoppling method,
to de-commission the line, de-pressurisation of the holdup volume
of hydrocarbon gas with H2S content, was required and it was
to be done safely too. To enable this, a mobile skid mounted
flaring unit consisting of a knock out drum / Heater / Pressure
reducing skid and a flare stack of 12 mtrs height with auto
ignition system was installed at HK 02 (onshore) point.

throughout the construction season from May 15th to 31st July
15 especially in End June 2015 and July 2015 when the
monsoon season is at its peak in the region.
Hot Tapping And Stopple Plugging Technique :

Mobile Flaring system for de-pressurisation of the


isolated pipeline section required to be cut and discarded

Even while the main gas line is operational, on- line hot tapping
and stopple plug installation technique is used, to isolate
sections of the existing pipeline to perform Tie- ins with the rerouted line.The system consists of Welding Split tee and
carrying out the Hot tapping at identified locations while the 42
inch line is operational @ approx 65 kg pressure. Removal of
coupon and installation of 3 nos stoppling machine was also
done as a pre- shut down activity.

This had the design capacity to handle an inlet pressure of 20


80 kg pressure gas while flaring was done @ 1 bar. Flaring of
hold up volume of the system of pipeline inventory in the section
to be re-routed was done through this and then the section was
inertized (N2 purged) to make sure the line is hydrocarbon free.
Hot tapings to enable Flaring through 10 inch port and also for
N2 vapour purging were also created prior to shut down.

For inserting the stopple and plugging the line, no flow condition
was required and this is when shut down starts.

Thus line was de-commissioned and release for safe cutting.


Cold Cutting:
Pneumatic cold cutting was done to avoid sparking etc. while
cutting the hydrocarbon line - which was operational since last
25- 30 years and which might be still left with some anticipated
condensates. This was done to enable safe isolation of the
existing portion of the line.
Summary:
This project was unique considering the aspect of Pipeline
remedial measures at such a vast scale for the first time in the
country and re-routing of such magnitude were performed on a
critical 42 inch live sour gas pipeline in the intertidal zone that
too in monsoon time. From concept to commissioning this
rectification project is a great learning experience for everyone in
Oil and Gas industry.

Milestone achieved at BCPL's GSU at Lakwa
EIL achieved a major milestone at Gas
Sweetening / C2+ Rec unit of BCPL at
Lakwa. The entire unit was automated and
DCS powered with system engineering
commencing on June 27, 2015. The DCS
system was delivered by M/s Yokogawa India
ltd. The powering of DCS & UPS system sets
the first step towards commissioning of
packages in the coming days.

EIL completes HDD Pipeline Works at ISPRL Mangalore/Padur Project


EIL achieved a major milestone at ISPRL Padur/Mangalore
project with the completion of 48 HDD Crude oil Pipeline pulling
(690M) in marshy area amidst adverse climatic conditions.
Due to space constraints and ground settlement, pulling could
be done in segments thereby causing a gap of 28 hours,
involving golden joints. With 6 side booms (70 MT) and
3 excavators, pullback of 48HDD string started on June
28, 2015. Monsoon played spoilsport - side booms and
excavators were stuck after pulling the first segment. However,
round the clock work and focused efforts of the entire team
yielded positive results. Finally, the HDD pullback was
completed successfully on June 30, 2015.

Major Milestone achieved at Petrochemical Complex-II of GAIL at Pata


Petrochemical Complex-II of GAIL at Pata achieved a major
milestone towards commissioning of Gas Cracker Unit following
the coupled run of Cracked Gas Compressor (110-KA-300) with
Air run on July 9, 2015.

the C2R Compressor (110-KA-650), the turbine solo run was


completed successfully on July 10, 2015. The over speed trip
set point was tested at 8342 rpm.
This achievement was possible due to the perseverance of EIL
and GAIL teams. The efforts of the EIL team were appreciated by
the GAIL Management at site.

