Partial Solar Eclipse – Effects

on 11th September, 2007

Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

1. Partial solar eclipse takes place on Tuesday – the 11th September 2007। The
Solar eclipse starts at 15।56 hours and shall end at 20.07 hours i.e. the solar eclipse
shall last for 4 hours 11 minutes.

2. Capricorn Lagna rises at the start of solar eclipse. Lagna lord Saturn is in 8th
House with Sun and Ketu aspected by Rahu. Mars also aspects this combination in
8th house. Thus adding to the malefic influence of the Solar Eclipse. The Pivot of the
Eclipse – The Sun is in own Sign. The Nakshtra of the Moon is Poorva Phalguni and
the moon is also in Leo Sign of the Sun. Jupiter is in 11th House, Mars – Jupiter to
be noted. Saturn aspects (10th aspect) Mars leading to more adversities.

3. Partial eclipse of the Sun takes place on 11th September 2007 – Tuesday whose
lord is Mars. This partial solar eclipse shall not be visible in India as per Lahiris
Ephemeris for 2007, the area of visibility are:

- Region covering parts of Antarctica.

- South America except the northern part, and

- The south – West Atlantic Ocean।

4. The duration of the partial solar eclipse is of 4 hours and 11 minutes। The eclipse
takes place in a fixed sign i.e. Leo ruled by the Sun himself. The effects shall be felt
for a long period as one of the principles is that the effect shall be felt for the years
depending on the duration of the eclipse – in this solar eclipse effects can be felt for
about 4. years.

5. Now, the following specific predictions and general obstructions are made with
regard to this partial solar eclipse:

i) some times evil effects starts taking effect even before the actual eclipse.

ii) The eclipse takes place in the 8th House as the Sun is in the 8th house with the
Moon, Saturn and Ketu expected by Rahu and Mars. Accordingly, many evil results
and natural calamities are indicated and the human beings shall suffer to a large
extent.

iii) The study of the eclipse chart goes with the chart of the country concerned and
its ruler. In the absence of these charts, only general effects shall be indicated.

iv) There can be sudden deaths of various persons including of VIPs and the marked
enmity against the country shall be noted. Terrorist’s activities cannot be ruled out.

v) Regarding VIPs deaths, it would suffice to say that assassination of Mahatma

Gandhi took place on 30th Jan. 1948 followed by solar eclipse on 12.11.1947 –
troubled position in India and Pakistan. American President Abraham Lincoln was
assassinated on 14.4.1865 after lunar eclipse on 11.4.1865. Hence the concerned
countries to be careful in taking security measures.

vii) Cruelties on women and children, famine type condition, attack and defining or
religious places and other such matters indicated.

viii) Some religious men and preachers may be caught while indulging in nefarious
activities including revolting against the laws of the country concerned.

ix) Some type of seditions and rebellion activities may come to surface.

x) Persons holding power may be dethroned or face some type of destructions.

xi) The ministers and women may face various hardship. Since Saturn also joins the
sun, people living in the deserts or mountains and also low class people shall suffer
as a result of the eclipse

xii) Apart from very bad conditions, helping hand shall be available from other
countries and thus the food stuff and medicines etc shall be available in plenty.

xiii) Evil results are indicated including fraud lent practices with regard to finances
and revenues of the nation. Some highly placed persons may be caught for
embezzlement of government’s fund

xv) Because of Mars, some houses/places of entertainment including cinema halls,

theatres, music halls, sports clubs etc may be engulfed by fever and other
disturbances injury or illness of the rules (VIPs) cannot be ruled out.

xiv) Be that as it may the people in general shall be cooperative with the
government to overcome the difficulties caused by the solar eclipse the people shall
show respect for women and divorce rate may come down.

xv) The government and its authorities or ordinance must be careful in bringing out
any legislation or ordinance so that the people may not resort to non co-operative
attitude and some decision from the courts and religious organizations may not be
beneficial for the masses.
An explanation of Anukul/Pratikul
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Anukul / Pratikul

Anukul means a planet that is either beneficially disposed either by being strong in
own sign, good house, ruler of houses which will bring positive results, or otherwise
not malefically disposed nor inclined to produce evil influence. A planet which is good
for the chart either naturally or by house ruler ship yet somewhat weakened by
placement may be strengthened through the gem, or a planet which already is
strong and giving benefic influence may be further strengthened for gains in
particular areas of life by wearing the gem.

Pratikul means a planet that causes evil influence or suffering to the native as seen
through the horoscope. This may be a debilitated planet who is in a dusthana and
enemy of the lord of the lagna, or otherwise disposed that the influence simply
causes suffering.

It is NOT possible to appease a planet which causes suffering by wearing the gem.
This is the heart of the pratikul philosophy and causes increased suffering for the
persons who are recommended by this method. Mantra, charity, etc. should be
advised in such cases solely.

For example if one had a Sag lagna and lord of the ascendant were in the 6th house
in Taurus yellow sapphire would be of help in strengthening Jupiter, regardless of the
house being a dusthana and an enemy's sign. For the same lagna, say Sun was in
the 8th house in Cancer along with Mars, and there was no correction of debilitation
in the horoscope for this. Ruby could be recommended with good results as benefic
lord of the 9th, adding that Sun is also a planet that does well in the 8th house.

On the other hand to recommend red coral for Mars would only increase the malefic
effects of Mars and cause increased suffering to the native. Were Saturn also
debilitated in the 5th, it would be especially foolhardy to recommend blue sapphire
as the terrible effects would be even more devastating to the person's life. Yet were
Saturn in Virgo in the 10th, blue sapphire may be worn for increased power in
matters of status and career, especially during the Saturn dasha or bhuktis.

An experienced jyotishi must examine the chart from many perspectives before
making pronouncements on how a person's prarabdha karma will manifest in this
lifetime and when the effects will be felt. It is not that we quickly see a planet's
position in the rasi chart and make a pronouncement. Careful consideration is always
the hallmark of an experienced practitioner of both jyotish and ayurveda in analysis
and making recommendations. The same must be true for recommending a
gemstone to increase particular influences in a chart. It is true that sometimes
increasing a benefic influence may help to overshadow a negative one coming from
another quarter, but a bad influence can never be lessened nor curtailed by using the
gem for the planet producing it.

It is not becoming to the persons who are learning, experiencing, and practicing this
brahminical science to be stubborn about increasing their knowledge in planetary
gemology nor any other facet of jyotish science. We are all students, regardless of
how many years, decades, or lifetimes we have practiced, and this is a spiritual
science meant to benefit and enlighten those that seek its counsel.
We are attempting to read the karma of those that seek our counsel and just as fire
will burn even an innocent child, who unwittingly places a hand into it, should we
create negative influence or greater suffering for those seeking relief through our
counsel, the karmic reactions will be upon our heads. There are many scriptural
injunctions about charlatan astrologers or physicians being born blind in the next life,
or taking birth in a hellish planetary system. Ignorance of the law will not excuse us
from such karmic reactions.

Therefore it behooves us to be diligent in our personal sadhana that we may gain the
blessings of Lord Vishnu, Lord Siva, Lord Ganesh and our eternal transcendental
preceptors Sri Parashara and those in the line of disciplic succession for their
blessings upon us. For a qualified jyotishi the practice is also part of the spiritual
progression towards liberation in that the service rendered is of the topmost quality
in giving knowledge to those who seek it.
LIBRA - The Scales
September 24 – October 23

OF UNDOUBTED Babylonian origin and later adopted by the Egyptians. The

constellation governing this month was connected with the Babylonian myth of The
Last Judgment, which would reputably take place in the autumn; the scales,
therefore, represents the balance of justice. It also suited the Egyptian season, the
time when the harvest would be weighed and taxes assessed.

Librans, traditionally, are easy going people, sociable and outgoing, ready to make
friends, loving harmony and balance in everything and anxious to avoid any kind of
unpleasantness. Gandhi’s gospel of non-violence was a direct result of his nature.
Librans are charmers and dislikes a fight, but once involved, they are master-
strategists and show a ruthlessness that seems almost foreign to their natures.

Librans are idealists, perfectionists, ever seeking harmony and balance. If they have
a fault, it is that they sometimes `sit on the fence’ or change their minds. Indeed,
Librans have to guard themselves against a lazy streak in their nature. Their very
desire for harmony leads them not to want `to rock the boat’ in case they upset the
balance of things; which leads to inactivity and indecision. They make good artists,
poets, diplomats and connoisseurs of beautiful things.

Librans women are loaded with sex appeal and if they fail to make it in the acting
profession, can always do well as beauty specialists, hairdressers or other jobs
demanding a need for balance and harmony.

SEPTEMBER 24

Midnight – 8 a.m.: A year to play it safe in most directions. Try not to be led off at
a tangent from your main purposes. You tend to be too much preoccupied with the
personal side of your life and with personal satisfactions rather than the need to
secure your material wants.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: You may find it hard to take, but you simply have to adapt yourself
to other people. The resignation of a colleague may open new paths for you, if you
show the right tact and diplomacy. Social life active, with the accent on the outdoors.

4 p.m. – midnight: Romantic omens good with promise of an active love life,
especially in August and September. Few money problems. Travel prospects good for
all those with artistic leanings, but watch your health if abroad. Lucky day: Sunday,
Number: 3.

SEPTEMBER 25

Midnight – 8 a.m.: A strong alliance you have built up with a colleague or associate
is suddenly broken and you are forced to search around for new allies. August and
September could be critical months for your future. Domestic and social life fairly
harmonious with a surprise in May.
8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Take care of your health, particularly if you plan a trip overseas. You
are especially prone to infections and local `bugs’. May and September are your
happiest months. Possibility of a surprise romance. Favorable aspects in money
matters.

4 p.m. – midnight: Try not to pin too much reliance on other people – remember
most are preoccupied with No.1. You will be disappointed by the lack of help from
someone you have come to rely on. You will pass through a mildly anxious financial
phase in October and November. Lucky day: Thursday, Number: 6.

SEPTEMBER 26

Midnight – 8 a.m.: - Likely to be a turbulent year from the emotional point of view
but pretty good for all business or financial aspects. Changes in your circle of
acquaintances. You are likely to be asked to chair a committee or play a prominent
role in some group activity.
8 a.m. – 4 p.m. A pleasant social life with a considerable degree of conviviality and
perhaps more than your fair share of romantic interludes. Financially, not so good;
indeed, the best you can hope for is to keep abreast of commitments.

4 p.m. – midnight: A certain strain between yourself and those in your intimate
circle due to a misunderstanding and allegations of lack of help when needed. Social
life suffers; but other aspects are sound and cause little anxiety. Lucky day:
Wednesday, Number: 9.

SEPTEMBER 27

Midnight – 8 a.m.: You cannot help finding life enjoyable; you have plenty of
friends and there always seems to be a good deal doing. The only difficulty is
insufficient money and you will have to learn to be more economical.

8a.m. – 4 p.m.: If you gamble, you will lose. However, investment in shares or in
property – provided you take sound advice first – will pay off handsomely. Socially,
you are jolted out of your comfortable rut, but in the end you will be pleased.

4 p.m. – midnight: A more than average number of excellent opportunities –

provided you do not let them go to your head. Curb your enthusiasm and think
carefully before taking action. A happy family event in the autumn. Lucky day:
Monday, Number: 4.

SEPTEMBER 28

Midnight – 8 a.m.: A year when you will do a lot better for yourself than for some
time past; however, gains will only come through careful planning and judicious
action, so you cannot afford to sit back and rely on luck alone. Socially, you have
more money to enjoy yourself but less time, in fact, to do so.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Two good periods this year – one in October and the other in
November. You could make substantial sums at these times. Favorable charges in
personal affairs in April and August. A particularly happy year for those who are
single and hoping to marry.

4 p.m. – midnight: A tendency to complacency will have to be curbed. You tend to

take too many people and too many things for granted; this could boomerang
against you, particularly in early April. Best feature of the year: new friends. Lucky
day: Friday, Number: 2.

SEPTEMBER 29
Midnight – 8 a.m.: If you have been having a rough time, now is the time for
optimism. Everything slowly tends to move your way, provided you are not too proud
to seek assistance where necessary. Social life will be mainly restricted to your
present intimate circle, but remains harmonious.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Not a year for big events. The pace is even and the enjoyable
moments quiet and gentle rather than hectic; this, actually, seems to be to your
liking. The exception is during your holidays when you cut loose. Romance pretty
feverish during July and August.

4 p.m. – midnight: Watch for opportunities during your peak months – April and
November. On the whole a good year, with a slight trough during May through
September. Leisure activities provide intellectually refreshing moments. Lucky day:
Saturday, Number: 1.

SEPTEMBER 30

Midnight – 8 a.m.: The first six months provide more than their fair share of
irritations, complications and mishaps. But the second half of the year more than
makes up. The opposite sex proves friendly and amenable, particularly during July.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Danger you will find yourself sandwiched between quarrelling
sections of your friends or colleagues. Try and step outside the scene and let them
get on with it. Social life at a standstill during the spring – but very active from June
on.

4 p.m. – midnight: Bad weather, strikes, rising living costs etc. cause havoc in the
good-temper and spirit of your home. Try and take a more objective view and do not
blame your spouse of some trade unionist’s selfishness. Social life restricted. Lucky
day: Monday, Number: 5.

