COURSE DESCRIPTION
Histology: Introduction to the study of tissues and the histology of the different organs
and systems of the human body. Prerequisite: BIOL 1202 and BIOL 3090. Lecture 3, Lab
3, Cr 4
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. To provide an overview of cell structure and the organization of these cells into
tissues
2. To learn the structure and identification of a variety of tissues
3. To learn how these tissues are organized into organs and how this organization
supports the functions of these organs
ATTENDANCE
Attendance in both lecture and lab is essential. Absences may be subject to current
attendance regulations of the University.
EVALUATION OF STUDENTS
1. Lecture exams (4 x 50 = 200 points)
2. Lab exams: Identification of prepared slides (2 x 50 = 100 points)
3. Lab report Photomicrograph of selected tissue slides examined in lab (100 points)

4. Tissue slide preparation and PowerPoint presentation of slides (100 points)
Details will be provided in class)
COURSE GRADE:
The points obtained in exams, reports, and slide preparation will be added. The
letter grades will be
according to the following scale:
90%=A; 80-89%=B; 70-79%=C; 60-69%=D; and <59%=F

MAKEUP EXAMS
Makeup exam (only 1 per student) will be given only at the convenience of the
instructor and only in
the case of excused absences. An excused absence includes
illness sufficiently severe to require a visit to the doctor, or death in the immediate
family. Documentation will be required. A written request (email
is not
accepted) to take a makeup must be submitted in person to the instructor
within 3
working days after the missed exam. A student who missed an exam and failed to take
a
makeup will get 0 for the missed exam.
LAB REPORTS/ASSIGNMENTS
The weekly lab and the slide preparation reports are due during the last
laboratory session. These
will not
be accepted after the final exam. The
following penalty will apply for late submission of reports without acceptable and
documented reason:
Late by < 48 hours: 15 points
Late by 48 - 72 hours: 30 points
DROPPING COURSE
Final date for dropping without receiving a grade of a W: January 30, 2017
Final date for dropping receiving a grade of a W: March 24, 2017
Please make sure these dates correspond to the dates in the Universitys class
schedule
Please read the Universitys catalog regarding the limitation on a W grade for a
course

Other books are also available in the library.
REMINDERS:
There will be no use of cell phones and other electronic devices in class. All electronic
devices must be set on vibrate or silent during class. Use of any such device during a
test will be considered cheating and will be subject to the LSUA student code of
conduct.
Recording of lecture is not allowed. If you have a need to record lectures you must
bring a paper from the students services the ADA Coordinator
If you have any problem with the course please consult with the instructor
No eating or drinking in LSUA classrooms (capped bottled water is ok). No use of
tobacco products of any type.

i. Students are evaluated based on the points earned in all exams. The chance of
securing a passing grade in this course is very high provided a student regularly
attends class, does the assignments, study and seeks assistance with problems in
understanding the subject matter.
ii. Students are highly encouraged to make use of the office hours to have a one-to-one
discussion with the instructor.