The turbine run of CG Compressor was performed with VHP


Steam (95 kg/cm2g) at a temperature of 450 degrees. Also, for

To assemble the Modules, space was a major constraint as DCU is surrounded by existing facilities of CPCL Refinery. All activities
were meticulously planned and stringent monitoring was adhered by working round-the-clock to meet deadlines.
Shri U Venkataramana, D (T) CPCL appreciated all out efforts put in by EIL on achieving this key milestone. On the said structure, four
more Derrick Modules are to be erected.

Milestone achieved at HP Green R&D Center at Bengaluru


EIL-HPGRDC team achieved the first milestone of successful
pre-commissioning and hand over of crude laboratory to HPCL.
This R&D facility comprises of 7 laboratories with a built up area
of 3 lakh sq. ft. Dr. N.V. Choudhary, GM in-Charge, the scientists
of M/s HPCL along with project team of EIL and HPCL
inaugurated this lab on July 27, 2015.

Successful PGTR of SRU at Mangalore Refinery, MRPL


EIL demonstrated all the guarantee parameters successfully in
the recently concluded Performance Guarantee Test Run
(PGTR) of all the three SRU trains in MRPL Phase-III. The SRU
includes- Claus section, tail gas treating section, incinerator
section and sulphur handling section.

The Claus section and incinerator section of the SRU are


licensed by EIL .The capacity of each SRU train is 185 TPD and
recovery is 99.9%. CATDEGAS, a chemical developed by EIL is
used for degassing of liquid sulphur. The product sulphur is
converted to pellets in a pelletizer section. The test run was
conducted for a period of 72 hours for each train. The guarantee
parameters include overall sulphur recovery, throughput (design

IREP adds new feathers in its cap


IREP accomplished an important milestone with the erection of
the Main Fractionator of 2.2 MMTPA PFCC Unit on August
3, 2015. The Main Fractionator with gargantuan dimensions of
8.5 mtr diameter, 55 mtr length and 570MT weight was
completely fabricated within the Project area at Chitrapuzha
yard located at a distance of 2.8Kms from the erection site.
Further, the skyline of Delayed Coker Unit of Integrated Refinery
Expansion Project gained prominence with the successful & safe

erection of all 4 Coke drums another feather in the cap of


IREP team.
The four Coke drums each measuring 9.5mtr in dia, 43 mtr in
length & weighing 560MT were diligently erected on the Coke
drum slab at a height of 31.45 mtr in sequence with 2000MT
Ringer type crane on August 2, 6, 14 and 21, 2015
respectively. The last module of coke drum structures was also
erected on August 25, 2015.

Couple Run of Tertiary Refrigerant Compressor at BCPL, Lepetkata


Brahmaputra Petrochemical Complex of M/s BCPL achieved
another milestone with the couple run of Tertiary Refrigerant
Compressor (113-KA-501) using propylene gas on August 8,
2015. The occasion was graced by Shri P N Prasad, MD-BCPL

in presence of Shri O.P. Taylor, Director (Fin.)-BCPL, Shri A.K.


Singh, GM-BCPL, Shri P.K. Agrawal, AGM-EIL and other senior
officials from BCPL and EIL. The efforts put in by EIL team were
appreciated highly.

Successful replacement of Expansion Joint in HPCL Vizag Refinery


EIL RO Chennai has successfully executed the replacement
of Expansion Joint for HPCL Vizag Refinery's FCCU-II unit
with a new joint of 3700 mm length, cold wall design and

pantographic linkage. HPCL appreciated EIL's efforts rendered


for helping them to complete this unique task within a shutdown period of 8 days.

INDADEPT-G Project on fast track


Site activities of INDADEPT-G project at Guwahati Refinery
witnessed a boost with the erection of two Reactors on August
19 and 20, 2015. INDADEPT-G unit at Guwahati Refinery is
being set up for deep desulphurization. The new facility will also
provide a cutting edge to IOCL for meeting stringent demands of
BS-IV MS wrt. sulphur content. EIL is executing the project on
EPCM mode. The project achieved another milestone with the
erection of Caustic Scrubber Column on August 21, 2015 at an
elevation of 17 M. The column having metallurgy SS 316,
capacity-27.17 cubic m, length 22 M, ID- 1.3 M and weight

11.201 MT has been manufactured by M/s Bengal Tools


Limited, Kolkata.