OCTOBER 1

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Financially, you will find the going harder than you are used to.
You are never in any trouble but irritatingly you find it difficult to add to your
income, while all around you, others are getting big increase. Social life suffers.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: The big event of the year is a wedding in your immediate family or
among close friends. Otherwise, a stodgy run-of-the-mill year. Finances slow, and for
the single, little hope of a change in status.

4 p.m. – midnight: Keep your mind firmly fixed on major issues this year. You
cannot stand still; you must either rise or go down slightly – but hard work, tact and
watchfulness will see you get on. Plenty of light entertainment, but you may feel a
lack of intellectual stimulus. Lucky day: Thursday, Number: 7.

OCTOBER 2

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Your profits, as well as your pleasures, depend largely on people
overseas. Business may take you abroad in May and September, with good results,
and enhanced pleasure at making new friends. You are lucky with money; less lucky
with home life.
8a.m. – 4p.m.: A busy year, on the whole satisfying and stimulating, with average
financial results. Your personal life seems to involve you in more work with
associations, drama circles, parent-teacher groups, community or charitable
projects. You could be involved in an indiscreet romance in the autumn.

4 p.m. – midnight: A fairly quiet year, with busy spurts in February and again in
October. You revive old interests and associations and spend more time than usual
at clubs or gatherings of people with the same business interests. Love life only
averagely active. Lucky day: Monday, Number: 9.

OCTOBER 3

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Stick to what you are doing now and you are likely to secure far
better results than you anticipated. Past work may not seem to have been much
appreciated at the time, but you will see the results now. Business success increases
your social desirability.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Fairly contradictory signs. For instance, travel will be safe and
enjoyable – provided you do not go far; but there appear to be hazards connected
with long journeys. The same theme affects your business and social life – splendid
periods, particularly in February, May and November, alternatig with dullish to bad
patches mainly in January, September and October.

4 p.m. – midnight: If things go wrong in the early part of the year, keep calm; by
August or September, the clouds will begin to break. Happy domestic life with real
chance of a family addition. Lucky day: Wednesday, Number: 1.

OCTOBER 4

Midnight – 8 a.m.: You are in the early stages of a seven year cycle which will give
you every opportunity to expand and make your whole life more varied and
rewarding. Economic factors outside your control may dull your progress in the
autumn but this is a temporary setback.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Use your brains and ingenuity and learn not to be too complacent
so far as colleagues or associates are concerned; remember that however friendly,
they are still competitors. In June you will be faced with a situation where you will
have to assert yourself – it may be embarrassing, but your option is to fall behind.

4 p.m. – midnight: A physically and mentally exhausting phase from May to

October. Pay careful attention to diet and regime, find time for more exercise and try
to avoid stress and strain. Lucky day: Tuesday, Number: 4.

OCTOBER 5

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Excellent prospects of good relationships with sweethearts or

marriage partners. For the single, possibility of an important conquest in March.
Holiday prospects better than average. Finances fair to good.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Chance of a real financial breakthrough this year. The first step
may be a big gambling win or some successful investment in shares or property –
more likely shares. You have the Midas touch most markedly in June.
4 p.m. – midnight: An important year for single girls between 19 and 21; chance of
meeting a life-mate very strong, particularly in June, August and September. The
self-employed will make good money. Lucky day: Sunday, Number: 1.

OCTOBER 6

Midnight – 8 a.m.: If single and eligible to marry, then it is certain you will get
engaged or be married before the year is out. If not courting or in touch with the
right persons, make an effort to join clubs or organizations frequented by members
of the opposite sex.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Possibility of above average household expenses – probably on

repairs and decorations, but equally involving a complete change of residence.
Money tight because your mortgage interest rate may rise, or insurance premiums
increase.

4 p.m. – midnight: Between February and June you may link up with a person of
outstanding personality and ability; this person is likely to have a marked influence
on you. You will find new interests and new friends. Lucky day: Monday, Number: 3.

OCTOBER 7

Midnight – 8 a.m. A pretty topsy-turvy year, with everything going pretty much
against your expectations. Your ambitions and outlook will probably change radically.
Young men in the 23-25 age bracket, are likely to find a life partner.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Conditions tend to be, on the whole, disappointing. Still, you will
enjoy a great deal of satisfaction with most aspects of your job and your leisure
activities will make life extremely pleasant.

4 p.m. – midnight: September to November will be critical months for girls in their
early twenties. A real possibility of an engagement. A good year for most leisure
activities, with possibility of enhanced prestige through winning an important
competition. Lucky day: Saturday, Number: 9.

OCTOBER 8

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Wiser to put off important decision affecting domestic and
family situations, in the hope that there might be a dramatic change. It will be
necessary to curtail expenses. Otherwise, a harmonious year.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Most of your troubles this year center on domestic and family
problems. It is a critical time for offspring particularly. Some reassessment of
finances and how they are being spent may become necessary.

4 p.m. – midnight: You will be forced to reappraise your position pretty strongly.
Are you properly insured? Are your investments giving the proper returns ? Are you
spending too much on luxuries? The year ends with your finances on a sounder
basis. Lucky day: Thursday, Number: 1.
OCTOBER 9

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Good time for dealing with long-term investments – such as in
land or property. Possibility that a spare-time job will be worth expanding into a full-
time activity. Your social life hits a dull patch during February and March, but
suddenly improves around June.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: You find it easy to attract goodwill and to influence people, and
your personal popularity rises continually. Money will flow towards your more readily
than for the past two years. Your enhanced status will be reflected in a more active
social life.

4 p.m. – midnight: Your marriage partner is more demanding and you fret under
the restrictions and demands of matrimony. Too often you feel sorry for yourself,
most of the time without real justification. For the single, a romance is full of
unstable qualities. Lucky day: Monday, Number: 9.

OCTOBER 10

Midnight – 8 a.m. Happiness impossible unless you learn to recognize your own
frailties as well as those in others. From June you will have to accept some limitation
on your wishes and ambitions and recognize that your failures are not necessarily
due to other people’s malice.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Single people involved in deep-felt romance, will find the going
bumpy. Possibility of a break in the relationship unless real tolerance and
acknowledgement of personal faults is demonstrated. Few money or business
problems.

4 p.m. – midnight: Other people seem stiffer, colder, more antagonistic. The world
of business offers stiffer competition and you find associates or workmates harder
and harder to please. Few money difficulties, however. Lucky day: Tuesday,
Number: 7.
OCTOBER 11

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Likely to be a time of gradual emergence into a warmer

atmosphere; of developing strong ties of friendship; of receiving first-class support in
your efforts to express your talents or personality. An older relative may help
financially.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Seek out older and more conservative friends and social
acquaintances for advice; you will probably need some assistance in the autumn
when economic circumstances are at their tightest. Social life active, but sometimes
depressing.

4 p.m. – midnight: People, friends, colleagues seem to move further and further
from your orbit and in your preoccupation with your own satisfactions and ambitions,
you tend to do nothing to half the slide. By November, you may feel a pressing need
to reverse this trend. Lucky day: Sunday, Number: 8.

OCTOBER 12

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Some worry about finances and health – although there is
nothing seriously wrong with either. Possibility of a gift, inheritance or windfall, will
help to put your financial affairs on a sounder footing. For the single, a new romance
goes smoothly and the auguries are good.
8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: A gradual easing of pressures and less need to push your
ambitions. On the other hand, long suppressed feelings and emotions may begin
welling to the surface to cause havoc and perhaps embarrassment in your family
circle. Need to keep a tight rein.

4 p.m. – midnight: A period of great social activity between April and September,
following a major or series of substantial minor triumphs at work or business.
Women over 40 will find the year extremely harmonious, with plenty of club
activities and outings. Lucky day: Friday, Number: 9.

OCTOBER 13

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Fever pressure on business. More time, therefore, for leisure
activities. Women with families almost grown up will find themselves being invited to
join groups, organizations and clubs. Windfall possible in September.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Harassing time for young parents; business or work a hard slog
with money reward slow to materialize; and for the mother, little time to enjoy little
luxuries or social life. Holiday plans liable to be upset at the last moment.

4 p.m. – midnight: Scarcely the best of years. You are able to keep afloat well
enough, but outside pressures – such as strikes and squeezes – do nothing to help
you. Domestic expenditures heavy and you have anxieties about how to economize.
Lucky day: Thursday, Number: 6.

OCTOBER 14

Midnight – 8 a.m.: A good chance of stepping up the ladder of progress. You will be
asked to accept greater responsibility and have to work longer hours.
Compensations; a happier domestic background or, for the single, a more expansive
social field.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: For lovers, romance will remain on tender hooks as a series of
small misunderstandings and irritations puts a strain on the relationship. For the
married, October will see difficult relations with your partners. Social life uneven.

4 p.m. – midnight: Your accident-prone months are September and November. Try
to avoid journeys of more than 200 miles during this period. Finances gives a little
anxiety and some pretty strong economies may be necessary. Lucky day:
Wednesday, Number: 4.

OCTOBER 15

Midnight – 8 a.m. Domestic problems to the fore, particularly for those with young
or adolescent children. Careful supervision of health and some long and encouraging
discussions about careers and opportunities will be well rewarded, even if it takes
patience.

4 p.m. – midnight: If mistakes and errors creep into your work, remember that it is
the beginning of a new three-year cycle for you. For those under 40, it will mark a
period of retrenchment and consolidation prior to a final big push; for those over 40,
a phase when they can look forward to less hard work and responsibility.
4 p.m. – midnight: The whole structure of your life and character may be put to the
test around March or April. Your weaknesses will be ruthlessly exploited by others
and you could give way under the strain. The best antidote is self-discipline and
plenty of exercise. Lucky day: Monday, Number: 3.

OCTOBER 16

Midnight – 8 a.m.: A need to conserve all one’s resources – including normal robust
health. Times are harder, competition tougher and only the fit individual will continue
to do well. Some minor domestic disharmonies.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: A change of luck and a change of scene – both quite possible
within the next twelve months. Your own plans will probably be upset; but you will
be advised to go along with what others suggest.

4 p.m. – midnight: A cold and objective reappraisal of personal relationships will

become necessary after May. It may involve dropping an old friend or allying yourself
with a different colleague. For the single, September will be extremely romantic.
Lucky day: Thursday, Number: 8.

OCTOBER 17

Midnight – 8 a.m.: A year when you must be prepared not to get things your own
way or find everything running smoothly. Not all the problems are your fault, but it
would be worth re-examining your actions and motives all the same. A romantic
interlude of more than usual interest in May.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Fair to middling money prospects – but with no major

breakthroughs. On the other hand – pleasant holiday, moments of popularity, plenty
of friends, some convivial outings. A good year for all but the ambitious.

4 p.m. – midnight: No use caviling against the fates. The year will be far from
disastrous – but you will not make your fortune. Social and romantic prospects
excellent, however, with really lively moments in July and August. Lucky day:
Tuesday, Number: 2.

OCTOBER 18

Midnight – 8 a.m.: A time to guard one’s health and take every measure to
preserve one’s material possessions. The wrong time to spend more than is
absolutely essential; instead, a phase when you must save and conserve for the right
moment.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: A sense of discouragement and defeat must be guarded against;

remember that even the most successful men have their down periods. For women
over 40, a time for tolerance and understanding.

4 p.m. – midnight: Your creative mind will be actively employed on new ideas
between October and November; you will then find it necessary to capture the
interest of people who can forward your ambitions in practical terms. A pleasant
invitation in late May or early June. Lucky day: Saturday, Number: 4.

OCTOBER 19
Midnight – 8 a.m.: March to late September will provide some memorable
moments and you must savour and live them to the full. Push other thoughts and
ideas out of your head and enjoy yourself absolutely. Plenty of time later to worry
and fret about life.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: A good to excellent year for most under 30. In particular, a
romantic year for girls between 17 and 19; prospects of a very deep attachment.
Plenty of vivid, exhilarating moments with good stretches of contentment and
happiness as an alternative to those over 40.

4 p.m. – midnight: A light slowing down of progress. More obstacles to overcome;

more need to persuade others that you have the right ideas and the capacity to put
them into operation. Plenty of lively companionship and your share of romance.
Lucky day: Thursday, Number: 9.

OCTOBER 20

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Possibility of a continuing drain on resources – particularly on

your vitality. A real need to discipline any little over-indulgence and slackness; to
reorganize your present balance of work and leisure, so that you get more exercise
outdoors.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: An excellent year for young girls aged 19-24. You are much in
demand and you are likely to be invited to a very glamorous occasion in early June
by somebody you admire. Finances easy, but investment opportunities limited.

4 p.m. – midnight: A need to conserve resources continues. Watch reckless or

unnecessary expenditures; try and get things properly organized by working out
time, work, money schedules and budgets. Worth consulting experts such as
accountants or your bank manager. Lucky day: Monday, Number:8.

