Overview 5

1 Overview
1.1 Introduction
In addition to the various measurement data import filters supported in Actix Radioplan
(see [R-Meas]), there is also a generic and customizable measurement import filter called
Radiopan Generic Measurement Import. This software plugin to the Actix Radioplan
application is described in the present document.

Further information on Actix Radioplan and specifically on working with measurements in

Actix Radioplan (Measurement Module) is available in [R-UG] and [R-Meas], respectively.

1.2 Installation
In the following, %ApplicationPath% denotes the path where the Actix Radioplan
application is installed (refer to [R-Admin] for more information).
The Radiopan Generic Measurement Import plugin is a DLL in the
%ApplicationPath%\plugins\importresults directory, called RadioplanGeneric.dll .
It can be customized by the corresponding radioplangeneric.ini file, which is located in
the %ApplicationPath%\configuration\plugins\importresults directory of the Actix
Radioplan installation.
However, under Windows Vista, the configuration file is located in the
%APPDATA%\configuration\plugins\rnpintegration\ directory (refer to [R-Admin]).

1.3 Outline of this User Guide

Following this introductory chapter, the configuration during the import as well as the
requirements for the measurement data will be explained in chapter 2.

2 Generic Data Import

This section describes the generic measurement data import for the radio technologies
UMTS, GSM, CDMA, and iDEN.

2.1 Measurement Data Import

Importing the measurements can be accomplished by selecting File Import
Measurements. Select the Radioplan Generic Format as shown in the Fig. 2-1.

Fig. 2-1 Import measurement dialog

By clicking OK, the Measurement Data Import dialog is opened, Fig. 2-2.
Here the corresponding measurement file(s) have to be selected (from a single folder).
This dialog is resizable such that it can be adjusted to view as many measurement files as
possible.
For multiple file selection the <Shift> and <Ctrl> keys can be used which is useful if
several consecutive measurement files were recorded during a drive test.

The various parameters of the Measurement Data Import dialog in Fig. 2-2 are explained
in Table 2-1.

Parameter

Description

Unit

Map Cell Names from

SC / PN / BSIC(CC)
ARFCN

If this checkbox is selected, the measured scrambling

code IDs (for UMTS measurements), Pseudo Noise IDs
(for CDMA measurements), or ARFCN/BSIC (for GSM
measurements) are exchanged by their associated cell
IDs according to the network configuration during
import.

If the network setup of the measured network is

known, this feature should be active; otherwise not.
Restrict Data Import
to Simulation Area

If this checkbox is selected, only measurement data

lying inside the simulation area will be imported.

This option is useful to e.g. eliminate invalid data that

is not connected to any GPS position data.
Offset X / Y

An optional offset in Cartesian x/y coordinates that all

measurement points are corrected by during the import
process.

Cable Loss

The cable loss correction to be considered during

measurement data import.

dB

Use Pre-Binning

This option can be used to pre-bin the measurement

data.

Tthis can be useful for saving memory if the amount of

measurement data is very large.
Bin Size

If the pre-binning option is selected then the bin size

can be given in this field.

Transform from
WGS84 -> Projection

This option should be selected if the measurement

positions were determined using the WGS84 reference
ellipsoid.

This is the case for most GPS receivers. The measured

WGS84 positions are then automatically converted into
the chosen projection coordinate system of the project
that they are imported into.
Transform from
Current Display
Coordinates ->
Projection

Some measurement systems use a reference ellipsoid

other than the one of WGS84 for positioning. In this
case, the user should temporarily set the respective
measurement coordinate system as display coordinate
system and then select this option for the
measurement import. The measured coordinates will
then be correctly converted into the projection
coordinate system of the project.

Result Set Title

Optionally, the name of the Result Set in the Results

tree can be specified here. If no Result Set title is
given, then the measurement filename that is imported
first is adopted as Result Set title.

2.2 Generic Text Import

In order to use the generic text import, FileFormat = 0 must have been specified in the
[General] section of the radioplangeneric.ini configuration file.
[General]
FileFormat = 0

Then the Import Specification dialog for the generic text import will appear after selecting
Open in the Measurement Data Import dialog (see Fig. 2-2).

Fig. 2-3 Measurement import speficiation dialog (from generic text)

In the Import Specification dialog, Fig. 2-3, the user can select the System Type of the
measurement data to be imported: either UMTS, CDMA, GSM, or iDEN. The header
specification for the measurement data can be defined in the fields below. The following
fields for the header can be defined:

Longitude (in decimal degree format where positive numbers are North)

Latitude (in decimal degree format where positive numbers are East)

CellName (if the cell name is available then this can be used for assigning the
measurements instead of SC/PN/BSIC etc.)

BSIC

SC or PN or ARFCN

RSCP or EC or RXLEV

EcIo or C/I

Generic Data Import 11

The field separators in the measurement data can also be chosen. The possibilities include:
Tabstop, Semicolon, Comma, and Space.
In order to help with setting the header specifications and the field separators, a sample of
the measurement data is given at the bottom of the dialog.

2.3 Generic Text Format - Location Based

If the measurement files have several different headers then it is possible to define up to
ten different header specifications for each parameter.
This can be set by the FileFormat parameter in the [General] section of the
radioplangeneric.ini configuration file.
For the UMTS text format set FileFormat = 3,
for the GSM text format set FileFormat = 4,
for CDMA text format then set FileFormat = 5, and
for iDEN text format then set FileFormat = 6 .
Here is an example of the radioplangeneric.ini file with two header definitions for each
format:
