- Negates super effective
damage against the flying
type, but not all flying-type
Pokmon (i.e. a Gyrados, a
Water-Flying type

super effective damage
from an electric-type attack,

only take x2 damage
instead of its usual x4.).
- Doubles the power of
Weather Ball, without
changing its type.

Along with Weather Effects, there is another category of moves and abilities that
cause Terrain Effects, which are similar to Weather in that they affect all Pokmon on
the field, with the exception of Pokmon off of the ground (i.e. Flying-Type
Pokmon, Pokmon with the ability levitate, etc.) 2. Terrain Effects were introduced in
generation 6. There are currently four different Terrain Effects, and they have effects as
follows:

- Pokmon will recover 1/16 of their HP
per turn, which effectively cancels out the
damage taken from Hail and Sandstorm,
if they are also active.

increased by 50%.
- The move Nature Power becomes the
Grass-type move Energy Ball.
- Ground-type moves such as
Earthquake, Bulldoze, and Magnitude are
reduced in power by 50%.
- Pokmon holding Grassy Seeds will
consume them, boosting their defense by
one stage in the process.
- Status conditions cannot be afflicted,
and will not affect Pokmon.
- If both the target and the attacker are on
the ground, the power of Dragon-type
moves are decreased by 50%.
- The move Nature Power becomes the
Fairy-type move Moon Blast.
- Pokmon holding Misty Seeds will
consume them, boosting their special
defense by one stage in the process.
- Pokmon cannot fall asleep.
- The power of Electric-Type moves is
boosted by 50%.
- The move Nature Power will become
the Electric-type move Thunderbolt.
- The Ability Surge Surfer activates.
- Pokmon holding Electric Seeds will
consume them, boosting their defense by
one stage in the process.
- Priority moves do not affect Pokmon,
and fail when used3.
- The move Nature Power becomes the
Psychic-type move Psychic.
- The power of Psychic-type moves is
increased by 50%.
- Pokmon holding Psychic Seeds will
consume them, boosting their special
defense by one stage in the process.
Please note that Terrain Effects to not naturally occur in the overworld, and can
only be activated by moves and abilities. Terrain Effects usually last for 5 turns after
activated, but similarly to Weather, can be extended if the Pokmon that activated the
Terrain Effect holds the item Terrain Extender. This will extend the duration to 8 turns,
similarly to the rocks that Extend Weather.
If a Pokmon is holding a Heat Rock, Damp Rock, Smooth Rock, or Icy Rock, it
will increase the amount of turns that Harsh Sunlight, Rain, Sandstorms, or Hail are
active to 8 respectively.
2
When referring to the Terrain info table, assume that all of the effects listed will
only affect Pokmon on the ground, unless otherwise specified.
3
Pokmon that use a priority move to affect the Weather/Terrain, or moves that
only affect the Pokmon that used the move, will not fail when used.
