Answer the following questions about your book: (10 points)

1. Why did you choose this book?
a. My cousin read this book and thought it was interesting, and so I decided to read
the book myself.
2. Setting (Where and when does the story take place?)
a. The novel The DaVinci Code starts off in a museum in France, near the US
Embassy in France. The main characters bounce all around the country and visit
Museums and mansions and banks while they are trying to evade police. Towards
the end of the book, the main characters fly to England to search for the Grail.
This story also takes place in the present day.
3. Who are the main characters?
a. The main protagonist is a Harvard professor of iconography, Robert Langdon who
was visiting France for a seminar. Along the way he pairs up with a French
Cryptographer, named Sophie Neveu, to search for the Holy Grail. While the pair
search for the Holy Grail, the pair seek refuge in the home of an old scholar who
is a Grail Enthusiast as well, and they leave for England to search for the grail.

4. Who is your favorite character? Why?

a. My favorite character from the novel, is Robert Langdon, for numerous reasons.
First of all, I like his dry sense of humor, as it adds some comic relief to the book.
I think the small jokes he makes in his actual seminars are entertaining and make
the book much easier to read. I also like Langdons ability with logical puzzles
and how he can generally figure out the poems and anagrams, faster than the
average person.
5. Which part of the book did you like the best? Explain why.
a. My favorite part of the book, was the plot twist towards the end, when the main
antagonist The Teacher is revealed to actually be Leigh Teabing, after he
assassinates his manservant Remi, and confronts Langdon as an enemy. This is
my favorite part, because I didnt expect that to happen, and it made the book and
the ending of the story much more interesting. I think that overall, this book is
very well written, and avid readers will gobble it up like a teenager would a pizza.

Plot: The DaVinci Code

The novel The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, is a novel that takes place in the present day
and starts off in France. The books starts with a Harvard professor of iconology, Robert Langdon,
being driven by a French Police officer to a museum to help decrypt clues to a murder case.
When Langdon arrives at the museum crime scene, he meets Bezu Fache, who is the captain of
the case. About half way through the case, a member of the French cryptology department
arrives with a message for Langdon. In the message, she tells Langdon that he is the prime
suspect for the crime.
She helps him escape the museum, and while on the run, start to decipher pieces of code
left behind by Sophies grandfather, who was murdered at the museum. They decrypt an address,
and realize that the key that they found at the museum must unlock something at the address.
When they arrive at the address, they realize that it is a Swiss bank, and the key that they have,
unlocks Sophies grandfathers vault in the bank. While this is happening, Fache puts out an
arrest warrant on the duo, and pours resources into finding their whereabouts. After escaping the
bank with the box they found in the vault, they head to the estate of Landons friend, Leigh
Teabing, who had his legs crippled at a young age due to Polio.
When they get there, Langdon realizes the box from the bank, holds the key to finding the
Holy Grail, which he and Teabing explain to Sophie is actually the tomb of Mary Magdalene.
While in Teabings estate, they are attacked by an Albino Monk named Silas, who was sent by a
bishop to prevent the discovery of the Holy Grail, because if the documents buried with Mary
Magdalene were made public, they would largely derail the Catholic Churchs teachings.
After subduing Silas and evading the French Police Force one again, Langdon and Sophie
leave the country for England, and are accompanied by Teabing and his manservant Remi, with

Silas as their hostage. When their unscheduled plane lands England, and the group narrowly
avoids the police, Teabing, Langdon and Sophie once again set to work deciphering the cryptic
messages left behind to find the Holy Grail.
As they visit a crypt to search for more clues, Remi betrays the group, releases Silas, and
takes the clues from Langdon and Teabing at gunpoint, taking Teabing as a hostage. After Remi
and Silas escape with Teabing, Silas returns to his headquarters in London, and Remi gets a call
from the teacher. It is revealed to us that the teacher is in fact Leigh Teabing, and the kidnapping
was all a hoax. Remi however had disobeyed the Teachers orders and showed his face at the
kidnapping, and so Langdon and Sophie knew he was involved. Teabing offers a drink to Remi,
but before giving him the drink, Teabing pours ground up peanuts into the drink. Remi who is
allergic to Peanuts sips the drink, and immediately dies on the spot of a reaction to the peanuts.
At the end of the novel, Teabing reveals himself to be the teacher, and threatens Langdon
and Neveu, and tells them to give him the key to finding the Grail. What he doesnt know
however, is the Langdon has already solved the puzzle and opened the box, and removed its
contents. When Teabing threatens him, Langdon throws the box into the air, and the crippled
Teabing in the fear of his lifes work being lost, dives to save it. When he catches the box, he
realizes it has already been opened and the contents removed. However he is now trapped on the
ground, due to his crippled legs. When the cops arrive, they arrest Silas and Teabing for murder
and assault, and Langdon is pronounced innocent. The book ends with Sophie meeting a woman
who she finds out is actually her grandmother, who she hasnt seen sense a young age. I really
enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to anyone who likes adventure or mystery novels.