OCTOBER 21

Midnight – 8 a.m.: Social pleasures, good companions and friends and loved ones
and involvement in-group activities, make this a happy and pleasant year. A jarring
note in September when a quarrel or personal attack on you will cause bitterness. A
happy family event.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: A special invitation in May will change all your routines and your
entire outlook on life. Be prepared to take advantage of new circumstances. Benefits
through generous friends. Very good chance of a journey to an exotic place, with a

Different realms in the Universe
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, August 2007

In the Bhagavad-Gita Gita, we find a statement that there are three divisions of
material planes (regions) or planets in our universe. They are “urdhva-loka”
(highest), “madhya-loka” (middle), and “adho-loka” (lower). Above the urdhva-lokas
are the coverings of the material universe, beyond which lie the eternal realms of
existence. Within these three spheres of existence are 14 main regions with different
standards of life and duration of existence. The 14 regions are named as follows,
from highest to the lowest: 1) Satyaloka, 2) Tapaloka, 3) Janaloka, 4) Maharloka, 5)
Svarloka, 6) Bhuvarloka, 8) Atalaloka 9) Vitalaloka, 10) Sutalaloka, 11) Talatalaloka,
12) Mahatalaloka, 13) Rasatalaloka, and 14) Patalaloka.

Satyaloka

This is the abode of Lord Brahma, the progenitor of this material universe. Here,
there are some types of air-planes controlled by mantra, not by any mechanical
means. The residents have mind and intelligence, but no material gross bodies. They
feel compassion for those suffering in the lower regions, but do not suffer from fear,
old age, or death. At the time of final dissolution of the material planets, the
residents here transform their subtle bodies into spiritual bodies and enter the
eternal Vaikuntha region or plane. Great yogis finally reach this highest plant
through the Milky Way, which is the ”highway” to this most elevated planet, where
the duration of life is calculated as 15,480,000,000,000 Years.

Tapaloka

This is the abode of the four Kumaras named Sanat, Sanaka, Sanandana, and
Sanatana. In this port of the universe, many great sages also reside due to their
advancement through spiritual austerity. The enjoyment available to the residents is
inconceivable to us, as it is beyond anything within our experience. When there is
annihilation of the material universe, the residents here also transform their subtle
bodies to spiritual and enter the spiritual world.

Janaloka

This planet, sill above the heavenly realms, is another abode of great saints and
sages. This region is populated by mystics, who move to higher levels, and
eventually transform their subtle bodies to spiritual, when the fire of devastation
consumes the material possessions. These residents can move between any region
within the material universe as mystic “spacemen” at speeds unthinkable to us.

Maharloka

When fully purified from material desire and contamination through sacrifice,
penance, and charity, one can reach the heavenly planes, and if advance further can
pass through the higher orbits to reach Maharloka. The greatest of sages, such as
Bhrigu Muni, live in this place. It is situated beyond the “Sisumara”, which is the
pivotal point for the turning of the universe. Advanced yogis reach this region and
live here for 4,300,000,000 solar years. When the fire of devastation almost reached
this region, the residents transport themselves to Satyaloka where they live further
before this highest plateau of region is destroyed. They then transform their subtle
bodies to spiritual and enter the spiritual realms.

Dhruvaloka

In every material universe is one Vaikuntha region with an ocean of milk where Lord
Vishnu resides on an island called Svetadvipa. This region is Dhruvaloka. Living here
are personalities completely pure. In our universe, this planet is seen as the polestar
and is situated above the planes of the Seven Rishis. As it is a spiritual body, it is
eternal and therefore remains when all other planes within the material universes are
destroyed. It is said that this region is the pivot for the orbits of all material stars
and planets. All planets travel at high speeds in orbit, including the sun, which
travels 16,000 miles per second in its orbit around Dhruvaloka. The planets of the
seven sages are stars just below this plane that also orbit Dhruvaloka. They are
always concerned with the welfare of the living entities within this material world and
send emissaries to bring spiritual knowledge at various times and circumstances.

Sanaischara (Saturn)

Saturn is considered an inauspicious planet astrologically, as it gives painful lessons

to us here on earth. It is situated 1,600,000 miles beyond Jupiter and passes
through one sign of the zodiac every 30 months.

Brithaspati (Jupiter)
Jupiter is considered the most auspicious heavenly planet and is generally considered
favorable astrologically, depending on placement at the time of our births here on
earth. It is a planet of devas, and situated 1,600,000 miles beyond Mars.

Angaraka (Mars)

Mars is considered to be a malefic planet, which creates lack of rainfall on earth and
almost always is capable of creating unfavorable influences. It is situated 1,600,000
miles beyond Mercury.

Buddha (Mercury)

Mercury is said to be the son of the Moon and is 1,600,000 miles beyond the planet
Venus. As does Venus, it sometimes movies behind the Sun, sometimes in front, and
sometimes along with it. Generally the influence of Mercury is said to be auspicious
astrologically, except when not moving with the Sun. At such times, this planet
causes great storms on earth.

Beneath the higher worlds, in the sly, are the residences of the Yakshas,
Rakshashas, Pisachas, ghosts, and other ethereal beings. This realm extends as far
as the wind blows and the clouds move in the sky.

Sukra (Venus)

Venus is considered an auspicious and favourable planet. It is said to bring rainfall,

another reason for it being considered auspicious to sustain life on earth.

Chandraloka (Moon)

The Moon is one of the four very important residences of the demigods. Those who
worship the demigods. Those who worship the demigods through sacrifice aimed at
great material enjoyment are promoted to the Moon. Here the celestial, intoxicating
beverage called “soma” is available. It is not possible to enter into or even see the
actual heavenly dimensions of this planet with our present human eyes. The Moon
passes through the entire zodiac in approximately one month. He influences the
growth of vegetation and therefore considered the life-giver for all living beings on
earth.

Surya (Sun)

The Sun is the sources of light and heat for our universe. Modern science considers
many stars also to be Suns, but in the Vedic literature, they are considered to be
planets of varying material elements, (not the centre, as is the Sun). Surya, the sun
god, is considered an expansion of Lord Narayana (a form of Lord Vishnu). Sun
controls the seasons here on earth. It is situated between Bhuloka and Bhuvarloka,
rotating through the time-circle of the zodiac. Yogis practicing Hatha or Ashtanga
yoga, or those performing agnihotra sacrifices, worship the Sun form their benefit.
The demigods belonging to the Sun region have bodies made of fire, necessary for
life here.

Rahu

Rahu is said to be an invisible planet, which is situated 80,000 miles below the Sun.
It causes solar and lunar eclipses, as Rahu, along with Ketu, are the North and South
nodes of the Moon respectively.

Siddhaloka, Caranaloka, & Vidyadharaloka

These regions are 80,000 miles below Rahu. The residents of these regions are born
with natural mystic powers, including the ability to fly without mechanical means,
even to other planets. They have all the mystic siddhis, and being materially perfect
beings can control gravity, time, and space. Their arts, culture, and sciences are far
superior to the knowledge possessed by us here as in the earthly realm.

Yakshaloka & Rakshashaloka

Beneath these higher plateaus in the sky called “antariksha”, are the residences of
the Yakshas, Rakshashas, Pisachas, ghost, under the other etheral beings. This
realm extends as far as the wing blows and clouds are in the sky. Above this there is
no air.

All the regions in the material world will, in course of time, be annihilated. This
annihilation of the material world is the exact reverse of the process of creation.
Everything ultimately rests within the Supreme Absolute.

Bhu-mandala (Middle Earth)

The planetary systems of the middle of the earth (Bhumandala or Bhuloka) are
abodes of both standards of living such as we enjoy on our planet, as well as some
heavenly abodes, where living being may “stop” on the way to, or from, births in the
heavenly planetary systems. There are seven planetary systems, which are divided
by seven oceans. The names of the planetary systems are Jambu, plaksha, Salmali,
kusha, Krauncha, Shaka, and Pushkara. Each system is twice as large as the one
preceding it and each ocean between the systems are made respectively of salt
water, sugarcane juice, liquor, ghee, milk, emulsified yogurt, and sweat water.

Bhumandala is shaped like a lotus flower and the seven planetary systems are in the
whorl of the lotus. The radius of Bhumandala extends as far as the sunshine, and the
limits of our vision here to see the stars and moon. As the sun shine reaches from a
distance of 93,000,000 miles, this is the radius of the plane of the Bhumandala.

Lower Regions

Below the earth are seven other systems called Atala, Vitala, Sutala, Talatala,
Mahatala, Rasatala, and Patala. These lower planes are the same size as the earth
and begin 560,000 miles below earth. Sunshine does not reach these areas. These
regions are populated by persons of great power and opulence, yet of demoniac
consciousness, who have reached here through austerity aimed at material
enjoyment without spiritual development. They do not become old and diseased and
fear only the time factor, which ultimately must destroyed their abodes. Therefore
they are given the name of “bilasvarge”, or subterranean heavenly planets.

The residence here enjoy a standard of material comfort more opulent then even the
higher planets, due to their desires for high standards of sensual enjoyment wealth,
and influence. The residents are known as Daityas, Danavas, and Nagas and are all
engaged in illusory material enjoyment with no thought of spiritual liberation. There
are incredible feats of architecture in their cities bedecked with valuable jewels in
houses, gardens, compounds, etc. All residents drink juices and bathe in herbal
elixirs, which free them from any anxiety or physical disease, as well as any sigh of
physical aging. The visual beauty of these artificial heavens surpasses that of the
higher planets and this sensual atmosphere completely capture the mind, allowing no
thoughts but those directed toward sensual pleasure and happiness. Since time is
not divided into days and night due to sunshine NOT reaching these planets, they
have no fear produced by time. Only at the time of dissolution do anxiety and fear
consume them.

Narakaloka, the Hell

Beneath the patalaloka, and slightly above the water of the Garbhodaka Ocean, are
the Narakalokas, or the hell. These regions indicate of different degrees of suffering
for those who must endure life there. Here on earth, we can see many hellish
circumstances of suffering for people, but nothing like what is experienced on these
planets. They are said to be a place of rectification for those who commit the most
abominable actions while living as humans on the earthly plane. Although life here
seems like it goes on for an eternity, in actual fact the duration of one’s “karmic
sentence” here may be only seconds or moments. There are 28 different hellish
planets described in the Vedic literatures. These descriptions of the material creation,
as well as the spiritual planets, may be found in several Vedic literatures to a far
greater depth.

All of the planetary systems in the material world will, in course of time, be
annihilated. This annihilation takes place in two ways. Partial annihilation occurs
every 4,300,000,000 solar years, or at the end of each day on Satyaloka. This
extends from the hellish regions through all lower planetary systems up to the
heavenly planets. The highest regions are not annihilated at this time. The entire
cosmic manifestation is wound up in the universal form of God every
8,600,000,000x30x12x100 solar years. The spiritual world, which is never
annihilated, simply absorbs the material creation. It is described that before the
destruction, there is no rain for hundreds of years everything dries up and dies due
to continuous sunshine. The sum becomes 12 times as powerful as was previously.
Then there are horrendous rains that absorb everything into water. The mortal
bodies of living entities, including all vegetation, merge into the earth. The earth
merges into its subtle sensation of fragrance. Fragrance merges into water, and
water merges into its quality of taste. That taste merges into fire, which merges into
form. Form merges into touch and touch into ether. Ether finally merges into the
sensation of sound. The senses all merge into their origins, the presiding devas and
demigods, then they merge into the controlling mind which merges into ego in the
mode of goodness. Sound becomes one with ego in the mode of ignorance, and ego
(the first of all the physical elements), merges into the total nature. The total
material nature dissolves into the modes (goodness, passion, and ignorance). These
modes then merge into the unmanifest form of nature, and that unmanifest form
merges into time. Time merges into the Supreme Godhead, present as Maha Vishnu,
the original creator of the cosmic manifestation. The origin of all life merges into
God, the unborn Supreme Soul, who remains one without a second, and from whom
all creation and annihilation takes place. This annihilation of the process of creation.
Everything ultimately rests within the Supreme Absolute.
Salutations to Sun

Surya Namaskar energizes the entire neuro-glandular and neuro-muscular systems

of the body. Its regular practice ensures a balanced supply of oxygenated blood and
perfect harmony to all the systems of the body, thus invigorating the entire
psychosomatic system of human constitution.

The term ‘Surya Namaskar’ means ‘salutation to the Sun’. Surya Namaskar is an
exercise sequence, which has both the physical and the spiritual aspects. On the
physical side, it involves a series of aasanas or yogic postures which provide the
body with a most complete exercise. Virtually all the parts of the body, including the
thoracic and abdominal organs, are exercised and rejuvenated with vitality.
Spiritually, the Surya Namaskar is a method of propitiating the Sun-god and
soliciting his blessings. These include quick progress in meditation, a sharp intellect,
a sound health, and acquisition of spiritual wisdom.

Surya Namaskar consists of three important elements, each of which needs to be

carefully attended to for maximum possible benefits. If proper attention is not given
to details, the results may not be attained in full.

1. Aasanas or body postures: Surya Namaskar is an exercise in a sequence,

involving twelve different body-postures, as if to signify the twelve signs of the
Zodiac through which the passage of the Sun results in the formation of twelve
months of a year. This exercise involves six postures, which proceed in one direction
and another six which mark the return to the original position. It is virtually
equivalent to the Sun traversing six signs of the Zodiac to give rise to one ‘ayana’ of
six months, and returning through another six signs to give rise to another ‘ayana’
thus constituting the Uttaraayana (the northerly course) and the Dakshinaayana (the
southerly course). The completion of a cycle of Uttaraayana and Dakshinaayana
brings the Sun back to its original position, from where the next solar cycle starts.

