Irvine High

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Hello!
My name is Megan Brophy and I will be your students Modern World
History teacher. I am a graduate of California State University, Fullerton,
where I received a Bachelor of Arts in History and am currently earning my
single subject teaching credential. I am a 2012 graduate of Irvine High
School and am very excited to be back student teaching at my Alma Mater.
The main academic objective of this class include enhancing your
students understanding of the past in order for them to better understand
the present and how it affects the future.
We will be studying modern world
2016-2017
history from the enlightenment period to the twenty first century. Students
will study the emergence of democratic ideals and have an understanding
of how it effects current world issues. As a class we will also be discussing
in detail the wars of the twentieth century such as World War One, World
War Two, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War.
My main goal for your students this semester is to not only learn
historical facts and significance, but also to learn study skills, as well as
social skills, that will serve them in the future. During this semester I plan
to provide a safe, comfortable, and open learning environment where your
students will feel safe communicating openly with their peers as well as
myself as the teacher. My class will challenge students to search within
themselves to develop their personal academic and character goals.
I am very excited to be guiding your student through history this
semester and am looking forward to getting to meet each and every one of
you at back to school night. This classroom management plan was
discussed with your students in class and will be posted on our class
website for further accessibility. If you have any questions or concerns,
please do not hesitate to contact me (email is the most efficient method) to
either talk electronically or to set up a meeting.
