System Requirements
System requirements of H108L are as follows:

The ISP provides ADSL/Ethernet Internet access service.

One PC with Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC).

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

ZXV10 H108L Home Gateway Maintenance Manual

For wireless access, an external or built-in 802.11b/g

wireless NIC is required.
Make sure that the operating system of each PC connected
into the network is one of the following: Windows 98,
Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows VISTA,
Linux.
Make sure that each PC connected into the network is
correctly performed network configuration.
To configure the system via the web-page-based
configuration interface, make sure that at least one PC in the
LAN is installed a Web browser such as Microsoft Internet
Explorer (version6.0 or above) or Netscape Communicator
(version4.0 or above).
H108L should obtain the IP address by one of the following
ways:

Static IP address

Dynamic IP address from a DHCP server

IP address assigned during PPPoE dialing

The user should set the gateway server address and DNS
server address provided by ISP on the device.

Chapter

Installation
Hardware Installation
Installation Preparation
1. Unpack the package.
2. Take out the H108L, the power adapter and cables.
3. For wireless access, choose the installation place where the
wireless signal is strong.
Warning: Leave enough spaces around the H108L for heat
dissipation purpose. Do not block the vent and keep the
device away from heat sources and direct sunlight.

Connecting WAN Interface

H108L supports ADSL uplink mode and Ethernet uplink mode.

ADSL uplink connection:

1. Connect the telephone line of the subscriber to the Line port

of the ADSL splitter.
2. Connect the Modem port of the ADSL splitter to the DSL
interface of the H108L with a RJ-11 telephone line.
3. Connect the Phone port of the ADSL splitter to a telephone
set with a RJ-11 telephone line.
Warning: If a telephone set is required to be installed
before the ADSL splitter, a voice filter is required to be
installed before the ADSL splitter. To reduce interference,
only one voice filter is allowed. Installing a telephone set

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

directly before the ADSL splitter will cause that the H108L
cannot connect to the office-end devices.

Ethernet uplink connection:

The LAN1 port of H108L can be used to connect the WAN in
Ethernet uplink mode.

1. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connector to

the LAN1 port of the H108L.
2. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable with RJ-45
connector the WAN interface provided by the ISP.

Connecting LAN Interface

A cross-over or straight-through Ethernet cable can be used

to connect the LAN port of the H108L to the NIC of the users
computer or other network device.
The LAN port of the H108L can automatically negotiate the
connection speed (10 Mbps or 100 Mbps) and transmission
mode (half-duplex or full-duplex).
The LAN port of the H108L can be connected to a hub or
Ethernet switch. And then connect the users computer and
other network devices to the hub or Ethernet switch as well.
Warning: Do not insert a telephone line into any RJ-45
network interface, which may damage the H108L. Make sure
to use the RJ-45 Ethernet cable in compliance with the CE
standard.

Connecting Power Adapter

Perform the procedure as follows:
1. Connect the output end of the companion power adapter to
the power socket of the H108L, and connect the other end of
the power adapter to the power outlet.
2. Switch on the H108L. Make sure that the Power indicator of
the H108L is on.
Warning: Use the companion power adapter. Using a wrong
power adapter may cause damages to the device.

Configuring TCP/IP
If the operating system of the computer is one of the following:
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Wind
ows XP, there are two ways to configure TCP/IP on the computer
(the dynamic way is recommended). The following procedure us
es Windows XP as an example.

To obtain an IP address dynamically from the H108L via

DHCP, perform the following procedure:

1. In Windows taskbar, select Start > Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Network Connection icon.
3. Right-click Local Area Connection, and select Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click the Pro
perties button.
5. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box,
check Obtain an IP address automatically and check Obt
ain DNS server address automatically.
6. Click OK to confirm and save the settings.

To configure a static IP address, perform the following

procedure:

1. In Windows taskbar, select Start > Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Network Connection icon.
3. Right click Local Area Connection, and select Properties.

5. In Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, che

ck Use the following IP address to specify the IP address
of this computer. This IP address shall be in the same networ
k segment as the IP address of the H108L. In other words, th
is address shall be in the form 192.168.1.x (x is a decimal int
eger between 2~254, for example, 192.168.1.2). Set the su
bnet mask to 255.255.255.0. Set the default gateway to
192.168.1.1.
6. Check Use the following DNS server addresses. The defa
ult gateway and primary DNS server addresses are all set to:

Configuration Preparation
Default Settings
The factory default settings of H108L are as follows:

Default IP address of the LAN side interface: 192.168.1.1;

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.
H108L enables the DHCP server by default. PC can obtain the
IP address from H108L automatically via DHCP.
The initial user name and password for logging into the web
configuration page are listed below:

User name is admin

Password is admin

Default WLAN network name (i.e., SSID), default wireless

encryption mode, and default encryption key are all marked
on the label of H108L.
Tip: If H108L fails to work due to configuration error or if the
user forgets the login password, perform the following
procedure to restore the default settings: hold the Reset
button down (you may use a needle) for more than 5
seconds when H108L is running normally; then the system
restarts automatically.

Checkpoints
Before configuring
checkpoints:

H108L,

make

sure

the

following

Use a Ethernet cable (either cross-over or straight-through)

to connect a computer to any Ethernet interface
(LAN1~LAN4) of H108L. Make sure that the corresponding
LAN interface indicator is solid on or flashing. If wireless
connection is adopted, make sure that WLAN (Wi-Fi)

Configuring Port Forwarding

Port forwarding is used to configure a redirection policy of port

QoS Configuration
Quality of Service (QoS) defines the quality agreement on the
data transmitted between network users, for example, the
allowed transmitting latency, degree of distortion, and the
synchronization of audio and video, etc.
The concept of Class of Service is introduced to QoS frame. By
using QoS, ZXV10 H108L can completely control the inbound
and outbound data packets. For the inbound data packet, it is
required to convert its field mapping to queue. For the outbound
data packet, it is required to convert its queue to field mapping.