2. Breathing: Yogic practices lay great stress on regulation of breathing, which helps
the practitioner to gain control over the life-force within the body as well as outside.
Synchronisation of breathing with physical postures is an important constituent of
the practice of Hatha-yoga. In Surya Namaskar, the different postures, when
correctly practised, is rhythmical, one naturally leading to the other. The sequence of
breathing, consisting of inhalation, exhalation or retention, has also been advocated,
as it would most naturally happen during the various postures.

3. Incantations or Mantras: Each of the twelve postures of this exercise-sequence is

associated with a mantra or potentiated incantation. A specific mantra has to be
chanted, when a specific posture in the sequence is attained. It is thus a
synchronization of posture, breath and mantra, all together proceeding in a
sequence.

The Sequence of Postures. It is appropriate now to describe the various postures that
constitute the different steps of the Surya Namaskar. It is good to repeat the
mantras in the beginning of each of the 12 cycles.

The mantras can also be chanted mentally with each of the 12 positions of
Surya Namaskar as listed below:
1. Om mitraaya namah: Stand facing East in the direction of the rising Sun, both feet
touching each other at the heels, the hands together, palm-to-palm, at the heart.

2. Om ravaye namah: Inhale and raise the arms upward. Slowly bend backward,
stretching arms above the head.

3. Om suryaaya namah: Exhale slowly bending forward, touching the earth with
respect until the hands are in line with the feet, head touching knees.

4. Om bhaanave namah: Inhale and take a wide backward step with the right leg.
Keep the hands and feet firmly on the ground, with the left foot between the hands.
Raise the head.

5. Om svagaaya namah: While exhaling, bring the left foot together with the right.
Keep arms straight, raise the hips and align the head with the arms, forming an
upward arch.

6. Om puushne namah: Hold your breath and lower the body to the floor until the
feet, knees, hands, chest, and forehead are touching the ground.

7. Om hiranyagarbhaaya namah: Inhale and slowly lower the hips to the floor, (hips
should be slightly raised above the ground) and bend backward as much as possible.

8. Om mareechaye namah: While exhaling, bring the left foot together with the
right. Keep arms straight, raise the hips and align the head with the arms, forming
an upward arch.

9. Om aadityaaya namah: Inhale and move the right leg back, away from the body
in a wide backward step. Keep the hands and feet firmly on the ground, with the left
foot between the hands. Raise the head.

10. Om savitre namah: Exhale slowly bending forward, touching the earth with
respect until the hands are in line with the feet, head touching knees.

11. Om arkaaya namah: Inhale and raise the arms upward. Slowly bend backward,
stretching arms above the head.

12. Om bhaskaraaya namah: Exhale, bring the left foot together with the right. Keep
arms straight, raise the hips and align the head with the arms, forming an upward
arch.

Surya Namaskar makes your body grow flexible and strong; your mind gets
focused.
Pleasing the planets

MANTRA is a mysterious group of letters or phrases so connected with one another

that when it is chanted, a peculiar sensation or vibration is generated in the entire
system. When one chants a mantra correctly and systematically with proper
intonation, it immediately sets up a vibration in the nervous system in such a
manner that harmony is enhanced in the body and also in the whole world. Different
mantras produce different vibrations and they invoke different deities.

Mantra is chanted to execute a certain purpose. It is believed that in each mantra,

the energy of a particular deity remains latent, but it becomes active the moment
the mantra is pronounced accurately in the manner prescribed by the sastras.
According to Vedic beliefs, if a mantra is pronounced correctly, the deity to whom it
is addressed has no choice but to respond to the invoker automatically and help him.

There are several mantras and remedies to please the planets, as prescribed in the
various scriptures. We are giving below the most effective ones in our day-to-day
life, such as the relevant potent mantras, charity, deity to be worshipped, pooja and
the offerings, specification of Rudraksha, etc.

New planet holds possibility for life

First earth-sized planet found, circling its mother-star, at a distance suitable for life,
with good prospects for liquid surface water.

The new media have been very excited over the discovery of a “habitable” planet
around a nearby star. All sorts of adjectives are tossed around about the planet, and
most make it sound like a twin of Earth. To put the record straight, this planet is NOT
going to be particularly Earth-like any more than Mars and Venus are Earth-like.

Recently, a team of astronomers led by Stephane Udry and Michael Mayor (Geneva
Observatory) announced the discovery of two new planets orbiting the star Gliese
581. Already, a larger planet, having over 15 times the Earth’s mass, had been
found orbiting very close to the star. But, there were two more, smaller planets of
masses about 5 Earth masses (Gliese 581c) and about 8 Earth masses (Gliese 581d)

What makes the smaller of the two new planets (Gliese 581c) special is where it is
located. Gliese 581c is at just the right distance that Udry et al suggests that the
average temperature may fall within the range of -3 C to 40 C. The presumption is
that if it is somewhere in the middle of that range, then it may be able to support
liquid water, as on Earth.

Know about the year ahead

How will you fare in the next year?

In general the collective focus will turn from materialistic aspects to the mental and
social concerns. Networking, collaboration and community-building will take a
quantum leap. Get ready for the next wave of change rolling in soon. Innovative
solutions, social reforms and new pathways of commerce can be easily developed.
An attitude adjustment may be needed in the emotional or domestic sphere. Some
may gain insight through religious teachings or a moment of faith. There is also a

Governing Factors for Marital Happiness
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, May 2006

The seventh house from the ascendant, Moon, Venus and Libra sign, govern
marriage and life-partner in a male chart. Seventh house from the ascendant, Moon,
Mars and Scorpio sign are the governing factors in a female chart, Mars in the female
chart denotes husband, as it is the karaka for husband. Eighth house from the
ascendant, Moon and Venus signify marital pleasures in a male chart, while the same
factors but substituting Venus with Mars speaks of conjugal bliss in a female
horoscope.

The factors which govern the marital pleasures, wife and other allied matters can be
defined as under: Mars, Eighth House, Scorpio, Seventh House, Venus, Libra and
Twelfth House.

Seventh House

Seventh house in a chart signifies spouse, sexual organ, married life and pleasures
therefrom, union of general nature, diplomacy, honour in foreign countries, type of
death, tactfulness and trade union activities. According to Sage Jaimini, a planet
posited lowest in degrees becomes the representative (karaka) of wife in a male
chart and that of the husband in a female chart. None of the Nodes matters much in
this consideration. As Venus denotes wife for male and Mars the karaka for husband,
the seventh house from either of them is also of similar importance. Seventh house
from Moon also be given its due allowance of share, as Moon itself is considered as
the Lagna and further indicates the inner mind and passions.

Eighth House

This is supposed to be a hidden and mysterious house. Matters pertaining to fear

from enemies, disease, insults in life, theft or burglary, unsuccessful attempts,
buried treasure, longevity of the spouse, disease of the sexual organs inheritance,
legacy and insurance matters are taken up from this house. Body parts like kidney,
pelvis, bladder, testicles are also signified by this house.

Libra

The seventh sign of the zodiac is called Libra. It is a sign of balance and is a
Cardinal, positive and Airy Sign. Air is the medium of communication with people.
Libra also represents shaping centres, markets etc. the ruler of this sign is Venus,
which itself is a Watery planet. People having dominance of this sign are generally
fond of sensual pleasures and indulges beyond the normal limits. Persons of these
signs are married early in life and are of conventional types. They are devoted to
their spouse but at the same time never think twice to have clandestine affairs,
which they always try to conceal by all means at their disposal. They expect variety
in all spheres of life. By this, it does not imply that they are divorce-seeking types.
Truth and honesty have a special appeal for these people. They become political
leaders and religious reformers.

Scorpio

It is the eighth sign of the Zodiac. Scorpio is the symbol of this sign. It has domain
over thick liquids, poisons, sewage, chemicals and mineral matters. Physical and
moral courage are the main traits. It is supposed to be a Watery sign, but some
opine that it is a fiery sign, as Mars is the ruler. People having influence of this sign
over them prefer privacy and secrecy, rather than being straight forward. It is a
hidden sign. A female under the influence of Scorpio is of masculine in nature and is
interested in occult sciences. These people are hard to influence. Excitement,
brutality, frugalness are also judged by this sign. Persons suffering from piles are
generally seen to have Scorpio afflicted in their chart.

Native under the influence of this sign has a sharp intellect, and he is shrewd and
calculating. Life for him is a closed book; nature being uncertain and complex,
usually one born under this sign is capable of moulding the present by working hard,
provided he overcomes his wavering mentality. Scorpio natives are further restless
and unbalanced in sex matters. If they can control their sensual urges, harsh
language and exhibition of personal emotions, they can lead a decent and disciplined
life. Scorpio natives are often those individuals who are born to fulfill some divine
mission. Their life is somewhat purposeful and is often well directed either for good
or evil. One thing which the Scorpio natives must note is that frustration awaits them
with open arms to cause unhappiness, in the matter of sensual pleasures.

Twelfth House

This house signifies a person’s wanderings, expenditure in life, confiscation, bed

comforts, emancipation, occult science, left eye, secret enemies, imprisonment,
disturbed sleep. Tendencies, towards retirement, sacrifices, marital rivals, co-wives,
etc. Saturn and ketu are the karakas of this house.

Mars

Mars is the Commander-in-Chief in the celestial family. He is reddish in colour. He

has a youthful form with a lean body and a slender waist. His height is seven yojnas.
By nature, Mars is rather a cruel planet. He is rash in actions but generous at the
same time. His body is warm. Mars represents Rajasic qualities, and rules over
southern direction. He represents red grains, fire, thorny trees, wild animals, sheep,
younger brothers, lands and houses, war, thieves, battles, daring acts, cruelty,
power, bronze, pump, etc. he is strong during night, especially in the dark lunar half.

In maters of marriage, Mars is the karaka for husband and signifies passion, in the
chart of women. He also rules over menstrual periods in women. Mars causes the
breakage of uterus tissue in a female and thus menses flow. Since the birth of the
civilization, it has been noted that when Mars in transit aspect the ascendant or lunar
sign of a girl, she attains puberty.

Combining all these actors governing conjugal pleasures, we can summarize the
following:-

1. The Seventh house from the ascendant, Moon, Venus and Libra sign, govern
marriage and life-partner in a male chart.

2. Seventh house from the ascendant, Moon, Mars and Scorpio sign are the
governing factors in a female chart. Mars in the female chart denotes husband, as it
is the karaka for husband.

3. Eighth house from the ascendant, Moon and Venus signify marital pleasures in a
male, while the same factors but substituting Venus with Mars speaks of conjugal
pleasures in a female horoscope.

4. Ascending sign, its lord, Sun and Moon occupying Male signs confer masculine
qualities on the native, while reverse shall be the result in case of occupying the
Female signs. This rule holds good for both males and females.
Transmute Energy of retrograde Jupiter for self-
development
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, April 2007

In every chart, opportunities of natives are earmarked with planets and its functions,
whether direct or retrograde. In the case of retrogression, the attitude of the native
will alter, which shall be observed differently in different bhavas. Retrograde Jupiter
will make the native re-do his imperfect past life time, when the ‘self’ lacked
development.

JUPITER, the benefic planet, is synonymous with generosity, good judgement,

authority, legal matters, religion and money as well. A retrograde Jupiter will fashion
itself as a self-expansion of unfulfilled achievements of the past birth; opportunity
lost is being re-done in the current life. For an individual, it is to re-enact and attain
self-development. Thus retrograde Jupiter in a natal chart indicates that the native
lacked self-growth in the past life and he is to complete the process in the current
life. An entire lifetime was wasted and now the native has to transmute the energy of
retrograde Jupiter for self-development.

Effects of retrograde Jupiter in various houses of the natal chart

1st House: The native shall be unrefined and unreliable; makes odd judgement;
dishonest; irreligious and alcoholic.

Lesson to be learnt: To develop self-awarness by retrospect know oneself and

avoid self-deception.

2nd House: The native will foolishly spend his money and resources; will move
around in gaudy attire; pseudo decorations etc.

Lesson to be learnt: Re-evaluate the financial needs and devise plans for proper
utility of money, material and men, if in business.

3rd House: Retrograde Jupiter in the 3rd will aspect the 9th bhava. Relationships
with brothers and uncles will be wanting. Lack of tact, dignity, faith and
communication skills.

Lesson to be learnt: Try to realize oneself and work towards worthwhile goals.

4th House: Disturbed living environment, whether house or elsewhere; so also the
state of mind, which is the seat of soul; lack of generosity and socializing nature.

Lesson to be learnt: Develop compassion; avoid one-sided approach; identify the

real needs and work towards them.

5th House: Lack or improper education or technical training; denial of progeny;

inattentive, parents, avarice in sensual pleasure and lack of care of health.

Lesson to be learnt: Develop compassion and proper involvement in matters of the

opposite sex and children.

6th House: Unhappiness with colleagues and other associates; un healthy physique
and bad habits.

Lesson to be learnt: Be very cautious with health. Maintain good relationships with
people in general, colleagues and relatives in particular.

7th House: Not faithful in business partnership, marriage and any contract; highly
self-centred; involve only in personal gratification and promotion; loss in partnership
venture.

Lesson to be learnt: Be sincere and honest; do a fair play in all matters; balanced
approach on personal gains.

8th House: There will be fear of the unknown death; improper handling of others
money and affairs; poor judgement; poor taste; being one’s own enemy.

