INTRODUCTION

Radiology is the field of medicine that uses radiation and radiation therapy to diagnose
and treat diseases. Radiation treatment is used to kill cancerous cells. X-rays and MRIs are used
to create the images of a patients bones and internal organs.

Radiology departments rely on

doctors, nurses and technicians working together to effectively treat patients. These different
positions require training ranging from an associates degree to a degree from an accredited
medical school. Most positions will also require a license professional certification .
Radiologists are physicians who specialize in the use of radioactive imaging technologies,
including X-rays, MRIs, fluoroscopy and ultrasounds. Depending on their specialty, they may
also use radioactive materials to treat diseases, most commonly cancer. Radiologists spend most
of their time reviewing test results, images and scans in order to develop an accurate diagnosis
and treatment recommendation. They also consult with patients, explaining their treatment
options and answering any questions they may have.

Radiologic technologists , the professionals who operate imaging equipment, are required
to complete an associates degree program in Radiologic Technology . They operate MRI and Xray machines, monitor patients during testing and report results to physicians. Their other duties
include keeping patients calm during tests, which requires excellent communication skills. Some
technicians also repair and maintain the equipment they use.

Radiologic technologists, also known as radiographers, perform diagnostic imaging

examination, such as X-ray, on patients. MRI technologists operate magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) scanners to diagnostic images.

The Radiologic and MRI technologists typically do the following duties:

-

Adjust and maintain imaging equipment

Precisely follow orders from physicians on what areas of the body to image
Prepare patients for procedures, including taking a medical history and answering

questions about the procedure

Protect the patient by shielding exposed areas that do not need to be imaged
Position the patient and the equipment in order to get the correct image
Operate the computerized equipment to take the images
Work with physicians to evaluate the images and to determine whether additional images

need to be taken, and

Keep detailed patient record.

Radiologic technologists specialize in X-ray and computed tomography (CT) imaging.

Some radiologic technologist prepare a mixture for the patient to drink that allows soft tissue to
be viewed on the images that the radiologist reviews.

Radiologic technologist might also

specialize in mammography . Mammographers use low dose X-ray systems to produce images
of the breast. Technologist may be certified in multiple specialization.

Work Environment
Radiologic technologists work in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Radiologic
technologist held about 197,000 jobs in 2014. The industries that employed the most Radiologic
technologist in 20154 were as follows:

-hospital, state, local and private

-offices of physicians

59%
21%

-medical and diagnostic laboratories

8%

-outpatient care centers

4%

Technologist are often on their feet for long periods and may need to lift or turn patients
who are disabled.

Injuries and Illnesses

Like other healthcare workers, Radiologic technologists may be exposed to infectious
diseases. In addition, because radiologic technologist work with imaging equipment that yuses
radiation, they must wear badges that measures radiation levels in the radiation area. Detailed
records are kept on their cumulative lifetime documents. Although radiation hazards exist in this
occupation, they are minimized by the use of protective lead aprons, gloves, and other shielding
devices, and by the badges that monitor exposures to radiation.

Education
An associates degree is the most common educational requirement for Radiologic
Technologist. There are also post secondary education programs that lead to graduate certificate
or bachelors degree. Education program typically include both classroom study and clinical

work. Coursework includes anatomy, pathology, patient care, radiation, physics and protection
and image evaluation.
Radiologic technologists must acquire important qualities such as: He should be detail
oriented, meaning must follow exact instructions to get the images needed to be diagnosed. He
should have an interpersonal skills; since radiologic technologists work closely with patient who
may be extremely in pain or mentally stressed. Technologist must be able to put the patient at
ease to get usable images. He should be having math skills, meaning he may need to calculate
and mix the right doses of chemicals used in imaging procedure. He should have a physical
stamina; after work on their feet for long periods during their shift and they must be able to lift
and move patients who need assistance. And lastly , he should have technical skills; he must
understand to operate complex machinery.
Radiologic technologists median annual wages in 2015 is $56,670.00 , however the
Radiologic and MRI technologist was $58,120.00.

Employment of Radiologic technologist is projected to grow 9% from 2014-2024, faster

than the average for all occupations. As the population grows older, there will be an increase in
medical conditions such as cancer or Alzheimers disease, which require imaging as a tool for
making diagnosis.

So much for the discussion on the Radiologic technology and the Radiologic technologists,
in understanding the study , we should have to discuss what is the extent of its job effectiveness.

Many of us could benefit from tweaking at least a few of our skills, in order to become
even more effective. For instance, perhaps youve always excelled at time management. But
how much time do you put into learning new skills, or staying on top of industry trends?
Effectiveness is the degree to which objectives are achieved and the extent to which target
problems are solved. In contrast to efficiency, effectiveness is determined without reference to
costs and whereas efficiency means doing the thing right effectives means doing the right
thing.
