Unit Code: BSBWHS201
Unit name: Contribute to health and safety of self and others

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work in a manner that is healthy
and safe in relation to self and others and to respond to emergency incidents. It covers
following work health and safety (WHS) and emergency procedures and instructions,
implementing WHS requirements and participating in WHS consultative processes.

Unit purpose

It applies to individuals who require a basic knowledge of WHS to carry out work in a
defined context under direct supervision or with some individual responsibility, in a range
of industry and workplace contexts.

This unit is not graded. Your result will be recorded as achieved competence (AC) or not

Assessment conditions

Submission dates

Submission of assessment events are flexible to your own personal needs. You should
discuss a timeline with your facilitator in order to determine suitable dates to submit each
assessment event for marking.

Submission
instructions

Your assessment events must be submitted online via the TAFEnow website.

Complete each of your assessment events and save your files with the event name
and your own name for example: Event1_john_smith.

Upload your assessment event files and any other additional attachments to the
space provided in the TAFEnow online learning platform.

Note: If your assessment event requires you to use a different file naming convention (i.e. an
organisations file naming convention), place this file name in the footer of the document
then upload the file using the naming convention stated above.

Assessment events
Assessment event 1 Theory questions
This event requires you to submit a completed answer sheet that demonstrates your understanding of how to work
safely, apply safety requirements and take part in WHS processes.
Your assessment event must include the following item:
1. Completed theory questions answer sheet.
These items must address the criteria as listed in Table 1.

You must satisfactorily complete and submit all theory questions.

Assessment event 2 Workplace inspection
This event requires you to submit a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your ability to identify and report on
workplace hazards.
Your evidence must include the following items:
1. Workplace inspection checklist.
These items must address the criteria as listed in Table 2.

Marking criteria

You must meet the below criteria in order to successfully complete this assessment event.
Conduct a WHS inspection of your workplace (or if you are not currently working, use a classroom, office or
home study environment) using the Workplace inspection checklist. Submit a completed checklist that shows
that you have:
a) Considered all items on the list during inspection
b) Documented any immediate action taken where relevant
c) Provided recommendations for further actions where relevant.

Assessment event 3 Case study
This event requires you to describe how you would follow workplace procedures in responding to an emergency
incident.
Your evidence is based on this Plan2go case study and must include:
1. Completed case study template.

You must meet the below criteria in order to successfully complete this assessment event.
Using the Plan2go case study template and using the fire evacuation procedure, describe in your own words
the steps you would take to leave the building safely and ensure the safety of others.

Assessment event 4 Scenario
This event requires you to answer a number of questions that demonstrates your knowledge of how to report incidents,
who to report them to and ways to reduce risk.
Your evidence is based on this Plan2go scenario must include:
1. Your responses to the scenario.