Lesson to be learnt: Make a sincere search for truth; discriminate bad; perpetuate
truths. Try to understand and accept the reality of death.

9th House: The native should have abused freedom in the past birth. He believes
what he does is right and does not accept others’ views. He did not avail the
opportunity for mental development in the past.

Lesson to be learnt: Stress should be given for development of knowledge and

philosophy of life. Gain practical wisdom.

10th House: There was frustration and disappointment in the preferred field in the
past birth. Dishonour, irresponsibility, poor judgement, lack of dignity may be a few
of impediments now.

Lesson to be learnt: Learn to respect authority; remain dedicated in your career;

give due regard for in your career; give due regard for order, procedure, law, etc.

11th House: Negative social activities in the past birth; alcoholism; immorality.

Lesson to be learnt: Wise discrimination in choice of friends and associates; should

develop good taste and discretion; maintain good moral standards.

12th House: Energy was misused in the past birth; wasteful activities, ‘I’ ‘me’ and
‘mine’ were over-emphasized; misdirected spiritual concept.

Lesson to be learnt: Seek true spiritually, compassion and brotherhood. Assume

personal responsibility.
Lovers and Love Marriage
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, March 2006

The relationship between the 1st and the 7th lords has, to be studied thoroughly,
before predicting love marriage on a nativity. Another important combination which
causes love-marriage is the relationship between the 5th lord and the 7th lord either
by mutual exchange of houses or by conjunction.

The difference between the usual arranged marriage and love marriage is that, while
the former is arranged by the third party, the latter is managed by the boy and the
girl themselves. Love marriage presupposes intimacy and love or infatuation among
the boy and girl. Love should definitely precede the marriage ceremony so that it
could be called ‘Love marriage’. Mythologically it is called Gandharva Vivaha.

Astro-pointers

While looking for a yoga causing love marriage, we have to assess the 1st and 7th
houses and the relationship between the 1st and 7th lords in the nativity. The
native’s capacity for love has also to be ascertained and for this we have to look at
the 5th house, which is associated with the lover or the beloved and Venus the
karaka for love. The lord of the 11th house also plays its part. The 9th house is the
house of fortune, which also is to be studied simultaneously.

A study of persons, who have had romantic experiences in their life, reveals that,
when there is an exchange of houses between the 1st and the 7th lords, the native
gets response from his beloved or her lover.
Persona of Sonia Gandhi
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, Feburary 2006

The three main factors, which govern the destiny of a person, are the ascendant,
Sun and Moon. Ascendant depends upon the latitude and longitude of the place of
birth, progression and their calculations. It describes the destiny, which is in store for
a person in this birth and thus it is the DNA of the horoscope. The Sun and Moon are
the two planets, which provide the energy in store. Their attributes govern one’s
nature and thus the actions.

SONIA GANDHI was born on 09 December 1946 and she had just completed 60
years. Many have been analyzing her past, ups and downs in her life and rationalized
the events that have happened.

The three main factors, which govern the destiny of a person are the ascendant
(which appears in the horoscope depending on the latitude, longitude, progression
and their calculations) Sun and Moon. Ascendant describes the destiny, which is in
store for a person in this birth and thus it is the DNA of the horoscope. The Sun and
Moon are the two planets, which provide the energy in store. Their attributes govern
one’s nature and thus the actions. Based on the above, one’s intrinsic nature can be
put forth.

Cancer Ascendant

The ascendant is Cancer, which broadly makes a person emotional, sensitive and
immensely attached to the family; once they decide for a purpose in life, they do all
they can to achieve it. Late Indira Gandhi was also born under the same ascendant.
Ascendant is placed in the constellation Aslesha, whose star lord is Mercury with sub-
lord Rahu. Let us now analyze the basic energy accumulation, which prevails, in the
native. This constellation heralds Mercurial energy, represented in the night–sky by a
ring of stars in the constellation of Hydra, known in the modern astronomy as
Epsilon-Hydrae, Delta-Hydrae, Mu-Hydrae, Rho-Hydrae, Sigma-Hydrae and Zeta-
Hydrae. These stars are easily visible in a dark sky from pollution free vantage
points, even though they are not bright stars. Moon and Mercury are the two planets
connected with this nakshatra, Mercury being the main planetary ruler. Aslesha is
considered to be an active nakshatra. It often appears to be a passive one, because
all its activities are hidden. Even if an Aslesha native seems to be physically passive,
one will find that they are weaving many webs on the mental plane. Aslesha’s
activities are subterranean in all aspects of the world. In the present age, all the
workings of the elite take place in secret, away from the eyes of the public and so
one cannot help but see a dominant role of Aslesha in the arena of power. Aslesha is
supposed to be the place, where the intellect develops itself to control and direct the
vast subconscious and instinctive workings of the mind. In today’s world, Mercury’s
ability to direct Moon is used for deceiving the masses (Moon) through the media
(Mercury).

Sun: It is the second most important planet in her horoscope and it is in the 5th
house with Mercury and Ketu, having the Jupiter-Venus conjunction on one side and
Mars on the other side. The 5th house is the place of intuition and Sun combined
with Mercury and Ketu gives the person a very high level of intuitive power, relating
to the sub-conscious state. Sun is in the star of Jyeshta, whose lord is Mercury.
“Jyeshta” means the “Eldest” or “Seniormost”. Jyeshtais a nakshatra, where keeping
up an image is more important than anything else. Jyeshta natives usually do
everything from a unique point of view, which cares a great deal about how others
are perceiving them. They want to gain respect in society and do whatever is
necessary to adhere to the prevailing standards. In ancient times, when real acts of
charity, kindness and philanthropy were the stepping stones to a respectful position,
Jyeshta functioned well. One peculiarity of Jyeshta is that it gives prosperity only
through an accult, supernatural or extraordinary means.

Moon: The third important planet is Moon, which is the lord of the lagna occupying
the 12th house. This shows that she will be prosperous in the country, which is not
her birth place. Moon, in the house of Mercury, gives a sharp intellect capable of
understanding the pros and cons of any situation. Moon has Saturn on one side and
Rahu on the other side, which gives the capacity of unique planning and thinking big;
but Saturn ensures that the plans are executed in a thoughtful and cohesive manner.
Saturn being retrograde in the ascendant again re-affirms her intuitive power.

Moon governing the mind is in the nakshatra of Arudra, whose lord is Rahu. ‘Arudra’
means “green”, “fresh”, or “the moist one”. It is not hard to notice that all these
refer to a feeling of renewal. For example, the word “moist” may refer to the
moisture in the air, which forms the clouds, which in turn causes rain. The rain in
turn brings life to the earthly vegetation and makes them “fresh” and “green”. Its
main symbol is Diamond, even though many scholars opine a Teardrop as its primary
symbol. The nature of Arudra is like that of child. Natives under its influence have an
ability to flit past from intense joy to intense sorrow, within a matter of minutes.
Arudra is always involved in a churning process making the natives undergo constant
transformation. It is considered to be a balanced nakshatra and its balanced nature
stems from its mental and intellectual acumen. Those who think, analyze and
contemplate do not usually go to extremes. All of Arudra’s diffusion, chaos and
turbulence is nothing but the nature’s way of restoring balance. If we are facing
some tormenting situation in the present life, its only purpose is to dissolve and
balance out our karmas from previous lives. The thunder-storm is also a typical
manifestation of nature’s way of restoring balance. Thus, with the above, one can
easily see the qualities, which are reflected through the Ascendant (Aslesha), Sun
(Jyeshta) and Moon (Arudra).
Tantric Remedies for Professional Enhancement
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, January 2007

Tantric yoga is one of several esoteric traditions of India. Tantra is used, when the
situation becomes adverse and no conceivable solution is found even by Mantra.
Effective upayas or remedies are available for various types of problems in life and a
few are listed here, regarding the professional front.

Better Prospects in Employment or Profession

Un employed or alternate job seeker has to take a large size, well-developed. Yellow-
coloured Lime and cut it into 4 equal parts. Throw each piece in East, South, West
and North directions at a four-junction road for 11 consecutive days without a break.
You will get an employment.

If you have professional problem, soak Black gram on a Friday night and season it
with Mustard oil the following day. Divide it into three parts. A third of it may be
given to a horse or buffalo, 2nd portion to a leper and take the last portion in your
hand, wave it around your head in the anti-clockwise direction. Do this continuously
for 40 days. Your impediment will vanish.

If you need a favourable posting or promotion, then after your bath, offer water and
flower to the rising Sun in the morning for 27 days on a row without a break.

Your income will increase, if you offer wet Black Gram dal to monkeys on
Tuesdays.

Offer 7 cereals (sapta dhanya) to birds for growth in service.

Zooming Business

When in doubt that someone is envious of your progress and has an evil eye on you,
get a tooth of a Boar (wild pig) and get it placed on the wall in full vicinity. Do this on
the first Wednesday of the Waxing Moon. Alternatively, you can place a white
Ganesa (shwetark) image smeared with sindur and Silver foil. This will take care of
your progress and moreover your decisions thereafter will be apt.

Take a piece of a thread made of raw cotton and dye it with pure Saffron chanting
the mantra “Om Mahalakshmyei Namah”. Tie this thread at your business-shop or
establishment. Your business shall flourish. Those in service should keep this thread
in the drawer of their table for better service conditions and to get quick promotion.

Procure 7 green chilies with straight stem and a Lime on any Tuesday. Tie them all in
a black thread and hang them with the help of a peg outside your premises. Do so
on every Tuesday. This measure ensures flourishing business. You can do so even on
Saturdays as well.

If you have recurring loss in business, perform Gayatri Sahasranam havan. Collect
the ashes from the homakhund, wrap it in white cloth and preserve at home and
office. Your business will flourish. Even chronic health problems will be overcome.

For reverting to success on a loss making unit, clear all bushes or wild growth around
the Tulsi plant; if you do not have one, plant a fresh one in a clean area and take the
leaves from it and wrap it in Yellow cloth for placing both at home and office. See
success for yourself.

To tide over business problem, after your early morning bath, offer water to the
rising Sun and chant Gayatri mantra alongside. If possible, chant Aditya hrudaya
stothra also.

When you are worried about dwindling number of customers, cut 5 Limes to pieces
on a Saturday, and Mustard seeds, some black Pepper and a Clove. Keep them in the
establishment. Following day, crush all of them between your hands. Repeat this and
see success.

For growth of business, clean a portion of business premises with Ganges water;
draw a Swastik with Saffron or Turmeric paste. Place Channa dal and jaggery. Light
a ghee lamp on Thursdays.

If problem arises, whenever material is procured for business, buy some toys along
with and gift them to children. You will be happy to see the change.
Amitabh Bachan – Prediction based on Name and
Nakshatra
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Shri Amitabh Bhachan was born in Allahabad on 11.10.1942 at 16:00:00 hrs.

Astrology is a complex science where we all know that Moon affects the tide of the
oceans, the birds migrate during various seasons, and Sun has an impact on the
energy and the flow of river Nile. This has been observed by Scientists since
centuries and the complex Solar system has an impact on the functioning of the
earth. We, as human beings are also a part of this system and thus the vibrations
generated by various activities in the solar system though impact us. The deep
essentials of astrology and what I term as non-essentials have to be differentiated.

In the analysis of Shri Amitabh Bhachan, I believe that the importance should be
given to the intrinsic nature with which a person is born and this shapes his actions
and thus destiny. Here, I am analyzing the impact of the word `Amitabh’ and the
constellation or nakshatra in which he was borne. This gives a broad and a fairly
accurate analysis of the inherent traits of the person which is the core.
Numerological Meaning of `Amitabh’

[Gender: M=Male, FLN (First Letter Number) : 1, EN (Expression Number):

9, SN (Soul Urge Number) : 11/2, PN (Persona Number): 7, RN (Recurring
Numbers) : 1,2 ]

Inspiration and intuition figure very prominently in Amitabh’s thinking processes,

decisions and actions. Friendly, frank, unorthodox, empathetic, charismatic,
inspiring, kind, courageous and generous, he finds it difficult to limit himself to a
restricted group whether in personal, social or professional life. A philosopher, he is
greatly interested in understanding others’ behavior and reasons for unique ways of
thinking. As most of the numeric values associated with his name are odd, it is likely
that Amitabh will be driven more by the dynamic master number 11 in his soul urge
rather than the quieter and passive 2. The number 11 enhances his ability to excel in
creative or artistic endeavors. It increases a desire for community service and
Amitabh will gain more serenity of mind and a deep satisfaction when he performs
selfless service for the greater good. Gifted with the ability to communicate and
project thoughts in a creative fashion, he can be instrumental in helping people bring
positive change into their lives. If he decides to work on this talent for a profession,
he could prove to be a dynamic teacher or counselor. When he is more artistic, his
work can touch others’ lives in inspiring ways. If in business, Amitabh can be quite
the confident and aggressive go-getter, and its quite possible that his work will make
him travel extensively. The first letter number 1 brings self-control and the
expression number 9 can make him quite impulsive. He may therefore easily sway
between the extremes of immediately acting on his instincts and in the other
extreme exercising self-control in order to think things carefully and thoroughly
before taking any action. Amitabh’s partner should understand his need to reach out
to more people and should be able to keep up with his ever-expanding social
network.

