Dear Missionaries:
The LDS Hymn Book
explains that, some of the
greatest sermons are
preached by the singing of
hymns. I agree so today I
sermonize on the subject
of consecration through
the use of hymns. It is no
secret, hymns play an
essential role in
spirituality, revelation, and
conversion. They teach
profound doctrines in
memorable and beautiful
ways. President J. Reuben
Clark Jr. said, We get
nearer to the Lord through
music than perhaps
through any other thing
except prayer.
Many a hymn preaches the
eternal doctrine of
consecration. Most often
consecration is described
in lyrics that teach of
letting our will be
swallowed up in the will of
God. (see Mosiah 15:7)
Hymn after hymn pleads
for the wisdom and power
to understand and do
Gods will. The hymns
impart a cosmic fact often
taught by Elder Neil A.
Maxwell: Only by aligning
our wills with Gods is full
happiness to be found. A
few examples from
familiar hymns will
demonstrate.

the spirit by discerning concerns and helping
them overcome those concerns.

Maintain a regular sleep schedule. Get up on time, regardless of how poorly you slept.
If you cant fall asleep after 30 minutes, sit up in bed and read until drowsy.
Learn relaxation skills such as deep breathing, relaxing muscles, and visualizing calming scenes. (I have a handout if you need one).
Try mental activities that are routine and boring, such as counting or mental singing.
Resolve concerns: Identify, think through, accept, and resolve worries, fears and concerns.
Listen to mission approved music and audio. This might include relaxing music, nature sounds, or verbal
relaxation descriptions.
If you wake up during the night, get up after 10 to 15 minutes and read or write in your journal.
Be cautious about sleep medication. Consult with Sister Clark before using.
Sister Clark
Our investigator is Catholic and very shy person. She doesnt like to pray and before we met her she knew nothing about prayer. We taught
her about prayer and said she needs to pray every single day with a sincere heart and real intent and not by memorizing. We shared a few
verses in 2 Nephi where its says there that the Spirit teacheth a man to pray, but the devil teacheth not a man to pray. While we explained to
her about prayer I felt the Spirit guide us to emphasize it properly. We invited her to offer a closing prayer. At first she dont want to pray, but
we taught that we need to have more faith to overcome the doubt in our hearts. And after that she offered a prayer. It was a very wonderful
experience. After she prayed her countenance was changed. She smiled with us and she was thankful for what weve taught to her.
