I chose my topic because I thought that Galileos persecution was unfair. I
think he had the right to follow his beliefs and that it wasnt his fault that the people in his society decided to believe in him. He did do incorrect by writing down that the bible was wrong in his books because if that is part of someones beliefs then he should not judge it but I also feel like what he did by standing against them while knowing about this persecution was a very noble thing which showed he strongly believed that he was right with no doubt. This influences me a lot and I think that it influences many others too. I got a lot of my help from a website called www.inquiriesjournal.com which was quite helpful and gave me highlights and important information about this topic. It also had some pictures that I used on my website of Galileo and his portraits. I also got help from a website called www.princeton.edu where they had selected pages of a book that Galileo made called The Assayer. It showed me the kind of books he made and gave me information for my website as a primary source. I also got good information from website named http://www.catholic.com/ which showed this event from the view of catholic people. The website says that Galileo could have avoided this situation if he hadnt proclaimed it the truth in his books. The information in this website created suspense in my notes and showed how other people thought. It showed Galileos persecution from a different point of view and showed bias. I did overcome some difficulties while doing my history fair project. It was very hard for me to find a copy or a few pages of a book made by Galileo but the problem was resolved when I found a copy of one of the books made by him called the The Assayer even though it was not the whole book it was very helpful. I also had a problem finding other primary sources like original interviews, pictures, videos, audio clips, and autobiographies but there is no such thing. However, they were many paintings I found of him which were helpful in a way. Also some pictures of his notebook where he would write his notes in and other information that he would note. The rest of my project was quite easy because I had already made a website before in the past for NHD. My topic fits in this years National History Day theme/topic because the theme/topic is Taking a Stand in History and Galileo took a stand to prove his topic correct and himself innocent and right. Galileo took a stand against the church; the church of the Catholics who disagreed with him in many ways. If Galileo hadnt proven himself, or taken a stand against the church, than we wouldnt have known many scientific things we know today. Galileo took a very big and noble stand in history.