The number 1 and 2 recur twice each in Amitabh’s name heightening his imagination
and thus creativity and intuition. All his numbers considered together indicate an
outstanding diplomat.

Considering the date, month and year are accurate; his Moon is at 10.19’
and thus ruled by Swati Nakshtra, which ruled by Rahu.

Ancient Vedic seers associated a lot of importance to this bright star and saw it as
the abode of Saraswati, the goddess of learning. Its Symbol is a `young plant shoot
blown by the wind’ Its main presiding Deity, is Vayu, the god of wind. He is one of
the five main gods residing in Swarga (heavenly astral plane), who are responsible
for taking care of the five main elements of nature – earth, wind, fire, water and
ether. “Balance” is the keyword for native born under the strong influence of this
nakshatra. Balance is a double-edged sword and many Swati types are seen to avoid
taking any stance on any matter due to their extreme need to maintain harmony.
Mode of Functioning of the native of Swati is more of a “wait and watch” rather than
a “run and get it” types of nakshatra. In Gender, it is a Female nakshatra. Swati
represents the female aspect of its planetary ruler, Rahu. The second Pada or
Quarter of this asterism 10o00’ – 13o20’ Libra falls in Capricorn Navamsa and is
ruled by Saturn. This pada embodies the material aspect of Swati’s functioning. It is
the most rooted among the four padas and thus to an extent lacks Swati’s inherent
fragility. The concerns here are stability and material growth. It can be deemed as
selfish when it comes to personal comforts and other forms of materiality. Planets
here give a sound business sense. This nakshatra reflects High Cliffs; Places where
winds blow strongly; Agricultural land; Coral reefs; Marketplace; Business Centres;
Banks; Financial Institutions; Sport Complexes; Airports (both civil and military) etc.
The Orientation & Disposition of this nakshatra shows that it is a level nakshatra.
Falling in the heart of Libra, it has a balancing quality. It thus relays the diplomatic,
pleasing side of Rahu. It can always compromise to achieve its eventual ends. It can
be seen as a combined Venus and Rahu energy and relays the Venusian side of
Rahu’s functioning. This makes it good in most Venusian related pursuits like music.
Inauspicious Activities under this nakshatra : Not good for travel; Fierce or warlike
activities; any type of aggressive behaviour is not likely to pay off in this nakshatra.
Under the Planetary Ruler: The primarily materialistic energy of Rahu and Venus
combined gives Swati natives success in Venusian business pursuits. In its negative
aspect, natives under the heavy influence of this nakshatra can become a slave to
their desires and are guided by greed and deceit to gain their ends. Rahu has a
diplomatic nature, which is very similar to that of Venus. Rahu, like Venus, is by
nature a social planet and enjoys company. Rahu is supposed to give an artistic
temperament in much the same way as Venus, but as always with Rahu, there is a
touch of unorthodoxy involved. Remedial: Repetition of the root mantras of this
nakshatra – “Om Lam”, “Om Ksham”, “Om Am” and “Om Aam” 108 times when
Moon transits this nakshatra and in its corresponding lunar month is sure to reduce
suffering and bring enlightenment into a person’s life. There are Examples like
Amitabh Bachan, many commercial king pins, Nelson Rockefeller has his Moon
placed in Swati and Mark Twain, the famous author and social commentator, was
born with his Ascendant, Mercury and Saturn in Swati.
Retrograde Saturn and unfulfilled ambitions
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, December 2006

Retrograde Saturn in a chart, regardless of where one finds it, always

represents the neglect of responsibilities in the past or previous life.
With a retrograde Saturn, the native comes into the current life, with a
tendency to carry forward the same goals that he had left unfinished in
the previous life as not fulfilled.

SATURN can be one’s benefactor or burden of woe depending

completely on the ways in which a person builds his structure on a firm
foundation. The realization of the goals may be in distant future. It is
what one does towards reaching that reality from the current
“situation now” braving through odds.

Retrograde Saturn in a chart, regardless of where one finds it, always

represents the neglect if responsibilities in the past or previous life. In
many ways it indicates that the native must be more honest with
himself initially, since there was avoidance of self-awareness and
honestly. With a retrograde Saturn, the native comes into the current
life, with a tendency to carry forward the same goals that he had left
unfinished in the previous life as not fulfilled. Therefore the goals will
be identical even in the present, clothed in different garbs and
situations. This only shows that the individual in the previous life-span
did not grow to a crystalised norm. The responsibilities ignored or
avoided in the past are the clear indicators with the quality of Sign in
which the Saturn is posited in retrogression in the current life.

Saturn in retrogression in the Sign Leo shows that the native avoided
responsibility of leadership. Had it been Sign Cancer, the feeling and
those related to mind would have been ignored by the native.

Effects of Saturn’s retrogression in various houses:

Ascendant: Retrograde Saturn in the 1st house shows that the

individual did not develop flexibility in the previous life and set his own
ways on the basis of his own ways on the basis of his personal opinion.
It may be borne in mind that even the Sign in which retrograde Saturn
is posited has to have a telling effect on the native. The native will
have problems with ego and thereby the individual would not have
developed a good character and personality. The native will have
tendency to be sober, serious and contemplative. He has to be
cautious and develop flexibility to adjust in different situations.

2nd House: Saturn in retrogression posited in the 2nd house reflects

that the native in the past life was highly materialistic, emphasizing
solely on possession on self-centred attitude having no regard for the
material aspect of others. Despite denials, limitations and
disappointment, retrograde Saturn in the 2nd will enable the native to
manage and set side sizeable earning by way of accumulation. The
exertion undergone by the native would be remarkable.

3rd House: There was undoubtedly an avoidance of responsibility

concerning brothers and sisters. The native’s mental attitude would
have been wanting, since he would not have made effort for self-
development and communicating with others. The current life, in all
possibility, will be marked by consistent need on the part of these
family members concerning the 3rd house. The native will accept the
responsibility, whether he is able to execute or not.

4th House: The failure would have been related to mother, education,
residence etc. The native would have neglected or abused human
feelings. Regardless of the effort required, the individual should
establish proper home facilities and create a constructive atmosphere
at home and surroundings.

5th House: in this position, Saturn in retrogression will speak of ill-will

with children and lack of purva-punya bhagya. The native’s natural
creative ability would have been impaired by negligence or other
factors. He would have been self-centred. There is a possibility for
denial of children, with a rare chance of limited progeny and that too
such a child can be differently abled. Such a native should cultivate the
habit to be very good to young folks.

6th House: Presence of retrograde Saturn in the 6th will make the
native to shirk responsibility and moreover he would have earned the
displeasure of the public, due to his negligence. He would remain
aloof, like a lonely goat. Selfless service to mankind, without expecting
‘pat on the back’ for the job will done, would bring him a positive gain.
Patience and understanding will be added advantage, along with wise
use of good health.

7th House: Partnership in matrimony or in business would have gone

hay wire by lack of faith in each other. Carnal and material desire left
in doldrums can force a person to carry forward the retrogression of
Saturn in the 7th in the following birth. To reverse these ill effects in
the current life will definitely be an uphill task, but that is the only
alternative available for the native to negotiate through.

8th House: A neglected pursuit of metaphysical teaching, higher truth

learning, astrology and so forth, and also having gained these,
misused the knowledge would have resulted in Saturn occupying the
8th house in retrogression affecting the nature of life.

The native will have to make a true search for the truth, adhere
metaphysical principles in daily walk of life, and be a friend in need. He
should lend a helping hand in job sectors. All these will mitigate the
current status of the planet Saturn.

9th House: The philosophy of life had been left in the lurch, while
masquerading in the previous life with scant respect for dharma, leave
alone karma. His dogmatic approach towards religion and philosophy
could have taken the wrath and resulted in religious persecution
mounting to violence and cruelty.

Abuse of any knowledge is detrimental in the current life as well as the

life to follow as per the oft quote ’Janmanthara krutham Papam……’
Therefore the native will have to be on guard and seek true knowledge
for imparting to others with utmost faith in the well being of the
fellowmen.

10th House : Saturn in retrogression in the 10th house reveals the

native’s approach to the job content and execution, which would be far
from satisfaction, as per the standards of the day. A cold shoulder
approach for job, employer and environment could de-stabilize the set
up. Such a hand in an establishment is like a termite in a timber yard.

The native will have to be extra cautious while executing any job. He
has to take others into confidence; trouble many emanate from the
trusted quarters in any walk of life, particularly in profession or job.

11th House : The house of gain is again an area, where conflict is easy
to spring forth, even from most unexpected quarters. Negation of
lawful gains will bring in wrath. Such natives may have to work
overtime with no emoluments to compensate the shortfall. He may
face humiliation at the hands of superiors.

12th House: Saturn in the 12th is not bad, especially for a person who
live beyond 60. The final departure can be very comfortable and the
retrogression adds to this quality. As the native would not have taken
care of Karma aspect of life of others around, there is possibility of
that being affected in the native’s case.

These are characters that opt out of the way to help on humanitarian
grounds, even when others hesitate to go near the site. They even
help scavenge dead carcass for the general welfare.
No need to dread Saturn’s transits always!
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, November 2006

As the planet of responsibility, Saturn imposes its burdens on an individual, so that

he understands the importance of his own needs. By meeting his tasks to the best of
his abilities, an individual gives form to his own self worth. While Saturn has so often
been thought of as the planet of restrictions, it is actually a planet of great freedom.

THE tendency to give every Saturn transit a fateful interpretation is completely

unfounded; as many Saturn transits are harmless and at times beneficial. The
transits of Saturn over its own radical position, or in opposition or square to this
position, usually correspond to developmental crises, signifying the end of one phase
and the beginning of a new one, which in general takes a duration of roughly seven
year periods, which however, do not necessarily have to be connected with Saturn’s
transit over the Sun’s position or over planet clusters in one Sign as well. Saturn
transits can only then be termed critical, when Saturn is moving very slowly or is
stationary or posited in a constellation making a mutual exchange with other critical
constellation.

Given below are the effects of transits Saturn crossing the natal positions of
a few planets, from reports sent to us for research:

* Transit Saturn crossing radical Sun

- Latter part of childhood remaining unhappy.

* Transit Saturn crossing radical Venus

- Separation from loved ones.

* Transit Saturn crossing radical Moon (sade-sati)

-Death of grandparents, bleak home, poverty

* Transit Saturn squaring radical Moon

- unsuccessful attempts at getting ahead, uncertain circumstances, deceit and loss of
money through partners in business, staying away from home.

* Transit Saturn squaring radical Saturn

- Futile efforts, many obstacles, lack of income.

* Transit Saturn crossing radical Mars.

- deterioration and subsequent destruction of domestic life, despondent and lonely
member of household, taking over of great obligations. After surviving the hard
times,
creation of own respectable home.

* Transit Saturn squaring radical Sun posited in the 10th house.

- Unemployment, family worries and illness.

* Transit Saturn conjuncting (in the same constellation) the radical position of
Jupiter.
- Serious conflicts at the work-front.

In general, there are always echoes of the past events or situations, when Saturn
moves out of a Sign. Reviewing past mistakes allows us to handle the future more
effectively. Taken in the negative sense, Saturn transits may seem to bring setbacks,
disappointments, trials etc. But, taken in the positive sense, Saturn’s transit induces
slow re-assessment of the self and objectives. New responsibilities are also thrust
upon people, which will bring both happiness and very hard labour.

Saturn and ‘the Now’

The sense of containment that Saturn affords is not a restriction at all, but it merely
teaches an individual how to mould himself in the ways, which have the most
meaning, Saturn is the teacher, who possesses the greatest secrets of the universe,
if one has the willingness to learn. What one does each day is more important that
what one dreams about doing in the future. The pure essence of Saturn speaks of
the reality and ‘the Now’ (today).

The delays associated with Saturn slow down an individual, so that instead of racing
through time meaninglessly, he can learn how to fill every moment with the form
and substance that will create greater meaning in life. The slow plodding nature of
Saturn’s purpose is always surefooted and steady. This planet’s energies help to
effectively un-earth a person to his current reality.

Saturn can be one’s benefactor, or one’s burden of woe, depending completely upon
the ways in which a person builds his structure. While the realization of goals may be
well in the future, it is what one does towards reaching them in “The Now” creates
reality. For many, Saturn is the taskmaster. But, he who lives in “The Now” is always
the master of the task! During Sade-sati and Ashtama Sani also, there are instances
of favourable results. For example, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi brought her party to power in
2004 general elections in India, while passing through Sade-sati. Agonizings do not
go in vain; after much hiccups, you will be determined to march forward with a more
purposeful tread, on a surer footing.
Planets and Political Power
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, September 2006

Raja yoga, supported by other beneficial astrological factors, confers great political
power (even amounting to despotism) on a native. Strength of the Yogakaraka and
Saturn helps a lot in this respect. The native invariable loses power either by loss of
life or being overthrown, during the period of maraka.

ASTROLOGY suggests that a nation chooses the sort of government or leader it

needs in consistent with its national Karma. History does reveal several obscure
people suddenly finding themselves wielding power as dictators, presidents and
rulers, and also losing power with astonishing abruptness. Political pandits have no
rational explanation for such happenings while according to astrology, creative or
destructive political careers depend upon certain Raja Yogas and Arishta Yogas.
Periods of crisis coincide with certain directional influences.

