Theinitialsurvey,asrequiredbytherelevantregulations,shouldbeheldbeforetheshipisputinservice
andtheappropriatecertificateisissuedforthefirsttime.
General
Theinitialsurveybeforetheshipisputintoserviceshouldincludeacompleteinspection,withtestswhen
necessary,ofthestructure,machineryandequipmenttoensurethattherequirementsrelevanttothe
particularcertificatearecompliedwithandthatthestructure,machineryandequipmentarefitfortheservice
forwhichtheshipisintended.
Theinitialsurveyshouldconsistof:
anexaminationoftheplans,diagrams,specifications,calculationsandothertechnicaldocumentationto
verifythatthestructure,machineryandequipmentcomplywiththerequirementsrelevanttotheparticular
certificate
aninspectionofthestructure,machineryandequipmenttoensurethatthematerials,scantlings,
constructionandarrangements,asappropriate,areinaccordancewiththeapprovedplans,diagrams,
specifications,calculationsandothertechnicaldocumentationandthattheworkmanshipandinstallation
areinallrespectssatisfactory
acheckthatallthecertificates,recordbooks,operatingmanualsandotherinstructionsand
documentationspecifiedintherequirementsrelevanttotheparticularcertificatehavebeenplacedon
boardtheship.
Examinationofplansanddesigns
Anapplicationforaninitialsurveyshouldbeaccompaniedbyplansanddesignsasrequiredby
AdministrationorClassSociety,asappropriate,togetherwith:
theparticularsoftheship
anyexemptionssought
anyspecialconditions.
