Lesson Plan: 7/8

BL1
Learning Goal: Students can understand and unravel stories in the Hebrew
Bible.
DAY 1:
Markers and Chart Paper
Grab Bibles
Graffiti- (5 minutes) Students will break off into groups of 4. (anyone left over
come to me) .They will have 2 categories: Creation story, Adam and Eve. They
will have 1 minute to write down as many words as they can pertaining to
their story. Then they will switch. When they switch they cannot repeat the
words that are already written on the page from the previous group. Read out
loud what is written on the page.
Ask students questions based on reading. (5 mins)
- How many days did it take for God to create the earth? (7 Days)
- What did he create first? (Light and Darkness, Day and Night)
-What did he create last? (People)
- When did he rest? (7th Day)
Read it together. (10 mins)
Get into slideshow and have more follow up questions (10)
-Everything was created in 7 days, what do you think about this? Do you
believe it was literally done in 7 days or do you think thats just the way the
story was written?
-No because at the time, there was no concept of time.
-Some scholars hypothesize that the 24 hour periods represent something.
And some believe this represents the days in which he revealed the truths of
his creation to someone a long time ago, that it took him 7 days to reveal
what he did.
-What does the number 7 mean? There are MANY connections, some big,
some small.
The world was created in 7 days.
7 is mentioned 735 times in the bible.
7 represents the foundation of Gods word. It represents completeness
and perfection.
There are 7 men mentioned in the Old Testament that are specifically
referred to as men of God.
There are 7 Holy days throughout the year.

We see this number in a lot of passages. God commands a man with

leprosy to bath in the river 7 times. Joshua was commanded to march
around Jericho for 7 days.

-Go back to passage 27 and re-read what it says. What does it mean? (we are
all made in the image and likeness of God) Write down your answer, discuss
with a partner.
We are more like God then any other creation. We have emotion, we feel
things (we feel love, happiness, sadness). We are the superior beings on
earth.
We are made to do Gods work, to do good things and help others as
God would. It also means that because we are made in the image and
likeness of God, then everyone should be treated with respect because
they reflect God.
Adam and Eve (Genesis 2)
-What can you tell me about Adam and Eve? (2 mins)
Read the passage together(10 mins)
Questions after reading: (10 mins)
-What is the name of the garden? (the garden of Eden)
-What was the name of the tree with the forbidden fruit? (Tree of Knowledge)
-Who tricked Eve? (Snake) Who does the snake represent? (Satan)
-What does it mean when Eve says that if she ate the fruit she would die? It
doesnt mean she would literally die. It means she would no longer be
immortal.
-Because Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, we became sinful. As a result
of our sin, we die. The sin takes our life away, it ages us and makes us old
until we eventually just die.
-Each gender had a different punishment. Women were given the punishment
of having pain when giving birth. Men were punished by having to work. Every
thing was planted and given to them in the garden. But after eaten the fruit,
Adam and all men after him, would have to work the ground. They would have
to plant seeds and do everything in order to make the plants grow. And they
would have to deal with thistles and other weeds that would deprive his plants
of growing. Hence, they had to work in order to eat and live.
-What did God do before he kicked them out of the garden? He clothed them,
which means that even though man disobeyed God and angered him, he still
took pity on them and helped them.
Video (remainder of time, if any left)

DAY 2:
Students will get into 5 groups and will be given a passage from the Old
Testament. They will read it as a group, write down some points and present it
to the class. (20 mins)
After every group has presented, they will be given the instructions for the
shoebox.
They can pick any one of the passages that were presented and they have to
create a scene. (Example, if they pick Adam and Eve, they can create a scene
of snake tempting Eve in the Garden or Adam and Eve getting kicked out of
the garden)
Success criteria: accurate depiction of a scene from one of the passages.
Effort put into the shoebox. Oral presentation of the shoebox.
