1. Overview
H0FL-S01100SN is a standard network converter, realizing G.8040
compliant GFP encapsulation and de-capsulation of Ethernet frames for
transmission over an E1 channel.
With the increasing popularity of IP based applications, carriers wish to use
the rich legacy E1 resources to quickly set up broadband services for their
customers. H0FL-S01100SN is designed to meet this demand. Ethernet frames
are encapsulated into and de-capsulated from, E1 data stream transported over a
standard E1 channel. The converter is standard based, confirming to ITU-T
G.8040 and G.7043 recommendations, therefore it can interoperate with other
standard compliant Ethernet over E1 equipment from other manufacturers.
Supports 802.1Q VLAN and port VLAN; supports input rate limit;
Ethernet ports support 10/100M, full duplex, half duplex, as well as autonegotiation mode;
Supports local Ethernet NM port, SNMP NM protocol, in-band and/or outof-band NM modes;
Supports querying Ethernet Rx/Tx bytes count, CPU and memory usage
rate through NMS;
Easy installation; no settings are needed when used for p2p application; and
compatible with H0FL-S01100 and H0FL-SF01100;
Multiple power supply options: +24V DC, -48V DC, ~220V AC, -48V DC
or ~220V AC.

2. Typical Application
H0FL-S01100SN can connect LANs in two different places. Because of the
distance, it is not feasible to use Ethernet line. And together with the high cost of
the dedicated Ethernet link, it is better to use the obtained E1 channels for
transportation, which only requires a pair of H0FL-S01100SN devices at each
end of E1 lines to realize the data access of the users conveniently and quickly
and enable Ethernet data to be transmitted in E1, as well as support SNMP
monitoring. H0FL-S01100SN can interwork with the corresponding card
S01100/SF01100 of central office CO device S01100/SF01100, but at this time
it does not support remote monitoring. It can also interconnect with CO device
H9MO-LMXE/GXS06 or standard Ethernet over E1 converter from other
makers.
Typical applications of H0FL-S01100SN are shown in Figure 2-1 and
Figure 2-2.

E1 Port:
E1 port of H0FL-S01100SN uses RJ-48C socket, whose signal definition is
given in Table 3-3 and whose impednce can be 75 or 120, which is selected
by the 4-position DIP switch on the bottom plate of the device. When DIP
switch 1-2 (ON) is turned up, it is 75; when turned down, 120.

H0FL-S01100SN can choose the local clock (by default) or E1 line clock
though CO NMS. When the latter one is adopted, if E1 signal loss occurs, it will
switch to the local clock automatically, and when the line recovers, it will extract
clock from this E1. When the device is used for point-to-point application, a
master clock and a slave clock must be set, i.e. local clock at one end and E1
line clock at the other end must be set.
Note: When conducting E1 loopback test, the clock of the device must
be set to the local clock.
Ethernet Port
H0FL-S01100SN provides 4 Ethernet electrical ports externally, which are
standard RJ-45 twisted-pair ports. RJ-45 connector and its pin definition are
shown below.

At Ethernet socket, there are two LEDs, which are defined inTable 3-1.
The first 3 DATA ports (marked with DATA1-3) of H0FL-S01100SN are
10/100Base-Tx Ethernet switching ports, and they can divide VLAN to realize
port isolation; the 4th 10/100M adaptive Ethernet Electrical port (marked with
H0FL-S01100SN Converter Users Manual V1.4
DATA4/NM) can be used as local NM port and Ethernet port under in-band
NM mode.
Ethernet of H0FL-S01100SN conforms to standards like ITU-T G.7043,
ITU-T G.8040, IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.1Q and adopts standard GFP
encapsulation protocol. Ethernet electrical port supports auto-negotiation mode
and 10/100M, full/half duplex mode.
H0FL-S01100SN supports the transparent transmission of Ethernet data
and VLAN setting based on port or 802.1Q, and the range of VLAN ID is
1~4094.
H0FL-S01100SN supports LCAS function, which is enabled by default.
For single E1 converter, supporting LCAS function is for the interconnection
with devices that support LCAS function, for example, if H0FL-S01100SN is
interconnecting with CO H9MO-LMXE or GXS06, LCAS of them should be set
to the same.
Ethernet ports support rate limit function, and input rate limit can be set
through NMS. The supported rate limit is 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 and
2048Kbit/s. There is no rate limit by default.
Ethernet port supports LFP (link fault pass-through) function based on E1
link, which is disabled by default and can be enabled through NMS. When LFP
function is enabled, connections of Ethernet ports (not including NM port) in the
link can be detected automatically, when an Ethernet port is disconnected or E1
link is interrupted, the Ethernet port of the link partner device with the same
sequence number will be forced to Link Down, so as to facilitate tracing network
connection failure.
H0FL-S01100SN supports MAC address learning function. MAC addresses
of data packets can be queried and up to 2048 table entries are supported.

Power Port:
On the left side of the rear panel, there is a power input port. Power supply
type supports +24V DC, -48V DC, ~220V AC, -48V DC or ~220V AC. When
+24V DC and -48V DC power supply is used, DC 22 socket is provided; when
~220V AC, -48V DC or ~220V AC power supply is used, ~220V standard AC
power socket is provided. Users can select the power supply type as needed.
For DC-Only version, use the color-coded wires on the open end of the
power cord for power connection. Red is for high potential, i.e. GND for 48V (or +24V); Blue is for low potential, i.e. -48V (or GND for +24V).
When inserting power plug, pay attention to direction of locking lever.

6. Device Monitoring
The default IP address of H0FL-S01100SN is 192.192.4.2. During actual
networking, IP addresses must be assigned to the device at each end first. In the
network, the IP address of each node must be unique.
6.1
NM Instruction
H0FL-S01100SN supports two NM modes: out-of-band NM and in-band
NM, which can be set through NMS. When setting out-of-band NM, the 4th
Ethernet port (marked with DATA4/NM) is fixed as out-of-band NM port. Inband NM mode means that E1 transmits Ethernet service and monitoring
information at the same time. When setting in-band NM, NM port can be any
Ethernet port of the device, therefore the 4th Ethernet port can also be used as
service port. But to ensure the smoothness of NM channel effectively, it is
recommended to use the 4th Ethernet port as NM port. When dividing VLAN,
the tag attribute of the 4th Ethernet port fixes to untag, and cannot be set to tag.
6.2
through Ethernet NM port. If the factory IP address is modified and the current
address is forgotten, you can turn down DIP switch TEMP-IP to make the device
running at a fixed IP (192.192.192.192), so as to query the devices actual
address through Telnet, and the host address mask needs to be modified to
255.255.255.0. Five minutes after turning down the switch, the device will
return to the actual address regardless of whether the user turn up the switch or
not.
The devices IP address, subnet mask, gateway and MAC address can be
modified through NMS or Telnet command. Detailed descriptions of modifying
30
through NMS can be found in online help of NMS. Telnet command can be
modified through the following methods.
Log in Telnet. Both the user name and the password are root in lower
case. Under the path usr/app/tools or usr/application/tools, executing ipconfig
can query the devices type, program version, IP address, subnet mask, gateway,
MAC address and etc.; executing set_addr can set the devices IP address,
subnet mask, gateway, MAC address and etc.; and executing tools can perform
things like online update of programs. Details are shown in Figure 6-1:
31
6.3
Device Monitoring
H0FL-S01100SN supports SNMP NM protocol, after connecting its NM
monitored, and after establishing Socket link, the remote device can be
monitored too.
H0FL-S01100SN supports NE auto-discovery function. For a detailed
introduction of the NM monitoring software of the device, please refer to online
help.
7. Troubleshooting
