DEKRA

Leading the way in lighting testing

Your full service provider for performance, safety
and EMC testing, inspection and certification

Supporting your innovations in lighting

Lighting includes a wide range of products, from low-energy lamps to streetlights, and from emergency lighting to Christmas tree lights. If
you place such products on the market you will often have to provide certificates to prove their safety and efficiency. This also applies to
related products such as transformers, power supplies and dimmers. In addition, lighting products and components often need to be tested
for ingress protection and impact resistance. At DEKRA we have the facilities to carry out all of these tests and our specialists are thoroughly familiar with the lighting market and testing needs. Our test activities cover components, subassemblies and complete lighting systems.

Changing technology, changing

markets, changing needs
Lighting uses a lot of energy. Due to scarce
resources, a growing world population and
rapid adoption of new technology in
emerging markets, improving energy
efficiency is essential. Incandescent lamps
have served us well for over a century. But in
many markets they are now being replaced
by light sources with much higher efficiencies, such as LED lamps. Other emerging
sources include OLED and LEP. All these
new technologies bring new testing
requirements.

What we can do for you

Rapid regulatory and market changes have
significantly altered the testing landscape. At
DEKRA were ready for the new challenges
presented by safety and performance testing.
Our broad service portfolio and global

presence make us the perfect partner for all

of your testing and certification needs. We
can help you reduce your compliance costs
and cut time-to-market. We can test all light
sources: incandescent and halogen lamps,
fluorescent lamps, discharge lamps, LEDs
and OLEDs. We are familiar with luminaires
for domestic and professional applications,
automotive lighting as well as public
lighting and retrofit products.

Light engine standardisation

The LED lighting market has developed
rapidly but so far there has been a lack of
standardisation. Zhaga is an international
industry-wide consortium for the standar
dization of LED light engines, which will
enable interchangeability between products
from different manufacturers and make
LED lighting even more attractive. DEKRA
is a member of Zhaga and a Zhaga Test
Centre and we can therefore undertake all

of the tests you may need for certification

under this scheme.

Global market access

International rules for certification and
approval marks are extremely complex.
We can help you adopt the smartest
certification approach in order to ensure
that your products are issued with marks
in your target markets as quickly, efficiently
and cost-effectively as possible.
Through our Export Support Services we
can help you get access to global markets,
from China (CCC) to the US and Canada
(MET) and Brazil (INMETRO) as well as
many more markets, including those in
the Middle East. Furthermore DEKRA is
recognized by the IECEE as a national
certification body and can issue CB Test
Certificates, which are accepted in many
countries. We have CB test laboratories
around the world which carry out safety,
performance and EMC tests.

Our laboratories
We have our own laboratories in Europe
and Asia and access to laboratories in
North America, ensuring rapid service
wherever youre located.

Safety testing

Environmental and performance testing

ENEC

LED Performance Mark

ENEC has replaced national certification

marks throughout the European Union.
This European scheme gives you access to
the markets in the EU, EFTA and several
countries in Eastern Europe. We can usually
also issue a CCA Notification of Test Results
or CB Test Certificate.

Some of the LED products being introduced onto the market do not live up to the
claims made for them. This has undermined confidence in the whole LED lighting sector.
The DEKRA LED Performance Mark confirms that your products provide the stated
performance and gives them a stronger position on the market. The DEKRA LED
Performance Mark covers Energy efficiency, confirmed lifetime and performance stability.

GS

At DEKRA we can help you by performing a wide range of performance-related

tests (e.g. luminous flux, efficacy and Colour Rendering Index, energy efficiency
and measurements to LM79 and LM80).

We offer GS (Geprfte Sicherheit)

certification for the German market. This
certification mark is also highly valued
in other markets.

KEMA-KEUR
This is a voluntary certification mark for
electrical products. Under this scheme,
your products and production site(s) are
monitored regularly, giving your customers
additional confidence about safety.
KEMA-KEUR is recognized in all European
countries and valued in many others regions
of the world as well.

Photometric testing

Energy star
The ENERGY STAR program is a voluntary labelling programme that is jointly
administered by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department
of Energy (DOE). It was launched in 1992 to help consumers identify more energy
efficient products.

ENEC Performance
ENEC Performance is a lighting performance mark that is used to supplement
pure safety testing under ENEC. Scheduled for introduction in 2014.

CE

EMC testing

The CE mark demonstrates compliance

with European Directives for a wide range
of products. We cover all relevant Directives
and can act as a Notified, Competent or
Certification Body in relation to CE.

We can test domestic, industrial and

automotive products in our laboratories and
on site to international standards (European,
US and others) for electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC). Automotive products
can be tested to ECE R10.04.
The test scope includes:
> 2004/108/EC
> EN 55015
> EN 61000-3-2
> EN 61000-3-3
> EN 61547
> CISPR 30

LVD
The Low Voltage Directive (2006/ 95/EC),
which ensures that electrical equipment is
safe for use, requires testing to, among
other standards:
> EN 60598
> EN 61347
>EN 60400/60238/ 60838/61184
> EN 62493
> EN 62471
> EN 60570

ErP
Lighting products must comply with new
requirements such as the European Unions
EcoDesign Directive on energy-related
products (ErP). There are also labelling

requirements for luminaires (based on the

amended Energy Labelling Directive).
ErP issues are covered by the following
directives and regulations:
>2009/125/EC (framework)
>2010/30/EC (labelling)
>244/2009/EC
>1194/2012/EC
>245/2009/EC
>874/2012/EC

REACH and RoHS

A range of substances formerly used in
electrical and electronic products are now
banned or severely restricted in many
markets. To give you confidence that the
products you import into the EU comply
with the regulations we can test to:
>RoHS: 2011/65/EC directive
>REACH: 1907/2006/EU regulation

Retail services

Zhaga is an international industry

wide association that has developed
standard specifications for the inter
faces of LED light engines. According
to their vision, a light engine that uses
LEDs as a light source is a module
with standardised interfaces
(electrical, mechanical, etc.).
DEKRA is one of the first Zhaga test
centres and a regular member of
Zhaga. We are therefore fully famili
ar with all of the developments in this
area. We are now accredited for
Zhaga Specification Books 2, 3, 4,
6, 7, 8 and more accreditations will
follow soon.

DEKRA also offers a range of materials

testing services including:
> Fire hazard testing such as Glow-wire
tests and Needle flame testing (EN/IEC
60695)
>Environmental conditions including
extreme heat, moisture, IP testing (EN
60529), and NEMA Type 250 guidelines
> Mechanical tests such as IK test or ball
tests (EN 50102)

At DEKRA we also offer retail services

to ensure that not just the initial samples
provided for testing but the whole
production run manufactured by your
suppliers meets relevant requirements.
> Basic safety test (BST)
> DUPro inspections
> Final random inspections
> Pre-shipment inspections
