CELESTIAL TIMELINE FROM JOSHUA TO ELIAS

Astrochronology of events from the Joshua campaigns in early 12th century BCE to the activity of Elias
in mid-9th century BCE is proposed

Joshuas solstice and lunistice

Joshua stopped the sun and the moon (Joshua 10:1214) when the God cast the stones
on the Joshuas enemies (Joshua 10:11). This event might be related not only to solstice
but also to lunistice;1 the closest lunistice to 1183 BCE was in 1175 BCE. In June 19, 1176
BCE, near the summer solstice, five close planets symbolized five kings fighted against
Joshua (Joshua 10:5) while the meteors from the constellation of Cepheus symbolized the
celestial stones.
The pharaohs campaign in Canaan at the end of the Joshuas ruling (Joshua 16:10
Septuagint) is confirmed by Ramesses IIIs documents and his cartouche in Lachish. If
the difficulties provisioning his workmen at Deir el-Medina in his 29th year of reign
were caused by the Hekla 3 eruption in 1159 BCE2 then his reign began in 1187 BCE
while the radiocarbon date of his accession is 1191/1189 BCE. 3 So the fifth year of his
reign was 1183 BCE when the pharaoh fought the Lybians and Philistines while Joshua
captured Jericho. Joshua was a ruler during 25 years after Moses (Flav. Antiqu. v 1.29),
i. e. during 11841159. Perhaps, the eruption caused a disorder not only in Egypt. The
solar eclipse on April 16, 1159 BCE4 or lesser on August 19, 1157 might be a celestial
sign of the Joshuas death. The name of Joshua bin Nun might be related to the Milky
Way where Neptune was located in about 1250 BCE when Joshua was born.
Judges
The beginning of the Age of Judges (after the 25-year ruling of Joshua) might be
identified from the extra-Biblical sources as mid-XII century BCE.5 Astronomical
symbols of the epoch included the features of the constellations from Leo to Sagittarius 6

5 The enemy of Othniel the first judge was Chushan-Rishathaim, a king of Aram-Naharaim (Mitanni which
was an Assyrian province during 12th c. BCE) might be Aur-ra-ii I / ma-ur-SAG-i-i, a king of Assyria
during about 11331116 BCE.
6 Caleb (dog), a Joshuas warrior, and his nephew Othniel (lion of God), the first of the judges who
ruled fourty years (during about 11591119 BCE), were related to the symbols of Canis Major and Leo.
Ehud (cf. lion of Judah / Jehudah) was the second judge symbolically related to Leo. Shamgar the third
judge who killed the Philistines with an ox goad might be related to Canes Venatici (ox goad?) near Ursa
Major (oxen). Then Deborah (bee) and Barak (lighting) symbolically related to Virgo and Coma
1

while the story of Samson the last judge included the symbols from Capricornus to
Aquarius.7
Heros name, Shimshon, might be compared with Hebrew shemesh, the sun; the
name of Dalila, Delilah, is similar to Hebrew Deli Aquarius, literally jug. The solar
eclipse on January 26, 1035 BCE when the sun was located in Aquarius might be related
to the story.8
During the period from 1150s BCE to 1035 BCE Uranus moved from Leo to
Sagittarius (the symbols of judges before Samson) and made next full cycle to the same
Sagittarius. The Age of Judges might also be calculated from 1184 BCE (the death of
Moses) when Neptune was located in Virgo (the symbol of judgement, with swordshaped Botes) to 1005 BCE when Neptune left Virgo and moved closer to Libra, a part
of Scorpius and symbol of the bad king of Saul.
Kings
The image of Saul contains the symbols of Orion and Scorpius. 9 The total lunar
eclipse over Orion on November 19, 985 BCE might be symbollically connected with
Berenices judged; if Sisera related to Sumerian Venus then the murdering of the warrior by the woman
might be related to the Venus-Spica conjunction when Uranus was located in Virgo on July 29, 1142 BCE.
Their successor Gideon had a sword which might be compared with sword-shaped Botes (Chrysaor,
golden sword in the Greek tradition). The next judges were bad Abimelech and Tola, worm after him;
they might be related to Libra (a part of Scorpius in ancient astronomy) and Scorpius. Elon (oak) the
judge might be related to tree-shaped Milky Way or tree-shaped Aquila. Samson, a warrior and the last
judge, might be related to Sagittarius. In the time of judges Neptune moved from Sagittarius and
Capricornus during the judging of Othniel to Leo during the judging of Samson. So not only the
constellation where the planet was located but also the opposite constellation were interpreted
symbolically; cf. the same principle in the Jacobs blessing.
7 Samson becomes in power with the sun from the winter solstice (the sun and the solar hero are born,
and a sacrifice of a kid marks the winter solstice constellation of Capricornus) to the summer solstice (ass
jaw symbolized the summer solstice asterism of Aselli). His philistine wife might be connected to Virgo.
8 The story might be also related to the moving of Neptune from Taurus near Capella (she-goat, cf. the
sacrifice of a kid for the birth of Samson) via Aselli (asses, cf. ass jaw) to Leo during about 10751035
BCE; the planet was close to Asellus Australis in early 1047 BCE and close to the royal star of Regulus in
early 1038 BCE.
9 Saul was very high (1 Sam. 9:2), he found his asses (1 Sam. 10:2) and met persons with bread and wine (1
Sam. 10:3), cf. Orion the giant, Aselli, and the stars of Spica (ear of corn) and Vindemiatrix (vinedresser) in Virgo (the same symbols were used in the story of Joseph). Galgal (round one) as a place of
intronisation (1 Sam. 11:1415) might be related to round Corona Borealis while the judgement between
Samuel and people (1 Sam. 12:7) might be related to Libra, scale. David might be symbolically related to
Sagittarius while Goliath to Ophiuchos / Serpentarius. David as one of eight sons may be compared
with seven Cabirs, cf. the zodiacal constellations from Taurus (the constellation of the spring equinox
when Aquarius symbolically related to Ruben, the first son of Jacob, was the constellation of winter
solstice) to Ophiuchus (Phoenician Eshmun, the seventh, which rises with Scorpius) and Sagittarius (the
eighth from Taurus). The Valley of Oak as a place of David-Goliath combat (1 Sam. 17:19) may be
compared with the Milky Way near Ophiuchus and Sagittarius. The shepherds stick of David (1 Sam.
17:40) resembles Scorpius while beheaded Goliath resembles Ophiuchosand his head may be
symbolically related to Corona Australis. Jonatan gives David his bow (1 Sam. 18:4): the Bow was a part
of Sagittarius, archer. Arrows as Jonathans signs for David (1 Sam. 20:3638) symbolise Sagitta, arrow;
Goliaths sword (1 Sam. 21:9) symbolises sword-shaped Cygnus, and bread (1 Sam. 21:36); the Philistine
king of Anchus / Achish (1 Sam. 21:1015) has the name related to the Indo-European name of snake

the murdering of Saul. Neptune was located in Libra (a part of Scorpius in ancient
Greek astronomy) and Scorpius in 1005985 BCE, during the twenty-year reign of Saul
(Flav. Antiqu. x 143). Sauls crown which was brought to David (2 Sam. 1:10) resembles
Corona Australis near which Neptune was located in 985 BCE.10
The solar eclipse on December 26, 968 BCE near Neptune which left Sagittarius
might be symbolically related to the death of David. Perhaps, the years of the Davids
reign migh be calculated not from the murdering of Saul but from the secret anointing
of David by Samuel during the Sauls reign. Saturn (the name from Iranian xatra,
power of king) entered Sagittarius in 989 BCE.11
Samuel dead between the secret anointing of David in about 989 BCE and the
murdering of Saul in about 985 BCE, so the solar eclipse on December 26, 987 BCE
might be symbolically connected with his death.
The solar eclipse on June 2, 930 BCE in Gemini, twin brothers as a possible symbol
of two countries with the kings of the similar names, Rehoboam and Jeroboam, after the
Solomons reign might be symbolically related to the end of the Solomons reign which
lasted about fourty years. These dates correlate with extra-Biblical sources.12 Jeroboam
in dual Egypt during late Solomons reign like a ruling of two kings with similar
names might correlate with the location of Jupiter in Gemini in 930 BCE.13

