Should consumers buy items from countries that endorse child labor?
Child Labor is the use of the underage minor in labor standards, business, and
industries. Oftentimes, these children work in unhealthy conditions are threatened with
violence, and often held out of school. In 1938, the Fair Labor Standards Act was passed to set
the minimum ages for certain jobs for teenagers by Congress. Unfortunately, the use of child
labor is still problematic. Because this is such a harmful practice, the use of child labor are
must stop and consumers must refuse to buy products that had been made using this unfair
practice.
Children who are under age being forced to go to work for long hours under any
condition, and held away from school called child labor. The kids, small and flexible, can get
through small places where adults do not fit, have to work in a laboratory under the unsafe
situation. Of an estimated 215 child laborers around the globe: approximately 114 million
(53%) are in Asia and the Pacific; 14 million (7%) live in Latin America, and 65 million (30%)
live in sub-Saharan Africa. (Child Labor Public Education Project, 3) Unfortunately, this
record showing that there is an abundance of children who still have to work and force away
from school. Because of working in long hours, preteen has no time to go to school. In
addition, this will hold them back from their education, lost their chance to socializing and
control their future. Its very difficult for people to find a better job with no education, they
will have no chance to change or improve their and younger generation living style. Not only

take away their opportunity to learn, child labor practiced also suffer them from heath injuries.
One-quarter of economically active children suffer injuries or illnesses while working,
according to an International Labor Organization survey of 26 countries. (Health Issue, 2)
Health problem mostly comes from chemical poisonings, injuries from machinery. On the
other hand, this leads to enduring lifelong defect, disability, or die at young ages. Child Labor
is totally immoral, it can create a threat to children's mental, physical safety, and comfort.
A child labor girl name Lakshmi was freed by forced employment when she was 13
years old. She was kidnapped by a man and being sexual assault. She was told to never leave
the house, yet she doesnt know where she is. Her job was cleaning the house, cooking, and
taking care of children. She said I was not allowed to rest. If I did something wrong or it was
not what they wanted, they hit me. (Child Labour: Indias hidden shame,1). Basically,
Lakshmi is pointing that they have to work for long hours with no break in between, they are
not allowed to drink water or going to the restroom during the working hours; in addition, the
boss will punish if she making any misconception. She was being threatened to destroy her
honor by saying that they will tell everyone in her village; she was afraid that will ruin her
dignity. Many other children who being abused by the kidnapper were live in fearful and
frightened to speak the truth; on the other hand, this leads the child labor practice to continue.
In the United States and many other countries, we provide laws to protect child labor;
however, the law doesnt apply on many occasions, the reason why child labor practice never
stop is because of people who still buying the products that made in child labor. In our recent
survey of 1,000 adults, 77 percent said they would not purchase clothing or other merchandise
if they were made aware that child labor had been involved. (Americans' Attitudes Toward
Child Labor Are Shifting,3). This survey showing us the strongly against on child labor of the

Americans; however, if very least amount of people buying products from child labor, the
child labor should not growing until now. This study telling the insight attitudes of American
about child labor. Even though child labor is very sensitive and having a lot of negative
impacts; therefore, child labor also benefits the world. Organizations should not be spending
their time fighting to abolish child labor but rather work alongside it.(Gasp! The Benefits Of
Child Labor In The Developing World,6). Those families who have children going to work
because they need money in order to survive. If no one buying their products, they have to
work with unpaid and couldnt support their family. In addition, there are many jobs that
preteens can go to work, and still have time to attended to school.
Organization tries to helps children who being controlled by child labor practice.
Abundance of people said that they would not like to involved in products that made in child
labor, but they dont know how or where the products are produce. Educate yourself is one of
the most important ways to help child children who being controlled under the practice. Use
the resources that you learned, share it with people around you to lets people know what
happened to the children that been controlled by there boss. more than 168 million child
labourers - 11% of all children in the world - who are working instead of learning ( 10
reasons why children dont go to school, 8). Because of working, children have no time to go
to school. The lack of not attended to school usually make the kids doesnt want to go to
classes. Therefore, working take most of the study hours and control preteen from set a high
goal for their life.
Children who are going to work to support family income in dangerous industries are
called child labor. Even though many companies said that they let the children work in the
safety places, however, the kids are easy to fit in many occasions; therefore, preteens have to

work in unsafe industries. On the other hand, preteen worker took away opportunity for an
adults to go to work, its a lot harder for the grown up to find a job. On the other hand, this
will make family income relied on their low payment kid. Children who work on tobacco
farms are exposed to nicotine, toxic pesticides, and other dangers. (Child Labor Impacts
Health and Education,2). Chemical poisoning having a big affection on the childs health or
they may die at the young age. Child labor must be stop as soon as possible, people should
educated themselves to take an action against child labor.
