MISSION STATEMENT
St. Damien of Molokai is a Catholic parish family which recognizes and
embraces the gifts and talents of our faith filled people. The life of our
patron saint inspires us to lead lives of love, hope and charity. Moving
forward, we will grow through our liturgy, teachings and outreach to all,
with the help of God and the gifts received through the Holy Eucharist.

Pastoral Impressions
By Fr. Bill
If we are looking for a way to
follow Jesus and to be like him,
todays readings are an excellent guide. When you stop to
think about what matters most in life or the
one thing you would give up everything else
to possess, what would that goal or prize be?
If what you want is money or status or success, put those aside for a moment and think
of happiness.
Zephaniah tells us to seek the Lord, to seek
justice and to seek humility. St. Paul is quite
clear too. He tells us that God has chosen the
foolish, the weak, the lowly, and those who
count for nothing. How we grow both physically and spiritually is spelled out in our gospel reading from the Beatitudes. Jesus taught
these to his disciples to show them how to
live. They call us to be humble and meek, to
hunger and thirst for righteousness, to be
merciful, peacemakers, and clean of heart. If
we live the Beatitudes and people notice, we
very well may suffer. Sometimes we judge
each other incorrectly. We dont give each
other the benefit of the doubt. We dont say
what Pope Francis has said, Who am I to
judge?
Think of the Beatitudes and what they ask of
us. Merciful is a good description of how we
are to live together as followers of Christ. If
we are merciful we will be kind and respectful in how we treat others, especially the elderly. We wont bully our classmates or
make fun of or totally discount persons with
physical or mental defects. We will honor
our parents and care for our children. We
wont allow ourselves to be angry or impatient with others when they annoy us. When
we live like this we will grow in humility,
and we will become clean of heart. We will
live as Jesus taught his disciples so long ago.
We will approach the happiness God calls us
to.
