Excess Baggage
Should your baggage exceed the limitations of the Free Baggage allowance, an excess baggage charge needs to be paid.
For Domestic sectors within India, the excess baggage rate is INR 250 per kg.per coupon.
Service Tax will be applicable on the value reflected on all Excess Baggage tickets (EBTs), issued in India, except from the
exempted airports. As in the case of passenger tickets, the rate of Service Tax will be5.6% of the excess baggage amount
reflected on the EBT for economy class passengers and 8.4% of the excess baggage amount reflected on the EBT for
other than economy class passengers.

Airports exempted from Service Tax


Passengers originating or terminating in an airport located in the
state of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura or Bagdogra in West
Bengal. The exemption therefore applies to/from the following airports: Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Jorhat, Lilabari, Silchar,
Tezpur, Imphal, Shillong, Aizawl, Dimapur, Agartala, Bagdogra

The scheme will be valid across all domestic flights, including domestic legs of international flights. The scheme will
have four slabs and each slab will have a uniform discount rate of 10%. A passenger can call the call centre or go to the
Air India booking office and purchase for himself a baggage allowance in return for payment. E.g. one can make a
payment of INR 1125 and purchase a baggage allowance with a maximum limit of 5 Kgs. Now the passenger can travel
with an excess baggage going up to a maximum of 5 Kgs without going through the process of making the payment at
the airport. Also by purchasing through the call centre or Air India booking office he will be paying 10% less than he
would have paid at the airport. Passenger will not get any refund for any unutilized excess baggage. In the example
even if he carries 3 Kgs excess baggage, he will not be refunded for the unutilized 2 Kgs.
The terms and conditions are as follows:
1.Pre Paid Excess baggage cannot be purchased through call centre or booking office (CTO) within 24 hours of
departure.
2.Pre Paid Excess baggage cannot be purchased throughAir India website.
3.In case Pre Paid Excess Baggage is not bought in advance, Normal Excess baggage charges will apply at the time of
check-in.
4.Pre Paid Excess baggage is not applicable for Multicity travel.
5.In case the booking is cancelled as per the fare terms, amount for Pre Paid excess baggage purchased through call
centre or booking office (CTO) will be refunded in full.
6.Passenger may cancel his/her pre paid baggage allowance up to 6 hours prior to scheduled or revised departure, as
the case may be, for flights within India.
7.In case of date or time change, the pre paid excess baggage purchased will be associated to the new flight.
8.re Paid Excess baggage purchased through call centre or booking office (CTO) is non-endorsable, non-transferable and
not applicable for infant.
9.No part or full refund will be permitted at the check-in counter, for baggage weighing lower than the purchased
excess baggage limit. I.e. amount for unutilized excess baggage weight cannot be refunded or used on subsequent
flights.
10.Refund on pre paid excess baggage purchased will be applicable:
(i) If the passenger chooses to cancel the flight booking 6 hours before departure or
(ii) If Air India cancels the flight.
11.Purchase of excess baggage through call centre or booking office (CTO) is applicable for passengers holding a valid eticket having ticket number commencing with 098 series.
12.Purchase of excess baggage through call centre or CTO is not permitted for Alliance Air and Air Indias own
international, code share and interline flights. It is permitted only for the domestic passengers flying on domestic flights
and on domestic legs of international flight
13.In case of 'No Show', pre paid excess baggage purchased will not be refunded.
14.Pre Paid Excess baggage purchased must be utilized by the passenger for the flight booked and for checked-in
baggage only.
15.Pre Paid Excess baggage facility cannot be used for transportation of any type of cargo.
16.In case a passenger is holding a return ticket and wants to purchase pre paid excess baggage for both the segments
in his PNR/ticket, he will required to purchase two separate EMDs for the above.

Excess Baggage Weight System (For International travel)


Weight System
In the weight system the excess baggage charges per kilo is 1.5% of the highest normal direct one way economy class
fare. These charges will be in effect on the date of issuance of the excess baggage ticket.

Oversize baggage fee between India and USA


If oversize baggage (including TV) is part of the free baggage allowance and is under 62" in total linear dimensions
then no extra baggage charges apply.
If oversize baggage (including TV) is an additional piece and under 62" in total linear dimensions the fee is USD200
to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR/San Francisco.
If oversize baggage (including TV) is part of the free baggage allowance and is in excess of 62" and within 80" in total
linear dimensions the fee is USD200 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR/San Francisco.
If the oversize baggage (including TV) is an additional piece and measures between 62" to 80" in total linear
dimensions the fee is USD400 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR/San Francisco.
If oversize baggage (including TV) is part of the free baggage allowance and is in excess of 80 in total linear
dimensions the fee is USD600 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR/San Francisco.
If the oversize baggage (including TV) is an additional piece and exceeds 80" in total linear dimensions the fee is
USD600 to/from Chicago/JFK/EWR/San Francisco.

First 10 kgs (1-10 kg) of additional baggage over and above the standard Free Baggage Allowance will be at a slab rate of
USD 40. These rates will be the same for journeys boarding ex Gulf or ex India. These special rates are not applicable if
there is a promotion of additional FBA of 10 kgs being given for some particular period and / or Sectors.
Baggage over and above Excess Baggage of 10kgs, the Excess Baggage rate will be 1 .5% of the highest normal direct
one way economy class fare per kilo.
The applicable conversion rates for payment in local currencies will apply.
