as asking questions, making
predictions, recognizing
relationships among story elements
and drawing conclusions.
connect personal experiences and
knowledge of words, sentences and
story patterns from previous
reading experiences to construct
and confirm meaning.
use knowledge of the
organizational structures of print
and stories, such as book covers,
titles, pictures and typical
beginnings, to construct and
confirm meaning.
By the end of the lesson the students will be able to do these three things listed above.
During the lesson the teacher will be asking the students to make connections with some
of their personal experiences with animals or farms. The purpose of the lesson is to help
the students understand the important role animals play in our lives as well as to bring
some of the animals they may not know about to their attention. They will learn about
what animals do on the day to day and the ways in which the animals help farmers.
Participation task:
Comprises the major portion of the lesson. It is the learning experience,
designed to help learners meet the learning objective.
Teacher activity: The teacher will begin the lesson by asking the class to sit down in a
circle; once the students are all seated the teacher will then go over some rules of what
is expected during the lesson.
-teacher will engage students by introducing the book and asking students questions on
what they think the book is going to be about.
-teacher will then read the book to the class but will be stopping throughout the book to
make sure that the students understand whats going on.

what the story
Was about and what they have learned about animals.
-students will be asked to draw 4 pictures to go with their journal, with the first one being
what happens at the beginning, what happens next, what happens towards the middle
and what happens and the at the end.
Post-assessment :
-The journal reflection will be used to assess students to see what they have
learned from the lesson. There will be four parts to the journal that asks students
to write and give a visual on what they have learned. A mark out of 20 will be
given based on how accurate the students answers are.
-Students will be quizzed on the animals that live on the farm and will be asked
about animals habits as well as to what kinds of food the animals like to eat.
Summary/closure : to conclude the lesson, students will be asked to return their
reflection journals to the teacher. The teacher will then go over the journals with the
students to further explain the purpose of the story to the students. After the journals, the