RCC beam casting for Coke chamber completed for Coker-A Project of
IOCL Barauni Refinery
The Coker-A Project of IOCL Barauni
Refinery achieved a key milestone with the
completion of RCC beam casting for coke
chamber at an EL +110 on September 5,
2015. Client M/s IOCL appreciated EIL for
achieving this critical target safely and
within time schedule.

EIL completes Flare Erection in Algiers Refinery


Rehabilitation and Adaptation Project at Algiers Refinery of
Sonatrach achieved a major milestone with the erection of the
Hydrocarbon and Acid Flare on September 9, 2015. The Flare
structure of 100.5 m height including Molecular seal and Flare
tip was erected in 8 modules in a prefabricated tubular form.
The erection was done with a 260 Ton Crawler Crane with a total
boom length of 110 m.

EIL commissions Shahjalal Fertilizer Project in Bangladesh successfully


EIL commissioned the prestigious Shahjalal Fertilizer Project of
Bangladesh Government on September 20, 2015. The project
involves a 1000 MTPD Ammonia Plant and 1760 MTPD Melt
Urea & Urea Granulation plant. On this occasion Engr. Md.
Kamruzzaman, Project Director, SFP of M/s BCIC congratulated
EIL and appreciated its efforts as a PMC. The Chairman
of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC)
Mr. Mohammad Iqbal also appreciated EILs contribution to the
project during his visit to site on September 19, 2015.

Nation Building Initiatives at EIL


Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana
Another drive which deserves a special mention is the one
organized at CDU-4 Project on Saturday, August 29, 2015 to
motivate the contractual construction workers at CDU-4 to join
the scheme. Shri Nitin Deoras, GM (C) and RCM, CDU-4
Project addressed a gathering of all Contractor RCMs and
sensitized them about the benefits of the scheme. Since most of
the workers at construction Sites work in hazardous conditions,
the RCMs were urged to encourage their workers enroll with the
scheme. Thereafter, an assembly of workers (approximately
1800 to 2000) was apprised of the benefits of the scheme as
well as the modalities of enrolment, through a special Tool Box
Talk. The queries raised by some of the workers were also
resolved. The workers were grateful to EIL for educating them
about the scheme and many were convinced of joining the same
along with their family members.

Albeit small, but the progressive steps taken by EIL are bound to
transform human lives for good - for who knows that drops may
eventually turn into a wave and finally, into a tide.

The scheme is a one


year cover, renewable
from year to year; its
an Accident Insurance
Scheme offering
accidental death and
disability cover for death or disability on account of an accident.
The scheme is offered / administered through Public Sector
General Insurance Companies (PSGICs) and other general
insurance companies willing to offer the product on similar
terms with necessary approvals and tie up with banks for this
purpose. All savings bank account holders in the age 18 to 70
years in participating banks are entitled to join. Individuals who
exit the scheme at any point may re-join the scheme in future
years. The benefits are up to Rs. two lacs, at a premium of just
Re. 1 per month.
As a socially responsible corporate citizen, EIL issued guidelines
to all the sites and regional offices for generating awareness
pertaining to the scheme, in view of the imminent benefits.
Much needed drives and awareness programs were held at
many EIL offices, especially catering to an audience comprising
of laborers, workers and contractors.
As a noteworthy instance, a motivational drive was conducted at
Dahej site (Gujarat) on the eve of Raksha Bandhan. Shri G A
Swamy, RCM called the meeting of all HR In-charges on August
29, 2015, wherein they were advised to motivate all workers to
avail the benefits following from the scheme. Subsequently, a
team of dedicated EIL officers held talks at various locations and
agencies to motivate construction workers to join the program.