Here, the native assumed

political power as soon as Saturn’s Dasa commenced. As lord of the 4th, Saturn is in
the 9th aspected by Sun, the lord of the 10th. Sun’s aspect on Saturn has
contributed to the strength of Saturn as Yogakaraka. Saturn, the lord of the 4th has
Parivartana with the Moon, the lord of the 9th. Consistent with the nature of the
disposition of Saturn and the Sun, representing the people and aristocracy
respectively the native had no soft corner for the rich and the privileged. As soon as
he took over the control of his country, monarchy and corruptive political parties
made their exit. Totalitarian techniques were of course employed. His loss of power
was due to his own death in Saturn-Rahu period. Rahu as the sub-lord in a maraka
place, killed him.
Is that of a person who, as a minister, wielded considerable influence on the
rulers.Yogakaraka Mars and the Sun, who is neechabhanga aspecting the 10th, and
the 10th from Chandra Lagna being occupied by two benefics, conferred Raja Yoga
during the Dasa of Mars. The fagend of Rahu Bhukti in Rahu Dasa saw the native out
of power. Mark the situation of Rahu in a maraka place aspected both by Mars and
Saturn. Mars as Yogakaraka enabled Rahu to sustain the Raja Yoga for some time
but Saturn as a maraka, dealt a death-blow to the native. He lost power and was
condemned and shot as a war criminal.

Is that of a great leader, who fought for the independence of his country from
foreign rule and who, thanks to the stationing of Mars in the 7th, became a dictator,
grabbed the political power and was ultimately over-thrown. Again in this case, the
native began to taste the fruits of power with the commencement of Saturn’s dasa.
Lord of the Ascendant, Saturn aspected by yogakaraka Venus and Mercury, and
occupying the constellation of the Yogakaraka Venus in conjunction with Jupiter (lord
of the 2nd and the 11th), conferred Raja Yoga, which was effectively enjoyed till the
end of Rahu’s sub-period, when he was deposed.

No dictator in any country wielding absolute power, has ever cared for the common
people his country. For a dictator, absolute power is the only criterion.
Are you Fortunate?
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, September 2006

A well-formed Fate line, without breaks or cross, is much desired for a fortunate life.
Similarly, the 9th house of fortune, the planet posited therein and the 9th lord keep
a control over our fortune.

Fate line and Fortune

Without the Fate line in human hands, nobody can get easy success in any matter in
life. While explaining about the Fate line, the palmists pointed out that the clear line
should reach up to any mount i.e. Jupiter, Saturn, Sun or Mercury mount, without
any break or cross etc. so that the person can get positive result in this respect.
Palmists like Benham & Cheiro were of the view that breakage of Fate line which is
vertically drawn may not be able to give successful result, whereas it may delay or
harass the native during the period, when this breakage or cross will be prominent.
Most of the astrologers and palmists think that only one Fate line is sufficient to build
a successful and smooth career, whereas maximum or many Fate lines create
trouble or change the human fate off and on, by which the native may face
multifarious difficulties during their youth. There will be no difficulty to get reputation
or public honour, if the clear and straight Fate line proceeds towards the mount of
Apollo or Sun. Financial stability will be sound as and when the Fate line will reach
the mount of Jupiter. Luck may be favourable, for those with clear Fate line reaching
the well-formed mount of Saturn. New Venture in business will be successful for
those with the Fate line running upto the mount of Mercury.

Also find out wherefrom the Fate line is rising i.e., from base of the mount of Luna or
Moon. Native will get successful result by dint of his own caliber, if the Fate line
comes from the base. Others will facilitate the native to build the career, if the Fate
line rises from the mount of Luna and Moon.

Ninth house and Fortune.

In a Rasi chart, the Ninth house from the birth Sign or Lagna (Ascendant) is the
indicator of fate. The native will be lucky, if the Bhagyabhava-karaka (Jupiter or
Venus) is well posited in the 9th house. If the lord of the 9th house is located in
Trine (5, 9) or in Quadrant (1, 4, 7 or 10) with sufficient strength, then there will be
no doubt about his luck. A school of astrologers pointed out that Venus or Jupiter’s
location in the 5th house indicates bright future. For example, a native born in
Scorpio Lagna may be lucky, if the lord of the 9th, Moon, is posited in Pisces (fifth
house) and the lord of the fifth (Jupiter) is placed in exaltation in the 9th house in
Cancer. This is called Parivartana yoga or exchange of houses between two planets.
In some notable scripts, it is said to be Jeeva yoga. Rabindra Nath Tagore, an
eminent poet from Bengal, had Jeeva yoga or Parivartana yoga in his natal chart. He
was born in Pisces Sign and ascendant, along with Moon in the lagna and Jupiter in
exaltation in Cancer in the fifth house. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature.

If the 9th lord is posited in a dusthana (6, 8 or 12), then the fruitful results will be
blocked. Another ground may be noted for bad luck or ill fate, if Kalasarpa yoga is
found in the Rasi chart of the native. Kalasarpa yoga is nothing but blockage of the
effects of other major seven planets is one side of Rahu and Ketu in the Zodiac.

Devaguru Brihaspati or Jupiter is the chief governor of luck. Bhagya karta or lord of
fate is Venus. For Aries Lagna and Cancer lagna, good placement of Jupiter (the 9th
lord) will ensure good luck in life. Sometimes due to the aspect of benefic planets in
the house 9 or 3, malefic effects of unfavorable planets will be diminished
instantaneously. The major, sub or sub-sub periods of the 9th lord also brings luck.
Favourable transits of the 9th lord also add to the prospects.

Effects of various planets occupying the 9th house:

Sun – Public honour, inheritance of paternal property

Venus – Luck through women, comforts.
Moon – Favoured by women folk, interest in luxury items.
Mercury – Success in business
Mars – Martial capacity
Rahu – Help from foreign lands
Saturn (weak) – Obstacles.
Even malefics can do good…….
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)
Article published in Starteller, August 2006

All the vedic sages have unanimously declared that the houses 6, 8 and 12 counted
from lagna or from any Bhava are detrimental to lagna or that Bhava. So 6, 8 or 12
are said to be unlucky houses and indeed evil.

Not only the lords of the houses become adverse, but also the planets posited in
these houses are still worse. Occupants are deemed to be stronger than the owners.
Therefore, the planets occupying 6, 8 and 12 must be worse than the lords of the
houses.

When the lords of the houses and also the planets deposited in those houses are
considered to be undesirable, then normally one will expect that the lords of these
houses and the planets occupying the above said houses must be causing untold
miseries. But, actually, in practice, it was found that under certain circumstances
these planets owning these evil houses and also occupying such houses cause very
favourable results, which are unexpected and it is a ‘Vipareeta’ to normal
expectation. Actually, when we enjoy Raja Yoga, it is ‘Vipareeta; and so it is termed
as ‘Vipareeta Raja Yoga’. 6th house indicates disease, debt, difficulty and dispute;
8th houses denotes distress, difficulty, danger, drowning etc., and 12th house shows
loss, swindling, secret inimical activity, depression etc. Therefore nobody would like
to have any of the matters signified by these three houses.

Kalidas has mentioned in his book “Uttara Kalamrita” – (Kanda 4 sloka 22) the
disposition of planets which cause Vipareeta Raja Yoga, “ if the lords of the houses 6,
8 and 12 occupy either jointly or individual the houses 6, 8 and 12 or if they are in
any manner connected with the houses 6 or 8 or 12 if they mutually interchange
their places, provided these planets do not have any connection with other planets
not owning 6 or 8 or 12, then the person will be a king and he will command much
wealth. He will establish a good name and enjoy his life.”

Loss to the opponent

One may ask “How can the lords of houses 6 and 8 in mutual exchange cause
‘Vipareeta Raja Yoga?’

If lagna represents the person, then the 7th house stands for the opponent. The 6th
house is 12th to the 7th, i.e. ‘Vraya’ house, and the 8th house will be the second to
the 7th. It is a well known fact that an interchange between the lords of the houses
2nd and 12 bring loss of wealth, loss of member in the family, loss of eye sight and
defective speech etc. Therefore, when the opponent loses, the native gains. That is
why the interchange between the lords of 6 and 8 bring about beneficial results to
the native, such as success in competitions and litigation winning in elections etc.

Case – Study

In my friend’s horoscope, the lords of houses 6 and 8 were in mutual exchange and
he had been running the conjoined period of these two planets. My friend did not
work hard for a victory in the election. But he had an opponent, who spent most
extravagantly. His friends were much benefited monetarily, But they were not true to
him. Actually they voted for my friend accepting money from his opponents and my
friend had a thumping win. Thus if the lords of 6 and 8 are mutually exchanged, due
to the secret inimical activity, the opponent will lose and the native will gain.

Vipareet Raja Yoga is caused by any one of the following planetary

dispositions:

· Lord of the 8th occupying the 12th or 6th

· Lord of the 6th being placed in the 8th or 12th.
· Lord of the 12th being posited in the 8th or 6th.
· Lord of 6, 8 and 12 being associated in any way, by mutual exchange of places,
mutual aspect or conjunction and these lords are at the same time free from such
relation with other planets.

Mutual exchange of natural benefics owning the houses 6 and 8 brings about a
transaction wherein the native is benefited; whereas he, with whom he transacted,
does not gain equally. Vipareeta Raja Yoga is really enjoyed, only when the lords of 6
and 8 happen to be malefics by nature.

Mutual Exchanges

This rule will not apply to Capricorn lagna borns, as the lord of the 6th is Mercury
and the lord of the 8th is Sun. Mercury and Sun can never occupy Gemini and Leo,
causing mutual exchange, i.e. Parivartana Yoga. Mutual exchange between the star-
lords of the 6th lord and the 8th lord also cause Parivartana yoga. Even in such
Yogas, natural benefics 1 mutually exchanged between the houses 6 and 8 are not
as harmful to the opponent as natural malefics 2 owning the houses 6 and 8
interchange. No doubt benefics in 6,7 and 8 cause Lagnadhiyoga to the native and
mutual exchange of natural benefics owning houses 6 and 8 brings about a
transaction where in the native is benefited; whereas he, with whom he transacted,
does not gain equally.

Period of the lords of 6 and 8:

Supposing a person purchases a property during Jupiter Dasa, Venus Bhukti, (lords 6
and 8 for Vrishaba Lagnas); then this person purchases it at a cost lower than the
market rate; whereas the seller loses to some extent. Anyhow he is capable of
disposing even an unsalable property during that period. Also it may be noticed in a
few business men’s charts that the husband transfers certain share and also gives
gift to his wife, when the wife runs a period (dasa and bhukti) conjointly ruled by the
lords of 6 and 8. It is also likely that those who run the joint period of the lords of 6
and 8, borrow money without any proper record and the person who lent the money
suddenly passes away thereby the native who runs the period of lord 6 and 8 is not
honest temporarily and he appropriates the amount.

Exchange of Natural Benefics

The mutual exchange between the lord of 12 with either the lord of 8 or 6 will be
advantageous to the native, only when they happen to be natural benefics. Mutual
exchange between natural benefics cannot do harm to the opponent and also much
good to the native. Because, if the 6th lord is a benefics and if it occupies the second
house or if the 2nd lord occupies the 6th house, the natives financial position will
improve by borrowing or service. Therefore, benefics owning the houses 8 and 12
indicate that they own the houses 2 and 6 to the opponent. Therefore, benefics
cannot bring either loss or throw any obstacles to the opponent. Hence the native
cannot gain much.

This Vipareeta Raja Yoga is really enjoyed, only when the lords of 6 and 8 happen to
be malefics by nature. Indeed the period may cause an injury to the person and he
may suffer from disease, yet monetarily it will do good to him. Or in any competitive
examination or election, he will come out successful. This is purely applicable to
those who are born in Mithuna Lagna, Kanya Lagna, Mesha Lagna and Vrischika
Lagna.

Mutual exchange between the lords of 6 and 12 will be advantageous to younger

brother, mother and father. Interchange between the lords of 8 and 12 will be
advantageous to mother, wife and elder brother. Interchange between lords of 6 and
8 will be advantageous to children.

Notes:
1. Natural Benefics: Jupiter, Venus, Waxing Moon, Unafflicted Mercury.

2. Natural Malefics : Saturn, Mars, Sun, Waning Moon, Afflicted Mercury

Which planets favour your travel abroad?
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Article published in Starteller, July 2006

Overseas journey is indicated by the sub-lord of the 12th cusp. The 12th cusp has to
be related to the 3rd and the 9th cusps; also the 12th house itself should have good
positional strength.

Today, every individual looks forward to a foreign assignment. As per the Parasara
system, the houses 3, 9 and 12 signify travel. My research has shown that the 8th
house also plays a very important role in deciding travel abroad. The 8th house, is
the 11th from the 10th. If we go into the scriptures of the past, associations of the
8th house and travel abroad are always signified as ‘Kala Pani’, ‘ Desh Nikala’ or to
be deported across the ocean. i.e. at that time, it meant that being displaced from
the place where you are born and wandering in foreign lands was not a very happy
situation, which was related to the value systems. The 8th house and its association
with other houses like the 4th (for leaving family behind) and the 7th (for being
separated from wife) need to be analysed.

