Dove sono i bei momenti
Opera: Le Nozze Di Figaro
Composer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Le Nozze Di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) is an opera buffa composed by
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1786. The opera continues the plot of Mozarts The
Barber of Seville wherein after a few years, the Count Almaviva has already
seemingly lost his love for the Countess (Rosina) and is now trying to woo Susanna,
the Countess servant and future wife of Figaro. Through the scheming of the
Countess, Susanna, and Figaro, the Count regains his love for the Countess
Almaviva.
Porgi, amor
(sung by Countess Rosina Almaviva)
Porgi, amor, qualche ristoro,
Al mio duolo, a'miei sospir!
O mi rendi il mio tesoro,
O mi lascia almen morir.
husband!
me] an
d'infedelt, di gelosia, di sdegno!
unheard-of mixture
Of infidelity, jealousy and
rage!
Prima amata, indi offesa, e alfin tradita,
at last betrayed,
You force me to seek help
and
from one
of my maids!
Dove sono i bei momenti
Di dolcezza e di piacer?
Dove andaro i giuramenti
Di quel labbro menzogner?

Summertime
(sung by Clara, a young mother)
Summertime,
An the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
An the cotton is high
Oh, yo daddy's rich
An yo mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don' you cry
One of these mornins
You goin to rise up singing
Then you'll spread yo wings
An you'll take to the sky
But till that morning
There's a nothin can harm you
With Daddy an Mammy standing by.
Elle a fui, la tourterelle!
Opera: Les Contes DHoffmann
Composer: Jacques Offenbach
Les Contes DHoffman (The Tales of Hoffman) is an opera fantastique in three
acts composed by Jacques Offenbach. The opera tells of the story of Hoffman and
his tales of love for three women: Olympia (a mechanical doll), Antonia (a young
girl), and Giulietta (a courtesan).
Elle a fui, la tourterelle! is sung by Antonia in the second act. She refers here
to Hoffman as her turtledove who has flown away. Antonia is afflicted by a
sickness. She has inherited her mothers voice. However, singing will cause her
death. In the end, she chose a life of passion than a life not lived.
Elle a fui, la tourterelle!
(sung by Antonia)
Elle a fui, la tourterelle!
Ah! souvenir trop doux!
Image trop cruelle!
Hlas! mes genoux,
Je l'entends, je le vois!
Je l'entends, je le vois!
We werent suited.
When two people feel that way
They shouldnt stay together.
Mama dear,
You often told me that I was beautiful,
And that my beauty deserved to find
A man someday
So rich, a man so powerful,
That he could give me anything
And make me like a princess
In olden days.
And so I waited,
Hoping someday he would come.
Dearest Mama,
Now Ive found him
And he loves me truly too.
Evry moment,
Were together,
We both know it had to be.
But, dear mama hes not free to marry
It is wrong for us to feel the way we do.
I know he needs me
And that I love him.
But I have to give him up
And we must part forever.
Always Through The Changing
(sung by Baby Doe)
Always through the changing
Of sun and shadow, time and space.
I will walk beside my love
In a green and quiet place.
Proof against the forms of fear,
No distress shall alter me.
I will walk beside my dear,
Clad in loves bright heraldry.
Sound the battles loud alarms.
Any foe I shall withstand.
In the circle of his arms
I am safe in Beulah Land.