that great trip with someone. Journeys are made by the people

Few days ago this fancy tagline of a popular airline caught my
attention. Though the pen product of an ad guru intended to
target our emotionally gooey centres; it does have an honest
appeal to it.
Remember the last time you went for a trip; work-related or
recreational? I think you do...you do very well. There is
something about travelling that always has a special address in
our memory lane. Its logical too; break from the mundane
routine...new places...new people.
Something different will always leave a distinctive mark on our
memory slate. Some of the most interesting, life changing and
adventurous experiences in life are residents of that special trip
that you took.
Some long-forgotten faces of people partnering in those hours of
road/rail/flight journeys; some new-found friends lasting a
lifetime; some newly discovered ways of life of a distant land on
a vacation; some old traditions unearthed on a trip taken for
recreation - big or small, old or new, significant or uneventful;
however might you describe the trip that you just took, it will

always feature boldly in the visa of your life.


Travelling far and wide to surprise a loved one; or taking that
same two hour road trip to the same picnic spot every year with
family, every journey is full of a wide range of emotions and it is
indeed marked by the people who accompany us. We buy
souvenirs on a trip to remember it by, but what we dont realise is

Coffee Table Book IIT Delhi through the lens

The Coffee Table Book IIT Delhi through the Lens was
presented to the President of India Shri Pranab Muherjee by IIT
Delhi Alumni Association at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November
16, 2015.
The book was edited by Shri V. Sethuraman, formerly in EIL,
who superannuated in January 2008. Earlier, on September 09,
2015, the book was released by Dr. Rajendra Singh, Minister of
state in the PMO office. On this occasion, Shri V. Sethuraman
was felicitated for the work accomplished by him. The book
traces the history of the institute from its inception through rare
pictures. The text is lucid, crisp and provides easy reading. EIL
appreciates the efforts of Shri V. Sethuraman.

The Powerful Effect of Noticing Good Things at Work


Over the course of a typical workday, negative and positive
things inevitably happen to you. If youre like most people, you
tend to focus mainly, or even exclusively, on negative
experiences. Theyre what you ruminate over, what you talk to
your friend about as youre driving home, what you discuss with
your partner. It sometimes feels good to talk about the negatives
it feels therapeutic.
If someone were to tell you to focus only on the positive
experiences in your day, you might be annoyed. What most
people dont realize is that positive experiences even small
ones provide you with valuable resources that can be used to
reduce stress, including physical symptoms such as headaches
or muscle tension. They make it easier for you to detach yourself
from work at the end of the day. A team comprising Prof. Joyce E.
Bono of University of Florida and Prof. Theresa M. Glomb of
University of Minnesota learned from its research that thinking
about positive events in a systematic way can be healthy. They
suggest that instead of ruminating about negative things, you try
to savor relive, enjoy, and share the positive events of
your day.

a feedback loop that enhances its impact: people who reflect on


good things that happened during the day are more likely to
share those things with family and friends. Sharing positive
events with others creates connections between people and
bonds them with one another, further reducing stress.
Ultimately, this also improves sleep, which ongoing research
suggests leads to greater alertness and better mood which in
turn leads to more positive things happening the next day.

For most people, this doesnt come naturally. Evolution and the
survival imperative have attuned human beings to pay careful
attention to all things negative; in addition, people quickly
become so accustomed to positives in their environments that
they hardly notice them. But a simple intervention can help
overcome both tendencies.

Other benefits of this easy-to-implement and inexpensive


exercise include potential increases in creativity. Creative
thinking and innovation are enhanced by positive emotions,
especially feelings of contentment and joy. Growth,
development, and forward thinking arise from positive
emotions.

Consider an experiment the research team conducted to study


the workplace effect of whats known as the three good things
intervention. The team worked with employees of outpatient
family-practice clinics. They asked participants to log onto a
web site at the end of their work day and complete a survey.
The survey asked them to spend five to 10 minutes writing
about events large or small, personal or work-related, that had
gone really well that day and to explain why those things
had gone well.

It is unlikely that people will stop talking about negative


experiences at work. It is natural. But intentionally focusing on
positive events can provide balance. We dont advocate putting
up happy posters, but companies can take steps to intelligently
help people notice and share positive experiences. For example,
how about starting a meeting with a review of what has gone
well recently, rather than immediately jumping to what needs to
be improved?

