Have you ever heard of an unfair trial? Well, Tom Robinson's trial was unfair. A
black man who lives in Maycomb county is charged with a rape of a white female.
Mayella Ewell, a common white folk who practically invited Tom into her fenced yard
almost everyday. One day she accused him of raping her while he was there at the
house. She started screaming and Tom took off running and he just so happened to
run into Sheriff Tate. According to the universe of obligation, Tom was guilty before
proven guilty because of the way the court system was set up. My verdict is that Tom is
an innocent man, he was unjustly accused by Ms. Ewell. The jurys verdict isn't based
on solid evidence, he must be guilty because a white female's story always over rules a
black male.
The evidence the jury heard during the trial, clearly didn't prove him to be guilty
however, the jury only seemed to focus on Mayella's side of the story. Tom Robinson is
a hard working black man who honestly told his side of the story but it did not seem to
matter. Tom's boss, Mr. Link Deas stood up during the trial and said Tom's a descent,

trustworthy man. Mr. Gilmore, Ms. Ewell lawyer, assumed Tom's guilt, and his prejudice
took over the minds of the jurors. The other injustice against Tom, was that the jury was
stacked all of white men. The jurys verdict is totally wrong because they didn't listen to
the evidence, they listened to Mayellas story.
Based on the evidence I evaluated, I believe Tom Robinson is an innocent man.
After he supposedly raped her, no one called for a doctor to get her medical attention.
So, the jury has no true medical evidence he raped her, she only has a few bruises, and
it was known that her daddy beat her too. Also the hand Tom supposedly hit her with,
he doesn't have full use of his right hand. So, how it is possible he hit her? My verdict
about the whole trial is that Tom should be a free man, there was no proof of wrong
doing.
The Universe of Obligation, in Maycomb County had a big part in the trial.
Anytime a white women is victimized, the jury is on her side, and it does not matter what
the case is. White woman are the most protected especially against the word of a black
man. Simply put, Mayella vs Tom is an unfair trial because of the circumstances the jury
undoubtedly favored her testimony.
An innocent man was guilty of rape, because of prejudice and dishonesty. Tom's only
flaw was that he was simply a black man, and that was all it took to convict him of a

crime he didn't commit. The trial was unfair because there was no evidence proving he
raped her.
