Today Facebook is the second most accessed website in the world.
But you will
be surprised to know that there are few countries where facebook was banned. Here is the list of 10 countries which banned facebook: 1. Pakistan In MAY 2010 FB was banned in Pakistan because of carrying competition to draw the Prophet Mohammad. But later the ban was lifted by a Pakistani Court nearly after two weeks. 2. North Korea In April 2016, North Korea officially announced ban on FB to control flow of information about the country to the outside world. 3. Iran After the 2009 election in Iran, FB was banned because of fears that opposition movements were being organized on the site. After four years, In September 2013 blocking of FB was thought to be lifted without any notice. But people lost unrestricted access on the very next day wondering whether the opening was deliberate or the result of some technical glitch. 4. Vietnam FB was blocked in MAY 2016 in Vietnam for 2 weekends due to public protests over an environmental disaster attributed to toxic discharges from a steel complex. 5. Tajikistan In NOVEMBER 2012, Country blocked access to FB due to the comments posted online about President Emomalii Rahmon and other officials. 6. China FB was blocked in JULY 2009 because of post by Chinese people against the government. Now only tourists can use FB. In AUGUST 2013 there were reports of FB being partially unblocked in China. But according to blocked in China, FB is still blocked. However it is not blocked in HONG KONG and TAIWAN. 7. Mauritius On NOVEMBER 8, 2007 FB was blocked because of a fake profile page of the PRIME MINISTER. Access to website was restored on the very next day. 8. Cuba FB not fully banned here but you can access it only at an internet cafe. 9. Bangladesh
Bangladesh banned FB for short period of time because of controversial cartoon
post. FB was started again after removal of that post. Ban was lifted on 20 DECEMBER 2016 after about 22 days only. 10. Egypt FB was blocked for a few days during 2011 Egyptian protest against President Muammar Gaddafi.