The responses ranged from reports of coworkers bringing in


delicious food, to the mere fact that it was Friday, to thoughtful
stories about interactions with coworkers or patients that made
people feel good about themselves. After three weeks, stress
levels and mental and physical complaints declined by small but
significant amounts.

Whats great about this exercise, however, is the power it gives


to each of us on a daily basis. Before turning on the radio or
getting on a call during your homeward commute, take a
moment to reflect on the good things that happened at work.
Doing so can help you capitalize on the small, naturally
occurring flow of daily positive events a ubiquitous but toooften-ignored source of strength and well-being.

This simple practice writing about three good things that


happened creates a real shift in what people think about, and
can change how they perceive their work lives. It can also create

Just Do Your Bit!!


Happy Independence Day to all...!
I know it is not 15th of Aug today. No...No...No....I am not
insane nor have my wits gone grass grazing. Why is today not an
Independence Day??? Why do I have to restrict myself to a single
day out of all 365 days of a calendar for its commemoration - TO
FEEL, BREATHE and CELEBRATE a virtue so basic and yet
immensely indispensable and invaluable?
Robert Green Ingersell once said "What light is to the eyes...
What air is to the lungs...
What love is to the heart...
LIBERTY is to the soul of a man"
But even for a day when we all pretend to be drowned in the
spirit of nationalism and totally absorbed in the passion &
fervour, shining bright in a 68 year old fire, I am afraid how much
of it is real. Is the passion superficial? Is it all about putting up an
office show, a school parade a flag hoisting or hearing a
downloaded speech? Suddenly, the entire tide of passion
recedes. Is it that hollow and shallow?? May be YES, because
when we have something we do not value it; when it is lost we
realise its importance.
Ronald Regan said "Freedom is never more than one generation
away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the
bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected and handed on to
them to do the same". We know it well within our heart of
hearts....they (martyrs) fought, bled and gifted it to us. And we
have been mocking it ever since. We hardly have time to look
beyond our own pert nose and interests. The subject
(FREEDOM) has simply been taken for granted. As is the king,
so are the subjects - right? I would rather say the opposite. We
blame everything on the government and the governance, as if
we are in the same bygone era with our necks tied to a rope
whose end is in the hands of others. Reality is that we are
nothing but a bunch of argumentative people who can quote a
thousand reasons for not doing something rather than one for
doing it, a bunch of handicapped folks who sit back, debate,
argue, criticise and still expect miracles from others. For how
long will we be beating a dead horse? For how long will we be
quoting and glorifying the sacrifices and achievements of our
martyrs - our heroes of the freedom struggle? Why do we have a
dearth of names of such people having the same zeal and zest?
Is it because it hardly matters? We already have FREEDOM, we
haven't earned it. And freebies are not that valued, right? Look at
our attitude, if there comes up a great leader we have thousands
of petty politicians to pull him down and vice versa, rather than all
coming together and strengthening each other for the same
cause. It is not the strength or capability of a leader always that
decides the future of a family or a country; it is the attitude of
every single family member and citizen that matters for raising it
to high heaven or bringing it crashing down. But our greed for
pelf, power and position has overpowered our senses that
differentiate between right and wrong.

