the Global Impact features in World History: Patterns of Interaction. The video

summaries from the Reading Study Guide.

Teachers Edition
The Teachers Edition for World History: Patterns of Interaction also offers valuable
features for customizing instruction for Spanish-language students who are acquiring
English.
The two-page Planning Guide that opens each chapter lists key resources for use
with English learners. They appear in the section Customizing for Special
Populations under the heading English Learners: Resources in Spanish. Other
useful materials appear under the heading Struggling Readers. Consult these
resource lists as you plan your lessons.
In addition, the numerous teaching suggestions offered in the Teachers Guide
(along with the many activities that supplement them in the text) are well suited for
use with Spanish-speaking students. They help you to develop material in the textbook and thus enhance students understanding. Particularly recommended are the
point-of-use suggestions at the bottom of the reduced student edition pages. For
example, with students who are having difficulty reading in English, use the suggestions entitled Differentiating Instruction: Struggling Readers; to promote peer
learning and interaction among students of different levels of language prociency,
use the suggestions under Differentiating Instruction: English Learners.

Strategies for Establishing Meaning

It is important to note that while the focus in this section is on Spanish-speaking
students, the techniques outlined here may be used effectively with students of
any language background.
1. Preview the chapter thoroughly. Because new information can be most effectively integrated and applied when students have a concrete frame of reference,
previewing is an essential technique for aiding Spanish-language students.
Each chapter in World History: Patterns of Interaction begins with a two-page
opener that allows you to help students familiarize themselves with essential terms
and names, as well as situate events in time. Exploiting these pages fully through
class discussion can do much to clarify text material for students.
