Remarcm n exemplele urmtoare faptul c verbele frazale pot fi folosite la toate timpurile

verbale i alturi de verbe modale.


(to) look after = (a) avea grij de
e.g.: Jane will look after the kids while we are away. (Jane va avea grij de copii ct suntem
noi plecai.)
(to) look out = (a) fi cu bgare de seam
e.g.: Look out! Theres a car coming. (Fii atent! Vine o main.)
(to) look forward to = (a) atepta cu plcere s
e.g.: I look forward to hearing from you soon. (Formal: Anticipez cu plcere rspunsul dvs. /
Informal: Abia atept s primesc rspunsul tu.)
(to) look up = (a) cuta
e.g.: If you dont know anything about this subject, look it up on the internet. (Dac nu tii
nimic despre acest subiect, caut-l pe internet.)
(to) bring up = 1. (a) crete (pe cineva); 2. (a) aduce n discuie
e.g. 1: Its difficult to bring up a kid nowadays. (E dificil s creti un copil n ziua de azi.)
e.g. 2: Kim shouldnt bring this up. Nobody is ready to hear it. (Kim nu ar trebui s aduc
asta n discuie. Nimeni nu e pregtit s-o aud.)
(to) hang up = (a) nchide telefonul
e.g.: Dont hang up! Ive got something important to tell you. (Nu nchide telefonul! Trebuie
s i spun ceva important.)
(to) make up = (a) inventa
e.g.: Their daughter made up an explanation to avoid getting punished. (Fiica lor a inventat o
explicaie ca s nu fie pedepsit.)
(to) set up = (a) aranja, (a) monta
e.g.: Please set up the table. Our friends are about to arrive. (Te rog s aranjezi masa. Prietenii
notri sunt pe cale s ajung.)
(to) show up = (a)-i face apariia
e.g.: Mark didnt show up at the meeting although everybody was expecting him. (Mark nu a
aprut la ntlnire dei toat lumea l atepta.)
(to) fill out = (a) completa
e.g.: The client only needs to fill out this form. The rest of the paperwork is done by our
employees. (Clientul trebuie doar s completeze acest formular. Restul documentelor sunt
ntocmite de ctre angajaii notri.)

(to) find out = (a) descoperi


e.g.: George has found out that Anne is secretly taking cooking classes. (George a descoperit
c Anne ia cursuri de gtit pe ascuns.)
(to) hang out = (a)-i petrece/pierde vremea
e.g.: On weekend evenings, he likes to hang out at the bar. (n serile de weekend, i place si piard vremea la bar.)
(to) come over = (a) trece (pe la cineva)
e.g.: My parents are coming over tomorrow morning. Lets clean the house a bit. (Prinii mei
trec pe la noi mine diminea. Haide s facem puin curenie n cas.)
(to) get over = (a) trece peste
e.g.: She is still trying to get over the divorce. (nc ncearc s treac peste divor.)
(to) break down = (a) se strica
e.g.: Our washing machine broke down, so Im doing the laundry by hand. (Maina de splat
s-a stricat, aa c spl hainele cu mna.)
(to) calm down = (a) se liniti
e.g.: You should calm down. This is not a reason to get angry. (Ar trebui s te liniteti. sta
nu e un motiv s te nfurii.)
(to) go on = (a) continua
e.g.: The main character of the play got injured. We must go on without him. (Personajul
principal al piese s-a accidentat. Trebuie s continum fr el.)
(to) run into = (a) ntlni ntmpltor
e.g.: Yesterday, I ran into Mary at the supermarket. She says hi. (M-am ntlnit ntmpltor cu
Mary ieri la supermarket. Te salut.)
(to) get rid of = (a) se descotorosi de
e.g.: We must get rid of these old clothes. They are just taking up space. (Trebuie s ne
descotorosim de hainele astea vechi. Doar ocup spaiu.)
(to) put up with = (a) accepta/suporta (o situaie, o persoan)
e.g.: He couldnt put up with his flatmate anymore, so he moved out. (Nu i-a mai putut
suporta colegul de apartament, aa c s-a mutat.)