(Greek ekhis, snake and enkhelos, eel, Latin anguis, snake), cf. snake-shaped Scorpius. The place of
goats (1 Sam. 24:3) might be symbolically related to Capricornus. So Anchus who killed Saul might be
compared with Scorpius which killed Orion.
10 The description of the activity of Samuel and the reigns of Saul and David includes the symbols of earshaped Botes (the name of Samuel is related to the word for listen), Scorpius (Shaula is the star in the
constellation) and Sagittarius (a warrior) rising with Lyra (cf. Davids instrument) while the Square of
Pegasus might be symbolically related to the First Temple. Neptune rose with Botes in about 1015 BCE
(Samuels judging); the planet was located in Libra (a part of Scorpius in ancient astronomy) and Scorpius
during 1005985 BCE (the twenty-year reign of Saul, Flav. Antiqu. x 143), entered Sagittarius in about 985
BCE (the beginning of the Davids reign). The story of Samuel includes the symbols of the sacrifice of bull
(1 Sam. 1:2425) possibly related to setting Taurus.
11 David was mentioned in two extra-Byblical inscriptions from IX c., Aramaic stele fragment from Tel
Dan and the Mesha stele.
12 Firstly, the start of building of Solomons Temple, 143 years and 8 months before the founding of
Carthage in 825 or rather 814 BCE (Josephus Flavius), on the fourth year of the Solomons reign, pointed
to 969 or rather 958 BCE. Solomon built the Temple during seven years (Uranus might be observed in one
constellation during the period) and his own house during 13 years (it was a period when Neptune
located in one constellation) while Uranus and Neptune moved near the Square of Pegasus, a possible
celestial correlate of the Temple, during the Solomons reign. Secondly, the pharaoh of Shishaq /
Sheshonk / Shoshenq I (c. 943922 BCE), a contemporary of Solomon, take the treasures of the Temple
during the fifth year of the reign of king Rehoboam, the Solomons son. Shesonqs reign is dated to
945/941924/920 BCE, and his invasion to the last years of the reign, Shortland, A. J. Shishak, King of
Egypt, The Bible and radiocarbon dating, Th. E. Levy, Th. Higham (eds.), Equinox (L., 2005), p. 53. The fifth
year of Rehoboam was about 926/925 BCE, by my astronomical dating. The reigns of Rehoboam and
Jeroboam might be related to the symbol of Gemini. Cf.: http://www.eleven.co.il/article/14567 Dido as a
planet in a late Greek source in connection to the bulls skin legend might be interpreted in relation to
Uranus in Taurus in 825 BCE.

Elias
The image of Elias, Eliahu, in the fire chariot with fire horses (2 Kings 2:11) resemble
the image of Helios. Elias was a contemporary of the Israel king Ahab who reigned in
the middle of 9th century BCE. The total solar eclipse near the Great Bear regarded as a
chariot ocurred on July 4, 857 BCE. Elias criticized Ahabs cuccessor Ohozia, so the end
of Ahabs reign (853850 BCE, according to different dating) might be more early;
however, Salmaneser III the Assyrian king during 859824 BCE was a contemporary of
Ahab and fighted him in the Battle of Qarqar in 853 BCE, and Ahab was mentioned in
the Assyrian inscription. About 79 years lasted from the end of Solomons reign to the
beginning of the Ohozias reign but the astronomically calculated interval between the
events is shorter.