Well, being independent means we have the right to take our


decisions and use them for the benefit of the entire mankind.
But mostly, it is about me, my consort and kids only. Parents too,
are a second category people in this nuclear thought. It has been
68 long years and all these years we had no one to blame since
everything was as per our commandments and wishes. But
issues like POVERTY, ILLITERACY, MALNUTRITION, FEMALE
FOETICIDE, UNEMPLOYMENT and many more still remain like
BLACK HOLES - ever deepening, uncontrollable and
unmanageable. I wonder what went wrong because it has been
our reign - OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE & FOR THE
PEOPLE. And we are independent and free, right? No we aren't.
We are slaves of our laid back attitude, our lameness, our greed,
our reluctance and our mental weaknesses. We just can't stand
up for anything because SATYAMEV JAYATE is more for
adorning the beauty of Government Offices rather than actual
practice. We are hypersensitive towards our rights and totally
insensitive towards our duties. And that is what I want to convey
through this write up.... Freedom or Independence is not a day's
festival or a celebration or a script to be dramatized, it is the
essence of life and so it should be felt, lived every moment and
all things should be oriented in the direction of strengthening it
and awakening our slave souls. Trust me; the day this is
achieved, it shall mark the beginning of our independence.
Believe in yourself; believe in a one man army and DO YOUR
BIT. Feel the pride, express your nationalism and love even in
small things that may look trivial...
Let us make our kids feel proud of their nation and inculcate in
them the feeling of love and duty towards it, rather than fleeing
away to the States far away from their home and family.
By paying taxes and working sincerely, by helping and
enlightening the needy in ones capacity, by confronting the
wrong and supporting the right, by maintaining a clean and
green nation.....be it financially, socially, economically,
emotionally or logically - JUST DO YOUR BIT.
This is our nation, our freedom - let us live and kindle the light of
compassion and pride for India in our hearts by being a dutiful
and conscientious citizen. Let us all come together and remove
the shackles that have been hampering our nation's growth and
progress since ages. LET US DO OUR BIT!!

EIL anchors the inaugural LKMT R&D Meet - 2015 on CTL technology
Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust (founded with the vision of Late
Shri Lovraj Kumar for indigenous technology development)
organised the' LKMT R&D Meet-2015 (Coal-to-liquid technologies)'
in association with Engineers India Ltd, IIT Delhi, IICHE
(Northern Regional Center) from July 24-25, 2015 in New Delhi.

FT process, FT catalyst, FT reactor design, DME, Methanol


synthesis, hydrodynamics and transport issues and other related
topics of coal/biomass gasification were presented and discussed.

The meet is unique in its distinct aim to bring together all the

renowned Indigenous and Multi National EPC companies as well as professors and students from IIT Chennai.

EIL participated at Global Refining & Petrochemical Congress
2015 held during July 1-3, 2015. The conference aimed
to facilitate the exchange of ideas and discussions on
pertinent energy-related issues, while simultaneously meeting

Under the ambit of Make In India (MII) campaign, EIL
organized an interactive meet for Overseas Suppliers and their
alliance partners at EIL Complex, Gurgaon on August 28, 2015.

Chaudhary, ED (Inspection), EIL; Shri Niraj Sethi, ED (CS & BD),
EIL; Shri Rajender Singh, Director (Technical), Petronet LNG
and several other senior officials from ONGC, IOCL, BPCL,

HPCL, GAIL, Petronet LNG, GSPC & EIL graced the occasion.
The MII meet witnessed active participation of more than
40 organizations from several countries and helped in
networking between suppliers and Oil & Gas sector
organizations, through a Q&A session organized after the
presentations.All the suppliers assured their full cooperation
and support in making the Make In India Campaign a success.

EIL participates in 5th Annual Conference on LNG Business in India:Amid low oil prices
EIL participated in 5th Annual Conference on the subject "LNG
Business in India: Amid low oil prices" on August 26-27, 2015
in New Delhi. The Conference aimed to discuss about the LNG
business scenario in India at a time when Crude oil prices are
diving to surprising levels not envisaged earlier and the Oil & Gas
organisations are adjusting to the new pricing reality.
A technical presentation titled Impact of falling crude oil prices
and the need of LNG business in India from EIL was accepted for
presentation in the inaugural session. Shri Atiq M. Khan, Dy.
Manager (CS&BD), EIL delivered the presentation and shared
the forum with senior leadership of oil and gas sector.

EIL participates in IORS 2015


Corporate Strategy and Business Development Division
participated at 22nd Annual India Oil & Gas Review Summit &
International Exhibition (IORS) 2015 held during September
9 & 10, 2015. The Conference theme was Changing Game:
Opportunities, Challenges and Solutions. The Conference
focused on the importance of collaborative efforts between
national and international oil companies, industry and
academia to meet world energy demand.

