3. Required for projects using the National History Day theme only.
Our project integrates the NHD theme Taking a Stand in [Chicago/IL] History in our argument
because Gale Cincotta was a leader that took a stand to end housing discrimination in the
neighborhoods of Chicago during the 1960s. The purpose of our argument was to explain how
Gale Cincotta actions within Chicago communities and by creating organizations like the NPA
( National People's Action) she was able to stand against banks, realtors and insurance
companies that had developed habits or redlining.

4. PROCESS
A. We started off with the historical question, What was the significance of Gale Cincotta
and her organization the National People's Action? And has we did more research about her work
within the Chicago community in the 1960s and the different organizations she developed in order
to stop housing discrimination.
B. To support our argument we collected many different forms of evidence such as
newspapers, articles, photos, documentation of interviews, and books.
C. Select one piece of evidence that you used and explain how it influenced your
argument.
Book called Gale Force Gale Cincotta The Battles for Disclosure And Community
Reinvestment by Michael Westgate with Ann Vick-Westgate. This source guided our
argument because it directed the way in which it showed how Gale Cincotta affected and
organized societies around Chicago to end redlining.
D. To do research we went to the Harold Washington Library and the Depaul University
Library.
