2. Description
2.1 General description
The SAPHYDOSE i dosimeter is an individual, self-sufficient, pocketsize dosimeter displaying the individual
dose equivalent Hp(10) in real time for X and rays. It is in compliance with the IEC 61283 standard. It is
used in the X and fields, the energy of which is between 50 keV and 6 MeV and fields, the energy of
which is upper than 2 MeV. It cannot measure a criticality flash. However, this criticality flash can cause an
electronic failure.
It is class 1, i.e. it saves the dose equivalent information recorded under all normal circumstances.
The dosimeter is powered by one or two 3.6 V lithium battery.
The SAPHYDOSE i exists in two versions: individual and system.
It has a large range of configuration options, which will be detailed later.
It is provided with several alarms informing the user of a device dysfunction or a too significant dose
received. Those alarms are constituted by a sound (buzzer) and an indicator light (red light-emitting diode).
The individual dose equivalent measure Hp(10) is done by two back-to-back silicon diodes so that the
dosimeter is 360 isotropic for 60Co.

2.6 Accessories
The SAPHYDOSE i communicates through electromagnetic coupling. It is compatible with all types of
existing SAPHYMO readers:
-
SAPHYR G
LMF (MultiFunction Reader).
The communication is used to know and modify the state of the dosimeter by reading from and writing to the
RAM and EPROM's internal to the dosimeter.
No added device is needed for a dosimeter in individual version of the SAPHYDOSE I. Nevertheless, the
Easydose G software provide to users more possibilities of uses.
For a dosimeter in system version, an entrance reader like a SAPHYR interface or a LMF is needed to switch
on in zone mode and to load information of the mission in the dosimeter. To switch off it and read the data
about the past mission, an exit reader like a SAPHYR interface or a LMF is required.
2.6.1 SAPHYR G
Communication interface for the SAPHYDOSE i. That's a device to communicate between a PC and a
SAPHYDOSE i :
- Data reading
- Dosimeters parameter settings
2.6.2 LMF
The LMF (MultiFunction Reader) for SAPHYDOSE i is an independent reader. Placed at the boundary of
the controlled zone, it reads and sets the dosimeters and sends the data to the centralisation computer. It
can control a system of turnstile or radiation fix monitors.

3. Product life
3.1 Configuration
When the dosimeter is received, no adjustment is needed. If the ordering configuration, defined on the
parameters form, is not the require one. Please acquaint the distributor.
8 / 23
3.2 Use
There are two versions (possible configurations) of the SAPHYDOSE g i :
9 / 23
Entry in Zone:
OFF
The reader checks the state of the dosimeter after the start-up (OFFOZ) and then modifies the mission
parameters: worker name, worker number, alarms thresholds, dose equivalent reset. After all that, the
reader activates the dosimeter (OZEZ).
Leaving from Zone:
EZ
The reader checks the state of the dosimeter (EZOZ) and then saves all the data of the mission: worker
name, worker number, dose equivalent, maximal dose equivalent rate during the missionAfter all that,
the reader realises the shutdown of the dosimeter (OZOFF).

3.3 Maintenance
3.3.1 Recurring
An independent warning system is provided on the SAPHYDOSE i to indicate the maintenance period.
The period between two maintenance operations is a parameter ranging from 0 to 255 weeks (5 years) by
1 week step. This is indicated by the continuous display of the
symbol, once this period has elapsed.
This period is generally set to 52 weeks.
3.3.2 Corrective
The SAPHYDOSE i is also provided with self-test systems checking the correct working of the main
functions. Whether the dosimeter doesn't work, an anomaly message is been displaying (ESSI, ESM1,
ESM2, ESBAT,...). They indicate the dosimeter is out of order and must be sent to corrective maintenance.
If no sound is produced, if the indicator light does not illuminate, or if the display is not fully lit during the
SAPHYDOSE i start-up self-test, the dosimeter must be sent to the corrective maintenance as users
could not get all suitable information.

4. Dosimeter mode
4.1 Shutdown mode (OFF)
4.1.1 Functioning description
This is the SAPHYDOSE i rest mode. The dosimeter is in standby. Nevertheless, It could be send and
receive message from suitable reader (a serial interface for example).
The SAPHYDOSE i can be turned off by following manners:
by push buttons, this way depend of the working mode and the setting.
with an exit reader.
In the rest mode, the dosimeter checks the battery power every ten minutes.

4.1.3.2 Communication
The communication is operated whatever the dosimeter mode. The communication modify parameters in
EEPROM. Be careful, parameters will be written in RAM only at the next re-initialisation. Thus, the new
parameters will be considered just after a new start-up.
The communication also allows to read many data (name, worker number , integrated dose,...etc. ) of the
last mission to be analysed.

5. Annex
5.1 Push buttons uses
Two push buttons are located on one of the two large side (the one opposite to the clip, under the label), the
SEL button and the VAL button. They allow a manual access to any functions, in function of the sequence.
An operating guide is written under the push buttons.
According to the dosimeter state, buttons allow to read some data (alarm thresholds, user name) and give
access to different functions: start-up, shutdown and reset.
Buttons use according to the dosimeter state:
- In the reader or Out of Order mode, the pressure on the push buttons is not taken into
account.
- In the Off state, the continuous pressure on the button VAL during three seconds
permits the start-up of the dosimeter. In system version, the self-test is followed by the
Out of Zone mode. In individual version, the dosimeter switches to the In Zone mode.
- In the In Zone or Out of Zone mode, without taking into account the possible
configuration options, the dosimeter follows the functioning described in the diagram.
When the pressure on the push button is take into account, a 0.125ms sound is
emitted.
For the disabled functions, according to the configuration of the reset and the shutdown by buttons in system
version, the dosimeter switches directly to the following state. If the both are disabled, the dosimeter switches
to the display of DOSE.