IORS 2015 provided a strategic platform to participate in


meaningful, cutting edge discussions with oil and gas
executives and engineers from around the world.

Shri Niraj Sethi (ED CS&BD) & Shri Vinay Gupta (Dy. Manager,
CS&BD) were invited to present EIL ideas on the Conference
theme. Shri Gupta presented a paper entitled Hydrocarbon
Dominated PCPIR A Gateway to Smart Cities & Regional

Training Programme on Think Straight Think Through at OPaL Dahej site
A first of its kind employment oriented training and skill
development program for un-employed youth was conducted in
village Jolva (near OPaL Dahej Site), Distt Bharuch, Gujarat as a
part of EIL's CSR Project during April 22, 2015 to July 23, 2015
in collaboration with M/s MCM Worldwide Private Limited.
The valedictory function for a batch of 40 unemployed youths
belonging to places near Jolva Village was organized on July 23,
2015 in the training center of M/s MCMW, Jolva Village. The
function was attended by Shri G.A. Swamy - RCM EIL Dahej,
Shri R.K. Malik- Director, and MCMW, officials from EIL and
MCMW and local representatives from Jolva village.

Three day Workshop on Instrumentation in Refinery and Petrochemical


Industry conducted at EIL
EIL organized a three day workshop on Instrumentation in
Refinery and Petrochemical Industry during July 29, 2015
July 31, 2015 at Training & Development Centre, EIL Gurgaon.
The training program attracted active industry participation
from many of EIL's clients and business partners, notably
BPCL Mumbai, BPCL Kochi, BORL, IOCL Panipat, IOCL
Gujarat, Petronet LNG Ltd, OPal Dahej, ONGC Uran, ONGC

Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd and NRL. The program, an


initiative under Training Division's Profit Centre role, generated a
good exposure for EIL's technical prowess besides augmenting
the business. A team of bright engineers from Instrumentation,
led by Ms R. Priyamvada, GM (Electrical & Instrumentation) and
Shri Rajiv Gupta, HOD (Instrumentation) constituted the faculty
for the program.

Training Programme on Building Managerial Effectiveness


As part of leadership development program, the first batch of
Building Managerial Effectiveness (BME) for the FY 2015-16
was conducted by FORE School of Management at Training
Centre, EIL, Gurgaon. 21 executives from Levels 14-15 and the
highly experienced faculty from FORE School of Management

Aarohan Batch VIII for Business Leaders commenced on July
31, 2015 at Business Centre, Engineers India Bhawan with a
participation of 31 DGMs from the organization including 8
outstation participants posted at ROs, BO, RPOs and sites.
In the inaugural session, Director (HR) stated that the
participants should utilize the training program to figure out

strategy. He focused on the need to change the mindset from


being a Consultant to Vendor/Contractor. He also suggested
certain topics for Action Learning Projects (ALPs) and invited
suggestions on ALPs from participants.
The First Fish Bowl (FB) session of Aarohan Batch-VIII was held
on August 20, 2015 at Training & Development Centre of EIL at
Gurgaon. The one day program was facilitated by Shri R Mohan,
GM (Planning & Scheduling highlighting various Management
Concepts and Project Planning aspects with 28 participants.

EIL supports Free Eye Checkup Camp at BCPL site, Lepetkata, Assam.
EIL, under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative
supported the free Eye Screening and Cataract Operation camp
on June 28, 2015 at Primary Health Centre, Barbaruah near
BCPL Site, Lepetkata through Anugraha Drishtidaan. More than
500 patients attended the camp for eye check-up. Free
medicines were distributed during the camp and eighty one (81)
patients with cataract were identified for free operation.

on this occasion. Anugraha Drishtidaan and patients expressed

EIL organized a free Eye Screening and Cataract Operation
Camp on July 12, 2015 at Samudayik Swasthay Kendra (Govt
Hospital), Rawatbhata at NFC Rawatbhata/Kota site through
Anugraha Drishtidaan as a part of CSR initiatives. A total of 386
patients were screened, 279 spectacles were distributed,
medicine distributed to 202 patients and 76 patients were
identified for free cataract operations.