For deciphering the Astro indicators for foreign assignment, let us study a horoscope
as per the K.P.System.

According to the KP system, overseas journey is indicated by the sub-lord of the

12th cusp. The 12th cusp has to be related to the 3rd and the 9th cusps; also the
12th house itself should have good positional strength.

In the above chart, the sub-lord of the 12th cusp is Jupiter. He is the lord of the 3rd
and the 6th, posited in its own constellation. Therefore, the sub-lord of the 12th cusp
is a significator of the 3rd, 6th and the 1st houses. Jupiter aspects the 9th aspect.
The native, therefore, is fortunate and will go abroad.

Purpose of travel

The purpose for which he will go abroad has to be ascertained from the lord of the
6th house (i.e. 9th from the 10th house and the 11th from the 8th house). Here, this
again is Jupiter and is posited in its own star. This shows that the native will go
abroad on an assignment. The native left abroad for a job, offered by a foreign firm.

3, 9 and 12 bhavas

Sun is in its own star, in the 3rd bhava. No planet is in the constellation of Jupiter
(3rd and 6th lord), Mercury and Mars. Ketu alone is in the Sign of Mars.

No planet is in the 9th bhava. Jupiter aspects the 9th.

· 12th bhava is occupied by Moon. Rahu is in the star of Moon lord of the
12th cusp is Mercury. No planet is in the star of Mercury.

Sun, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Rahu and Moon have helped the native on his foreign
journey.

The native left for abroad on 15 January 1976. At that time, he was running Jupiter
dasa, Rahu Antara, Rahu Pratyantara and Jupiter Sookshma. Both Jupiter and Rahu
associated with 3, 9 and 12.

Transits on 15 January 1976, the day of journey.

Dasa lord Jupiter was transiting in pisces, with fortunate trine aspect to its natal
position. He is in the star of Mercury and the sub of Mars.

Antar (Bukthi) lord Rahu was in Libra conjoining with the natal Jupiter, and posited in
the star of Jupiter, in mercury sub.

The day was ruled by Jupiter. Moon was transiting in Arudra, Rahu’s star on that
day.

Who will take up the Profession of Jouirnalism

Strong dispositions of the 3rd house, its lord, its dispositor and their associations
withMercury (intellect) and Jupiter (optimism) make one inclined towards Journalism.

Journalism is akin to educational activities. The role of a journalist is to collect data,

analyze it and then put it in the right perspective for the readers. Literary inclination
and communication skills are of utmost importance.

This, is astrology, is governed by the planet Mercury, the third lord in the natural
Zodiac chart and also by Jupiter signifying enthusiasm. Relationship and strength of
these planets become therefore important, when we have to judge a native of his
entering into this field as his profession.

The 3rd house signifies books, publications, information, communication skills etc
and Mercury is the 3rd lord (lord of Gemini) of the natural zodiac. Mercury signifies
intellect. Any association (conjunction or aspect) between Mercury, 3rd house and
Gemini makes a native inclined towards reading, writing and corresponding with
others.

In the earlier days, journalism (literary skills) was mainly confined to guide the
society in the right path (moralistic). But now, the field of journalism has grown vast
and it includes social, political and business areas. The specific area of pursuance of
journalism depends upon the association of the 3rd lord.

Intelligence,
communication skills and memory power play vital roles in the
profession of journalism. Let us analyse the horoscope of a
journalist.

Mercury signifying literary skills and communicative abilities happens to be her 10th
lord and is powerfully placed in the ascendant, forming Dharma Karmadhipathi yoga
with the 9th lord Sun. The dispositor of Mercury is Jupiter, posited along with the
dispositor (Moon) of the 3rd lord Saturn. Jupiter, the dispositor of Mercury, aspects
the 3rd lord Saturn. Her columns in the Newspapers speak of here journalistic
abilities.

Prospects for Deve Gowda

Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)

Published in Starteller, April 2006

Mercury is in the 3rd house from Moon, in the house of Mars with Venus and Sun
ahead of it. Sun is hemmed in-between Mercury and Venus. This shows that he had
not been adequately supported by the people in power, during various times of his
life, more so in future. Till the end of 2006, the native will be able to maintain some
position in the party or elsewhere, but he should be careful with respect to his health
and family matters.

H.D. Deve Gowda had been the Prime Minister of India between 1996 and 1997. A
large number of diverse political outfits combined to make him the PM. He did not
have adequate strength in Parliament; the prime objective at that time was to keep
BJP out.

He shares his Cancer ascendant with Bill Clinton, Saddam Hussain, Jawahar Lal
Nehru, Indira Gandhi and V.P. Singh. This is the most conducive ascendant for
politicians, as these natives have a hard exterior, but are sympathetic, Caring and
friendly. They possess a lot of self-confidence and display the initiative and power to
outshine others. They have reliable friends as well as dangerous enemies.

Shri. Deve Gowda has completed 72 years on 18 May 2005. Let us analyse his future
prospects, as per the Bhrigu Nadi techniques.

Methodology in Bhrigu Nadi System

In Bhrigu Nadi system, the methodology to be followed in analyzing the events are
(i) there is no concept of ascendant; (ii) the horoscope should be drawn with Aries as
No. 1 i.e. the first Sign;
(iii) Importance is given to the rotation of Jupiter; (iv) Jupiter stays in each Sign for
a period of approximately 12 years.

Example: Jupiter in a native’s horoscope is in Aries. Therefore, for all practical

purposes, we consider Jupiter to be in Aries for a period of 12 years and its
conjunction/opposition etc. with other planets will determine the broad events in the
first 12 years for the native. We only take the 7th aspect into consideration and no
other aspect, which is again a deviation to be remembered. Great importance is
given to (a) the Sign in which the planet is posited; (b) the conjunction of the
planets (c) the planet which leads in the conjunction in terms of its degrees; (d)
planets which are in the 12th house of a particular planet; (e) planets which are in
the next house of the Sign in which a particular planet is placed; and (f) planets
which are opposite to the concerned planet. The planet will imbibe the quality of the
planets, of which it is a Dispositor. If Saturn is a dispositor of Jupiter and Mercury, it
will change its character accordingly and give ascribed results.

Therefore, for each 12 years, the ascendant would be the Sign where Jupiter is
placed governing the events of those 12 years, and then for the next 12 years it will
be rotated in the next house, which will govern the events for the next 12 years and
conforms to the indications of the prime placement.

What is in store for Deve Gowda?

Jupiter, if rotated as per the Bhrigu Nadi System, was in Capricorn till the age of 72.
Saturn, the Dispositor of Jupiter, is in its own house, natally. It shows, on an
average, a strong position till he completed 72 years. Currently, Jupiter, in its 7th
round (ages 72 to 84) is in Aquarius. The Dispositor Saturn now occupies the 12th
from the rotating Jupiter, denoting destruction. Because it is posited in its own
house, it will maintain its magnetism.

In the natal chart, since Rahu is behind Moon in terms of degrees, he had been able
to analyse the situations with serene mind. Mercury is in the 3rd house from Moon,
in the house of Mars with Venus and Sun ahead of it. Sun is hemmed in-between
Mercury and Venus, (Venus posited at 11 degrees is ahead of Sun at 4 degrees).
This shows that he had not been adequately supported by the people in power,
during various times of his life, more so in future.

The 5th house from the 72nd year onwards (rotating Jupiter in Aquarius taken as the
ascendant) is denoted by Gemini, whose lord is Mercury, occupying the house of
Mars natally. The Dispositor Mars is posited with powerful planets like Jupiter and
Ketu in Leo natally; so it shows success for the son to attain power. Mars and Jupiter
along with Ketu getting aspected by Moon and Rahu show mental tensions, travels
and problems in the family. In the natal Rasi chart also, the 5th house is governed
by Mars.

Taking the present transits into consideration as per the Bhrigu Nadi System, it is
seen that till the end of 2006 the native will be able to maintain some position in the
party or elsewhere, but he should be careful with respect to his health and family
matters. Issues regarding wealth or integrity need special attention from February
2007 onwards, more so from June 2007.

Predictive Techniques of Bhrigu Nadi

Bhrigu Nadi is a classical technique if Bhrigu Maharishi. It is an important limb of

Vedic astrology. It follows a different methodology, quite distinct from the Parasara
system.
In Bhrigu Nadi system, the methodology to be followed in analyzing the events are
(i)there is no concept of ascendant; (ii) the horoscope should be drawn with Aries as
No. 1 i.e. the first Sign; (iii) importance is given to the rotation of Jupiter; (iv)

Political future of Rahul Gandhi
Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)
Published in Starteller, January 2006

Evaluation through Bhrigu technique

For Rahul Gandhi, the horoscope clearly indicates prestigious position, but only after
hard work and skillful planning. The position of power and authority will arrive in the
year 2008, but caution should be exercised in terms of avoiding accidents.

The technique of prediction adopted here is that of the Bhrigu Nadi, where the
importance is given to the Rotation of Jupiter and other aspects related to the star
lord, sub-lord and their impact on the other planets. Further, in this predictive
technique, the current transit, as well as the Progressed chart are intermingled,
which form the basis of the prediction. Jupiter, as per Bhrigu system, is construed to
be in a Sign for 12 years and that Sign is taken as the ascendant. The transitory
position will be super-imposed.

Significance of the Birth-star

The Moon, in the case of Shri Rahul Gandhi, falls in the nakshtra of Jyeshta.
Jyeshta’means ‘the eldest’. It also refers to an umbrella, which gives protection. The
native possesses, “a sense of arriving or becoming”. The energies of those born in
this nakshtra are channelized in such a way that their activities are perceived by
others in the right perspective. They usually mature quickly, both physically and
mentally. They have a streak of vindictive tendency. They are protective towards the
weak, helpless and the under-privileged. Depression can set in, when the
circumstances do not allow constant activity of some kind. Mercury is the planetary
ruler of this nakshrta and hence all the energies are focused in the mind (intellect).
Such people are born to take care of the masses.

Bhrigu technique of Rotated Jupiter

Rahul Gandhi has completed his 35th year and entered the 36th. During the period
of 36 to 48, the Rotated Jupiter will be in Capricorn. It received the aspects of the
natal Venus from the second house. Rotated Jupiter occupying the house of Saturn
becomes intrinsically weak to act and, therefore, it derives strength from the natal
Venus, which is aspecting it. The aspect of Venus of Capricorn and the Rotated
Jupiter will be the key factors during this 12 year period. It, therefore, shows that
the noticed will be able to understand politics and do all that is required to be
successful. The dispositor of the Rotated Jupiter is Saturn (the planet signifying
democracy, politics etc), which is in the house of Mars natally, in debilitation , but
gets strength from Mercury next to it in Taurus. In the natal chart, Saturn derives
major strength from Rahu, which is posited in the 11th (Aquarius) from it. Mercury in
front of the natal Saturn, will make the native plan meticulously and Rahu in the
11th from the natal Saturn will give the required execution skills. So he will be able
to, not only plan things meticulously, but also executed and think in a big way.

Moon and Mercury

As per the Bhirgu Nadi techniques, Moon is posited in the 11th from the Rotated
Jupiter. Transit Jupiter is behind the natal Moon, in Libra. This shows help from this
mother. Natal Moon also placed in the 7th from Mercury as per my research, Mercury
becomes very strong as Moon always helps Mercury, though the vice-versa may not
be true. Therefore, Mercury gets strength from Moon.

Political Prospects

The years 36 and 37, as per the Nadi system, would be the period where the native
would plan his future course of action. He will also have problems in dealing with
people around, but would be able to manage issues successfully. The year 37-38
would be the period, when he has to deal with negative forces and situations where
he would, by his intellect and planning, be successful.

In the years 38 and 39, the native will be able to achieve his objectives and would be
at the peak of his career in the 40th year. He will be definitely saddled in an
extremely comfortable position by the age of 39-40.

Venus, the Divine Minister for Marriage

Dr. Shanker Adawal (Jyotishaacharya, PHD, MBA)
Published in Starteller, November 2005

Venus facilitates the marital harmony. Venus associated with Saturn, Mars or Rahu
brings forth unconventional marriage. Mars and Venus exchanging their relative
positions in the horoscopes of the couple ensure long-lasting loving relationship.

Venus occupies supreme position in predicting one’s marital prospects, being the lord
of the 2nd and the 7th houses of the Zodiac; thus it holds the portfolio of marriage.
The degree of harmony in marriage can be gauged on the basis of its strength
(exaltation/debilitation) coupled with the Digbala. Strength and disposition of Venus
corresponds to the vitality of the native. It also determines the time of marriage.

Astro-pointers for Unconventional (inter-caste) love marriage

1. Association between the houses 5 and 7, and their lords.

2. Weak 9th house and the 5th house associated with Moon, Mars, Venus or Rahu.

3. Venus associated with Saturn, Mars or Rahu, and also the 7th lord occupying the
5th.

4. Affliction to Jupiter, the 7th lord remaining stronger than the ascendant lord and
the 9th house occupied by Saturn, Mars and Rahu indicate inter-caste marriage.
5. Association of the 7th lord with Mars, Rahu or Venus.

6. Malefics afflicting the houses 7th and 12 and also their lords.

7. 5th house associated with weak Moon.

This nakshatra reflects High Cliffs; Places where
winds blow strongly; Agricultural land; Coral reefs; Marketplace; Business Centres;
