The winning design for an Automobile Museum in Nanjing, China by the firm
3GATTI is innovative and iconic in its conception. An entirely novel concept
unique to the design is the two distinct methods of viewing offered by the
project. A museum for cars, the scheme presents visitors with the opportunity
to experience the history it details either while walking or while driving.

Composed of two interlocking spiral ramps, a conditioned ramp-space details

the history of the automobile in chronological order, from the most historic to
the most contemporary. On the outside of this space, the realm of the cars
presents an inverse view. Whilst traveling in the object of modern creation,
visitors view first the most recent models and slowly progress up the ramps
to the most antiquated. The multiple paths make it possible to first drive to
the top and from there, park and walk down the more gentle ramps to the
bottom, experiencing both collections. From the ground level termination,
visitors can then take an elevator back up and drive back down.

Throughout, the ramped building- resembling cut, folded and stretched

paper, offers a multitude of varying viewpoints for viewing the objects on
display. Moving away from only looking down on the automobile from headheight, inclines with cars held at extreme angles lend views otherwise
inaccessible to viewers- showing views that were designed but never seen or
appreciated fully.
