FINAL PROJECT REFLECTION

We have chosen a unit named Jobs for the 4th grade students
from the National Curriculum of English Teaching as a Second
Language. We have selected this unit because jobs have an
important role in our lives and provides a clue about students
future. Besides, by using this unit, we integrated grammar
structure and vocabulary related to Jobs into our teaching
method.
The most difficult part of our project was to determine the unit
that we have studied on. We have tried to build the new
information on the previous knowledge. Also, we have had
trouble in making lesson appropriate for the students level. We
have prepared the lesson in a way that it can address to all the
students that have different types of intelligence.
As our unit is about what people do in particular situation in
society, we could teach jobs by associating with real life. We
generally have given information about basic jobs according to
their English level. In our lesson plan, we have taught
like/dislike structures and using question forms with like/dislike
in present tense. We have tried to make lessons more enjoyable
with flashcards, infographics, songs and games to attract the
students attention. How much time they need to internalize
these topics has affected our preparation process.
To talk about our standards and objectives, we have set realistic
and useful goals for our students. We wanted the students to
associate the English words related to jobs with their daily life
and asked them to define where people work and what they do
to earn their lives. In addition, we thought that the dialogues
would be beneficial for their learning process.
We have used lots of visuals such as posters and pictures in
Prezi in order to make the topic more concrete and permanent.
Moreover, we have used concept map to demonstrate the
relationship between jobs and related words. We have utilized
flashcards to make lessons enjoyable. Also, we have benefitted
from Animato to review the whole lessons. Before the exam, the
quiz helped us to make students ready to the exam.

We have used an eclectic approach for the students as we

thought that using only one method is wrong for a teacher to
use. Our instructional activities are based on presentation,
tutorial, Grammar-Translation Method, discussion,
Suggestopedia and cooperative learning. The reason why we
used these methods is that we have wanted to improve the
students social and communicative skills. We have distributed
worksheets and assigned homework to reinforce the topics.
Lastly, we have evaluated students thanks to the quiz and
exam by observing communicative competence and social
skills. We also evaluate whether our teaching methods,
materials, etc. are appropriate for the needs of the students.
