Argentina, located in South America, is home to some of the most diverse

and authentic Latin American culture. It currently houses over 42 million people,
much of whom reside near the capital of Buenos Aires. Its various landscapes
provide tropical climates to tundra climates depending on the latitude. The official
language is Spanish seeing as 97% of the population is Spanish and Italian. Today,
Argentina is rich in culture, sports, and religion, but it hasnt always been that way.
The earliest settlements in Argentina revolve around many instances of war.
Like any new settlements, the history of Argentina emerged once the Spaniards
invaded in 1536 under the control of Pedro de Mendoza. Before the Spanish arrived,
the natives lived a nomadic life, hunting and gathering. However, once the Spanish
started to invade and look to conquer the land, which is when the constant conflicts
arose. The Spanish came to Argentina to continue the exploration and conquering
of South America. At this time, the world was focused on gold, glory, and God. The
Spanish in particular sought after regions with gold prospects in order to claim the
land under the glory of God for the Spanish king and queen. The natives despised
the Spanish for trying to kick them out of their homelands, so then became very
hostile. The natives were able to fend off the Spanish here and there, but could not
hold the Spanish off without other influence. In 1806, the British captured Buenos
Aires, kicking the Spanish out for good. Unfortunately, for Britain, the natives once
again proved there tenacity driving the invaders out. Eventually in 1816, the
Argentinian natives were finally able to secure their lands for good.
After these times of war and conflict with other countries, internal struggles
arose. The struggles of formulating a government became prevalent and the need
for a ruler and a constitution proved vital. The battle between the federalists and
those who wanted a strong central government caused Argentina to become filled

with political turmoil. In 1835 Juan Manuel de Rosas became the dictator of
Argentina blending federalism and aspects of a strong, centralized government. He
did not stay dictator for long, and Argentina kept undergoing political power
changes. Today, Argentina is a republic where the president is the chief of state and
head of the government. Argentinas economy is mixed which includes private
freedom and centralized economic planning and government regulation.
Argentina is a tropical region with lots of heat and humidity. There is a lot of
mountainous and desert land, with little lush and green areas. The temperatures
are mild throughout the year, with the occasional very hot summers. Argentina is
dominated by the oil and refinery industry, but originally started off has an
agricultural country. The indigenous people of the first settlement grew lots of
potatoes and squash and domesticated sheep and goats.
Since the earliest Argentinian settlement, Argentina has progressed
immensely. What started off as a small country, has flourished into a densely
populated area. However, Argentina continues to go through political shifts which
tends to make the political situation rocky. Despite this, the people in Argentina
have immense pride for their country and culture. Their love for soccer, food,
religion, and adventure make it such a unique country.
