Corporate identity

Corporate identity is often seen as a collection of visual elements, which are


used in various applications to promote the image of an organisation. It is used
to make a company/brand recognisable to the public. A corporate identity uses
three aspects to achieve its identity to its audience:
1. Corporate design- The overall colour, logo, shape, size etc Also, how it
relates to the target audience or channels ethos.
2. Corporate communication-The sharing of information in a business. How it
advertises itself to attract their target audience and also to give them a
channel identity.
3. Corporate behaviour- This represents the channels values/ ethos. The kind
of programmes they show and what stands out as important for that
channel. Also, the shows which reflect their value are something which is
included.

From observing certain E4 idents I would personally say that the channels target
audience lies somewhere between the ages of 16-34 year olds and more
predominantly aimed at females rather than males. A particular aspect of the
design that I like is how extremely colourful it is even by just using one stand-out
colour helping to catch the audiences attention. I also appreciate the
randomness of the idents. Throughout one ident that I watched I noticed a
variety of random and odd objects that appear in the Mise En Scene, for example
a living room, grass, robots, rockets etc. These help to give the ident a high
density of information. E4 have decided to use such things to represent their
channel in a specific way in order to appeal to their target audience. This is
because the idea of randomness, diversity, creativity etc. are values that are
particularly held and appreciated by their young target audience who are
approximately between the ages of 16-34.Another
aspect of the ident I observed is to look at how it is
pushing technology in order to maximise its creative
communication with the audience.
E4 shows that they are targeting a target audience
of teens/young adults based through their corporate
behaviour. E4 airs range of different channels
varying from dramas to comedies all which are
aimed at the target audience. Programmes such as
the inbetweeners are aimed towards the target
audience, so this particular show and shows with a
similar genre are considered important for the channel.
