Major revamp for Morone

The Morone Centre in Burgers fort is the oldest shopping centre
in town and will this month experience a major makeover.
“The center was build in 1991 and has since then not been
expanded,” said Ms Lesley Oosthuizen, center manager. There
are currently 43 shops in the center.
Three new shops will by 1 August open their doors in the center.
Fritjas Fish and Chips will open where the old Filletto’s were.
Foschini and Pepcell will also be moving into the center.
A major revamp next to the OK Grocer entrance is also planned.
More ATM’s will be installed. “We will have ABSA, Nedbank and
Standard Bank all under cover,” Oosthuizen said.
Multiserv also moved up to where Stax Video used to be.
On the ground level of the center Mr Pie amongst others are
moving in. The plan is that the shops on the ground level with
the theatre like steps will be hosting various promotions and the
public can look forward to music and entertainment as they
celebrate their new positions in the center.
A gateway through towards the new municipal building is also
part of the plans. This will allow easy access from the center to
the municipality once they’ve moved in.
The centre’s garden areas will also get a new face. All the trees
were trimmed and the public can look forward to a display of
nature as they enter the center. The developers of the Morone
Mall will if all goes according to plan start with construction of
the new mall next to the Steelpoort turn-off in the next few
months. This planned double storey complex will remind of
Riverside Mall in Nelspruit. Mayor retailers have already
committed to the project. Keep an eye out for more news about
this development in coming issues of Platinum Gazette.

Shopping made easy

OK Minimark Burgersfort this month celebrates its first birthday.
Looking back over the past year the store has experienced a large
amount of growth and is ready to adapt for the future.
Ms Elize Kilian, general manager of the store gave a bit away of
what clients can expect in the future. “We’ll be making quite a few
changes. One will be regarding the vruit and vegetable department.
This will be moved from the back of the store to the front,” she said.
The fresh produce will keep better in the smaller, heavily air
conditioned area with the on tap water supply. The sweets and dried
fruit currently in this section of the shop, will be moved elsewhere.
The Coffee Shoppe at the back of the store will also get a revamp. It
will be enlarged and a wider menu will be available. “We’ve found
that many people use the coffee shop as a place to meet clients or
even do interviews for jobs. Now there will be more space and we
will be getting someone who has worked with a chef to handle the
food side of things”.
“What we’ve done during the past year is to try and accommodate
our clients as much as possible. When they request a specific item,
we try to get it. Clients however sometimes do not understand that
we are still a convenience store and cannot keep stock of all the
sizes available in a product range. We simply do not have the
space,” Kilian added.
Another of the changes that will be coming is in the butchery and
this is aimed at providing not only a better service but also more
convenience to customers. Currently only pre-packed meat is
available. After the planned changes a client will be able to buy
mince or boerewors per kg. You will also be able to ask for a
specific size T-Bone or instead of two or four as they are in pre-
packed form, buy only one piece of meat. Customers can also order
meat hampers from the butchery and then pick it up from the store Ms Elize Kilian (store manager) with cashiers, Ms Jeanette Maupa, Ms Cecilia Makofane, Ms Martha Mashitwa
the next day. This will save them the hassle of stopping in town. and Sarah Leshabane.
“We would like to thank all our loyal
customers for their support during this
year. Without them none of our plans for
the future would have been possible.
Thank you for the positive feedback and
the way in which they’ve made the store
their own. Also thanks to the staff that
work very hard to help create this
success. Their efforts are truly
appreciated. Another thank you to our
management who is always there with
help, advice and encouragement,” Kilian
said. She also thanks the Lord for the
blessings they’ve received during the
year.

Misty Knights Lowveld celebrated the birthdays of 16 of
their members last weekend.
The club held a celebration at Buffelsvlei on the R37 towards
Lydenburg. Overnight accommodation was organised and
nobody went on the road after having a party. The bikes
were all safely parked in the tractor shed before the party
started. Below are some of the birthday bikers with the

birthday cake.

Doornbosch Mine achieved 1 000 000 fatality free shifts on the 28th of June 2010. This tremendous
accomplishment took Doornbosch 55 months (4.5 years) to achieve. Mine Manager, Mr Piet Fouche
congratulated all employees and contractors who contributed to this achievement. Piet highlighted that the
dedication and effort of every individual to work safely, every day, contributed to the success of achieving 1
million fatality free shifts.
Doornbosch Mine is part of Eastern Chrome
Mines, owned by Samancor. Bearing in
mind that the mine was only commissioned
in February 2009, this is a great
achievement. General Manager, Emile
Britz emphasized that after such a great
accomplishment, it is even more important
for people to be diligent in following safe
procedures. “We need to work safely each
and every day!”

A problem with ‘the wall’

When approaching Burgersfort, walls are build in the middle of the road.
There are no signs attached at the beggining of the walls. When travelling from
Polokwane, at the third robbot, the road divert into three lanes, the middle lane is
directly in line with the beggining of the wall.
If the robbot is open, it becomes difficult for a driver to notice the solid concrete wall
in front of him. Firstly the small wall will derail you directly toward the wall. Extend
the wall on the other side of the road or make it visible before we loose more lives and

Should South Africa bid to

Hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup is a
milestone for South Africa and Africa, but
now government is aiming at the 2020

This week president Jacob Zuma said that
the successful hosting of the World Cup
should be used as a springboard for a bid to
host the 2020 Olympics.
The country has previously put in a bid for
the 2004 games, but then Cape Town as
host city lost out to Athens.
It is also speculated that the state of the art
Soccer City stadium will be a good venue.
Experts however foresee that altitude could
be a problem for the athletes.
Durban is another alternative as a host city.
Their Moses Mabhida Stadium is already
fitted with a running track.
Should South Africa be successful in their
bid to host the Olympic games it will be the
first for the continent.
A host city will however have to be able to

Family Day success at
Pilgrim’s Rest golf club
The Pilgrim’s Rest golf club hosted a Family Day on Sunday 27 June.
The club currently has more that 130 members, but only a few active players. Every few
months two of the club’s members get a chance to organise a family day to help raise funds
for the club. On Sunday it was the Beetge family from Ohrigstad’s turn.
The day was themed “Pappa slat - Mamma put” meaning dad will do the driving and mom
the putting. This resulted in fun and laughter all over the course.
The teams were full of
enthusiasm and all
dressed to win the prize
of best-dressed team.
In bitter cold weather
they played from 10:00
until 13:30 before
feasting on spit braai
lamb.
Prizes were handed out
for various
achievements.
The Beetge family
thanked everyone who
helped to make the day a
success, especially all the
sponsors who made it
possible for them to raise
money for the club.
The next family fun day
will be hosted in October
this year.

Below are the winners of

the day with the
organisers in front -
Yolandi and Dilene
Beetge.
